It had a nice pacing, but ultimately was aimless and not that interesting, just nice tense scenes to watch. There was no point to this episode at all, 0 plot
So many things that are just impossible. It didn't make any sense! Worst episode of the season.
Metalhead is a work of art.
One character, hardly no dialogue and shot in Black and White - yet it's one of the most stunning and thought-provoking things I've ever watched.
Not as terrible in execution as Arkangel but I couldn't help but burst out laughing in one of the key moments due to the stupidity of this where it should have been a moment of tension instead. I mean that this show is an anthology is a good thing but this was on par of British no-budget genre film... if you want me to invest in your setting at least bother to make things to have at least a little bit of sense. Turning it black & white is not enough.
- The dogs technical functions seemed to jump around all the time... This is sort of endless. / Can magically generate and store power forever apparently (since it can still charge from within the factory)... still goes on standby. / Instead of killing the target point blank it prefers to instill a tracking device before it kills the person. / It just hides in the factory.. because robots. / Abandons factory straight away and goes for the target not instilled with a tracking device. / Can at first only track people via tracking device (still kills the other guy and can drive a car just fine however), later on it can still employ a sort-off wallhack (it did the tracking by an endless stream of blood left behind LOL)... however once it was in the house it could not see behind the furniture she was located at. / Can apparently only kill with a weapon(knife here) after it lost it's weapon - scary. / They suddenly swarm the area so they can supposedly communicate with each other, but that isn't really seen in their behavior regardless.
- The reason for getting a teddy this far out can't be made up. If this really was a dangerous world people would have helped themselves differently (and not by leaving the dying kid there). This wasn't just something that happened a few days ago anyways.
- We are supposed to believe this is a world that exist. So obviously she first runs away when the first guy gets attacked, only to stand still to have him tell to run away again on which she still does this as she wouldn't have cared either way.
- These things get rekt by energy drain, paintjobs, trees and are only good in close range. Now this will wipe humanity out for certain...
all I can say is that 4K HDR in B&W is really beautiful.
Note to Apple and google- don't include deadly weapons into friendly pet robots. Thanks
worst episode of the entire series
Everytime I'm reading comments about black mirror episodes I feel like it's a black mirror episode itself.
Who let the dogs out? No, really...
So terrible, omg... Boring to death
This was probably my favorite episode of an otherwise mediocre season. Still not great, but some standout scenes along the way. Shot lovingly in black and white, it was a solid thriller of a chase sequence. As for the antagonist, others may have been creeped out by the Boston Dynamic style legs, I loved it's vicious twisting of the knife.
Hopelessly good, so far the most terrifying episode this season. Bleak future if you prefer the wrong side of the law. Another 9/10!
The dumbest episode of Black Mirror - watching a fucking terminator dog chase a woman for 40 minutes. That's not what this show used to be about
Ths one seems to split the audience. I'm not entirely sure why except it's not really Black Mirror territory.
Maxine Peak is excellent (as always) and the black and white shooting adds to the atmosphere. It does add to the bleak situation we find ourselves in.
In some ways this is reminscent of the terminator films. An enemy that is relentless and the main character is a bit dumb at times - on the radio is annoying especially, you've repeatedly said you need to get off the radio but minutes later there you are - just ermm. get off the radio?
Overall though I liked this, there was an air of tension if the events were a bit crontrived. The action worked well and the setting was suitably desolate. Black Mirror has a few well trodden tropes and this wasn't one of them, so a refreshing change.
One of the better episodes in my opinion, and not deserving of the criticism it attraced.
It's funny to see how this is the worst rated episode of BM, considering is the one that makes uses of a technology that's already in existance RIGHT NOW. Boston Dynamics has been prototyping robo-dogs for years. Makes me giggles a little bit seeing how everybody is criticizing how this is so unrealistic, which is literally the least sci-fi settling of the whole show history.
This episode had big potential, but it ended up being the most boring of all the series for me. it was so repetitive and unecessarily long, and I wish they had made a backstory for the dogs. I'm hoping the next episode will be much better, so it can wrap up Black Mirror nicely for me because I've quite enjoyed the show up until this season.
This is certainly a marmite episode.
The storyline itself was good, but it leaves too much to the viewers imagination. I would have liked more fleshing out of the dystopian world, and the current state of humanity.
As it is, it leaves us in the dark. if the Dogs are prevalent everywhere, and unstoppable... why risk death going into the wilderness for something so trivial?
I love this show, but this episode was just BORING
Y'know, this is actually an artistic & interactive episode. This is pure art, the photography, the script, the play by the actress. This is merely to appreciate all the staff work, then you have to figure out your own plot.
I don't "get it."
