[8.0/10] Good episode. I like this as a means of checking in on three major characters while still giving Princess Carolyn the spotlight. This show may not have the best designs or animation, but it uses that animation in really creative ways. Interrogating both Princess Carolyn’s new challenges as a mom, and the pressure of having to “do it all” as a woman in the workplace through the use of creative sound design and colored negative images of her doing all the sundry tasks that are expected of her is a really deft way to convey the strain, repetition, and exhaustion of what she has to go through.
I also like Mr. Peanutbutter sublimating his guilt over cheating on Pickles with Diane. Him wanting to redo “Birthday Dad” (with Flea Daniels!) and overprojecting onto it is a good gag. And his efforts to avoid having to face up to his misdeeds with Pickles leading him to BoJack’s “family and friends” day and more overprojection is a good beat.
I also like Todd failing up, and inadvertently getting “Untitled Princess Carolyn Project” off the ground and greenlit. It’s a nice loony bit to make things lighter here.
And especially like how everything comes together. Princess Carolyn manages to solve Todd’s oblivious overpromising problem, Mr. PB needing a project problem, and her recutting “Birthday Dad” to shreds to be more gender-balanced problem all at once. It’s some nice clockwork storytelling, and shows PC’s talents.
There’s also a really sweet and honest note to end on. PC admitting that this is harder than she thought, and that she’s not feeling like she thought she would, only to get reassurance from Vanessa Gecko of all people is a really nice beat. The metaphor for thinking of her new baby as her new client puts it into terms PC can relate to. And her figuring out how to make her daughter stop crying, and payoff the “the baby still doesn't have a name” bit all at once is outstanding.
Overall, this is a good start to the new season for the non-BoJack part of the cast, and a great P.C. episode to be sure.
A great episode! It surely is difficult being a parent nowadays, you gotta balance everything in your life to make sure your child is safe. Isn’t that right, Ruthie?
This episode put me off of having children :scream:
SCORE: 8/10
Of course a newborn is a nightmare, and given Princess Carolyn's life it was going to be hell. And with the Princess Carolyn ghost repeating their tasks, that's a very creative way to show it.
By the way "Untitled Princess Carolyn Project", best baby name ever.
Mr Peanutbutter's guilt trip is already annoying.
Like the new style of the intro.
Bojack Horseman has become successful at making the audience feel what the characters are feeling and this episode is no exception.
Isn't that right, Ruthie ?
