[8.5/10] I liked pretty much every part of this. There’s a nice progression on Linda’s side of things. Her having fun at the grocery store, taking a part time job and loving the responsibility and appreciation, and then discovering that despite corporate branding it’s just a job not a fun house or a calling is a great story. You understand why Linda wants to break out on her own a bit, why she’d feel right at home at a place like Fresh Feed (which I clocked as a Trader Joe's parody), and how people would take advantage of her kindness and leave her holding the bag and wanting to go back to her family business.
But I like Bob’s part of it just as much. There’s some good psychology to him not wanting Linda to go work at a part time job even though they’re having to strategically bounce checks, both because he doesn't want to admit that’s where the business is, but because he loves Linda and wants to work with her, not work alone. I also love the hints we get at how vital Linda is around the restaurant, from “playing the thermostat like a violin” to knowing how to work their accounts in a way that Bob just isn’t capable of.
Throw in Tina’s weird but adorable dairy aisle romance and you have a real winner. Her Cinderella-like quest to find the boy whose index finger was bitten by a turtle is hilarious and peculiar in the best Bob’s Burgers way. And her and Joshua have adorable meetcute energy, despite the fact that we never (I think?) see him again (unless he’s the ballet guy?).
On top of that, the episode is just a laugh riot. Linda’s probably my favorite character on the show, so her getting the spotlight, with her joking commentary, righteous anger, and enthusiasm for anything and everything is a real delight. Bob trying to shoo Teddy away when the power goes out is incredible. Louise has a great outing as a side character, between her shrimp ballooning efforts and her commentary and settling in before the trainwreck that is her telling Bob to “evaluate your wife.” Plus, all the quirky weirdness around the grocery story brings a steady stream of laughs.
All-in-all, this is a very funny episode that comes up with good stories for Linda, Bob, and TIna, and brings the Belcher parents back together in a really sweet and honest way. Definitely a winner.