Kind of a let down. I really liked the superfast machine 'dogs' and wondered what they were and how they came to be but the lack of storytelling made this one of the most boring episodes of the show. Unsatisfying ending.
Sorry, but I don't get the concept and this episode bored me to death. I gave it the rating it deserved :/
the worst episode of all black mirror seasons
Worst episode of the season. So boring and no point to it at all.
Not having any backstory and not knowing why everything was happening made for the worst episode of Black Mirror hands down. Boring.
a very tragic episode and making it in Black & white made it riveting to boot.
a bit of a slow start, but i liked the episode by the end. i really didn't like the black and white filter, though.
The reason why I rated a 2 instead of a 1 is because this was beautifully recorded in black and white. It looks gorgeous. But this was so a shity story.
What's the point of this? worst episode (except cinematography and DI) of BM...
What? What was all of this about?
Definitely the most boring and pointless episode of the whole series.
This is literally pointless episode
I would like to see (I think) a prequel to this episode in a future season. The backstory of the “dogs” is very intriguing! Also, good choice to produce this in black and white.
What the hell was this actually about?
Slow AND boring. I feel jealous of those who haven't watched this episode
This is what I call a shit acting, I can't stand her! This episode is one of the worst ones really
Up until the last minute I was enjoying the episode, I get that it's a reference to classic terror movies and it's quite cool. But it's the lame exuse for and end/conclussion/reason of the story that makes it that bad. There is no reflection about humans or technology in this episode at all, you could make one up, yes, but it's not in the episode.
Whilst the cinematography is great and the Black & White effective as far as storyline goes this is by far the least enjoyable episode of all 4 seasons
This episode was complete trash, my expectations were already low when I read its description but this is just terrible. TV just sucks nowadays, movies too, it seems like nobody knows what they are doing.
So someone has read Fahrenheit 451 and stayed fascinated with the fireman's dog? Anyway, with a few laps more and more context would have been better.
Reminds me of "Alien" and "Terminator".
A recurring theme in Black Mirror is the pointlessness of everything that happens. No matter what, things turn to shit in the end. It's a bit depressing.
I thought the tension was done well.
Car not starting in a crucial situation was already played out before Crocodile.
The black and white goes really well with this one. Starts like a standard post apocalyptic scavenger hunt. Then wow a shrapnel trap, nasty. And it's actually a killer AIbo, sweet. And with guns! It's so cute when it runs, and its vision system is really cool.
Apart from that, the main character seems quite stupid. Like why stop and wait when the van crashes ? or why the 1000 count to wake the dog ? You can clearly see it's using batteries for 3 seconds while she stays awake for 15 minutes. It's probably been sleeping for days or weeks in the warehouse, it could go a long time like this, she should have awakened it as soon as it went to sleep.
As for the past three episodes the final seconds reveal is really meh and does not bring anything to the story. So they did all that for a teddy bear hmm ? Well we don't have enough information, we see the results, they all die, but we don't know how risky it was in the beginning, maybe they were just really unlucky. It's still quite stupid though.
It would have been nice to have some background on how this world came to be, even though I get that was not the point of the story.
Relentless, but could have used a little more something on its bones. As an exercise in lean, mean chase thriller with tech bend (that box monster design is just superb) and unobtrusive world-building on its sides though, this gets the job done.
Can't believe all of the negative comments. This was a beautifully shot, well thought out story. Everything in it had a purpose. And that final shot was the clincher. This was a story about the human spirit.
Had I known a little of the backstory I might be invested in the episode, but this was pointless
So in a post-apocalyptic world you send three people out into a world with thousands of killer robot dogs equipped with guns in their paws and can fire frag grenades into the air, all to retrieve a teddy bear. GTFO. I give it points for style and suspense, but this does not have any substance. Worst episode of the series so far.
Don't listen to the complainers here - this episode is worth watching. Like USS Callister it does feel different to most Black Mirror episodes, but that shouldn't be seen as a bad thing. The black and white cinematography is well suited to this episode which has a feeling reminiscent of The Road - both post-apocalyptic with no mention of what the 'apocalypse' was, both tightly focused on one or two characters. The episode isn't a neat package but again, this is Black Mirror we're talking about - expecting a clear lesson or meaning out of it is to misunderstand the point of the show. We don't know the details of what led to this apparently post-apocalyptic world, but that doesn't matter. That isn't the focus of the episode. Maxine Peake's almost solo performance as Bella is excellent, and what she was looking for or why is never really relevant. What is relevant is her fear and determination. We know nothing about her, but we feel the tension and desperation. While some episodes of Black Mirror feel like I only observe the characters, with Metalhead I was there with Bella in the desolate unknown countryside, invested in her plight.
