7.5/10. The main story featuring Gene and Courtney wasn't anything especially novel or interesting until the end. Courtney's never been my favorite recurring character, and Gene tends to work best in smaller doses, so planting them in a standard work/romance story, even with a wacky Bob's Burgers twist, didn't do much for me. Sure, the competition with Ms. LaBonz and the ever-present fun of Will Forte's delivery helped, but it was a perfectly fine if fairly inert tale up until Gene's song. The song was sweet and weird in the true spirit of the show, and lifted up what was an otherwise unremarkable effort.
But the B- and C-stories, centering around the carnation donations were both hilarious and fun. Tina's insecurities turning into a maelstrom of envelope opening, prompting help from Linda (who gets gradually more into the elementary school romances) was a lovely little Tina story. It's nice to see Louise help and have pride in her sister's slight rulebreaking side (Louise has some great sarcastic commentary throughout the episode) and the twist at the end with Jimmy Jr. was the perfect capstone to it. And Bob and Teddy's adventure in trying to find 250 carnations on short notice (replete with Bob's hilariously misguided cover stories) was the comedic gift that kept on giving. Bob trying to cover for something is always a hoot, and Teddy is nothing but laughs at all times.
All-in-all, the A-story was weak with a nice finish, but the other stories in the episode were enough fun to keep it afloat.
