Felt altogether too low-stakes, and then ultimately the story turns out… open-ended? Except we know the cells will win, so it really is low-stakes. I presume this series is targeted at children old enough to catch the biology science-dumps (and boy, are there a lot of those) but young enough that they don't notice the flat writing.