Well, this one was thrilling and exciting and all, but the great reveal in the end was rather lame.
So robot dogs, huh? Not that great of a concept and boring episode.
Being tracked by a starving beast
Looking for its daily feast
A predator on the verge of death
Close to its last breath
Getting close to its last breath
RULES OF NATURE
Superb episode! You Just need to fantasize the backstory yourselves. There are enough hints to do so. It has nothing to do with bad writing. The main character plays marvelously. The cinematography splendid.
This episode feels more like Oats Studios shorts. Still good but you want more.
I really liked this episode until the end!
There were a lot of poor choices by these characters which, unlike other Black Mirror episodes, was not concealed by the sheer complexity of the universe. There were quite a few moments where fear or panic would not explain their decision making.
Revealing what they were ultimately searching at the end completely ruins this episode. The interpretive nature of their journey and what compelled them to put their lives in danger was the best part... Then the creators decided the entire story was worth diminishing by conveying to the audience one more time how stupid these people were.
4/10
Poor
What's to really say.
Loved the chase
absolutely relentless
and intense, would
have loved to have seen
that all play out
in a solid episode.
All in all it was all
rather forgettable
and the motivation
behind it all was
Bull-crap and unclear,
Bella spent to much time
fcuking around on the
radio and I literally thought
she was going to run herself
a bath she spent that much
time in there.
Verdict: pointless
piss-poor and very
underwhelming.
(I want more
Bang for my Buck)
Since there was little to no explanation, I couldn't get invested in the story (running away from a metal dog). At the same time it was tense to follow the chase.
It was an interesting episode, but I didn’t really get the ending with the box of teddy bears??
I will always defend this entry - it is simplicity at full force - and it does a great job making what is practically a digital box with legs seem intimidating as fuck but admittedly not much of the runtime is much to warrant any infatuation.
I want my 40 minutes back
Someone's really angry at Boston Dynamics. That was the only context may be. Not worthy to be a black mirror episode. The whole episode was essentially a trope.
What this episode is missing is some context. The predator/prey scenario without an ounce of background info—while suspenseful—just doesn't do a whole lot for me beyond that.
the woman killing herself after she finally defeats the dog is bad enough, but then you find out three people died just to get a kid a replacement teddy bear...? honestly I was totally fine with this episode until that double-eyeroll whammy. I get that Black Mirror loves downer endings, but if you spend an entire hour with a single character in a bleak environment, you want SOME kind of emotional payoff. letting the main character have her hard-won victory would have made this episode totally okay in my book, especially considering the stunning cinematography and beautiful use of B&W. it would still be a bittersweet victory, after all... all that suffering and death, and just a single dog put out of commission.
Average episode.
This is not black mirror
I appreciate how different it's trying to be and not to say it's the worst episode ever - Still, what a huge backfire this was.
I'm assuming the episode intention is to make you feel this intensity, but none of that was there for me, just really boring. The message is obvious and holds no weight to anything.
3 Human Beings < 1 Teddy Bear
Are you freaking kidding me?!!
all for the teddy! didn't get it.
This is not black mirror
Whilst this episode had great promise, I think the end did not live up,to,the rest of this promise. Could have been so much more. Black and white too?
Meh!!
Why didnt she take 2 minutes to find a big rock and bash in the little shitter?? I know it takes 2 shotgun shots, but at least the legs!
and again with the paint!!! u had the gun right there, shoot him!!
And it was so obvious that they went in for a stupid thing.. so so obvious..
I'm sorry but you'll have to watch it to see what all the fuss i about.
Loved it. One great story of human survival...
Though that i was gonna hate it, but in the end i loved it.
This felt more like a short movie than any other episode. The kind of concept for a short movie, prolongued to 40 minutes. One that could win a short movie festival, but lacking the depth I would expect for a Black Mirror episode.
Weak episode with VERY nice camera work. The problem is actually with the script.. There are nice suspense moments, but overall script as is the ending (I mean its bad in scripting part)..
I have to agree with nbnlh. Netflix set the bar so high with this series that an episode which is merely very, very good seems bad in comparison.

Even though it's my least favourite episode in the series, it's still a masterpiece. That in itself says enough about this show. A must watch imo
ma cosa abbiamo visto? fatevi un favore: saltate questo episodio.
i did like the suspense of my episode, but the concept and those robot dogs were a little all over the place.
Good suspenseful beginning but again with the violence. Admittedly not as much as "Crocodile" but without more mind candy in the script, it just feels that the episode was just about shock value.
Why what you call something "dog" that so clearly isn't good?

She is such stupid. How could she prolong so long?
