That little bullfrog deserves the world.
Amazing show only wish there was more
This is literally everything I love about ubisoft games and animation, plus the music is by Oscillian... masterpeice!!!
oh brother, what a show (spoilers galore)
The video game references were cool to see, and the hot furries were good. The action scenes and the skittles squad love plot were kinda funny when they didn't really take themselves too seriously (at times).
Now as for the plot - damn bruh that shit kinda booty. Some dialogue and scenes were cornier than an elote (Red's existence, Laserhawk one-liners, and the more "dramatic" Dolph x Alex scenes). The metaphor between Eden and the US was interesting thematically (Gamer Guantanamo Bay was pretty funny), but having 1. le leader of the "good guys fighting oppression... actually le bad guy?1?!" (she did rig their brains with explosives, killed revolutionists, and was a cheap set up for season 2 so i guess...) 2. the MC be in a relationship w/ civilian-killing-orchestrating Alex (and even kissing him after all that, but he shot him so lole) and 3. Ubisoft's backing, one of the most notoriously-hated video game studios (for good reason besides their C-list games), who are into environment-destroying NFTs and professionals at pink-washing gives this shit imperalist-bootlicking and minority-hating vibes once you look past the superficial facade of the progressive politics and PoC + gay main character (F*ance did ban anti-nazi and pro-Palestinian protests so I guess F*ench studio Bobbypills is just falling in line there).
Also, relatively huge plot hole in episode 5 plus speculation, being why someone on the board of directors would invite rayman to talk to Bullfrog if it was just going to get him to turn against Eden - but maybe that will be explained in the next season. Still feels like an ass-pull to get the plot moving since it wasn't explained further, but I'm assuming it was actually Sarah who told him to talk to Bullfrog given it's revealed she has something to do with the board of directors, given the Greek character/sigma (Σ) on her skull revealed at the end of episode 6 - which would just suggest that she's probably like a triple agent: resistance while benefiting Eden (kid) - Eden soldier/Supermaxx warden working for resistance (adult) - power-thirsty sadist-spider working for her own interests to usurp the council, manipulating everyone in the process (given her "council is weak and needs me at the helm" speech at the end of ep. 6). Basically a convoluted mess with Sarah and Dolph serving as a Makima-and-Denji-dynamic-at-home.
Hotline Miami had In the Face of Evil yoinked by the Thor: Ragnarok trailer and now Turbo Killer by Laserhawk -the Swede duo at Dennaton went crazy.
6/10 - there's cow girls (especially at the end of episode 3 btw), some video game references to soyface at, decent artstyle/animation, and unhinged rayman doing coke. A fun little goofy watch, that's the best this has to offer - not much more, given that outside of the goofiness to offer, the show's ideas have been executed rather half-assed and through cliche tropes (but I guess that's what a limited run of 6 episodes does).
Assassin Bullfrog was the show....
Adi Shankar knocking it out of the park as per usual. Actually using the Ubisoft properties in interesting and unique ways, including implicitly calling out ubi's abandonment of rayman.
It's incredible how he managed to turn properties from some of the blandest AAA garbage in gaming into such a unique experience.
Also to anyone making the Edgerunners comparison, did we watch the same show, cuz this is nothing like edgerunners outside of both being cyberpunk and "revolutiony".
It's a nice bobby pills (adult humour) twist on the usual formula, i liked it !
Bullfrog my beloved <3 I'd give you the world. If only the french were real
I would give a go for it if you are in videogames especially Ubisofts. It has a fairly good story and there are lot of easter eggs.
A rushed series trying to capitalise on how popular Edgerunners got. Ubisoft keeps making mediocre videogames, but now they decided to make mediocre serieses too!
This was not a so bad it's so good, yet it wasn't decent enough for me to enjoy. It was a waste of time.
Best episode - Episode 3 (7/10)
Worst episode - Episode 1 (4/10)

It's not a masterpiece of animation or storytelling but it gave me everything what I expected from it, I just wish first season was longer
