[5.5/10] This one was pretty weak. Really the only redeeming quality was Bob’s weird but strangely enduring relationship with Duval. Bob stirring Duval from his resigned stupor and odd devotion to Captain Fordy was a good bit, as was Duval hiding in a pot and pretending to be spaghetti, of all things.
Otherwise, this one was just full of tepid humor. Linda baking herself with a tanning booth went nowhere. Louise’s long fingernails were maybe funny for a half-second. Tina’s scalp massage was all but laugh free. And Gene’s infatuation with a Marilyn Monroe-esque manatee dummy was bizarre enough to be charming at first, but wasn’t really enough to sustain a whole B-plot.
The threat also just seemed off-brand for Bob’s Burgers. The family getting shanghaied by an overzealous cruise director just doesn’t feel like a plot for this show, to the point that it felt like they were parodying something and I just didn’t get the reference. There’s at least a touch of setup and payoff with the oysters being the reason they convince the crew to turn around, but that’s about it in terms of positive.
Overall, this is a real low light at a time when the show was otherwise on a hot streak. But hey, they can’t all be winners.
