I think this is about cruelty, in a social way. About social revenge, and mostly criticizing the "eye for an eye" thing.
I was on edge THE WHOLEEE EPISODE holy shit, I kept imagining myself in her situation. I guessed the end a little, but in this way her partner got a WAYYY better ending than she did cos he killed himself in his cell before any of this shit could happen to him. Theyre preventing her from even THINKING about killing herself either, which is insane. I could never take part in a show like this, and the main character was AMAZING. Her acting shocked me so hard. She really deserves recognition.
When the wall opened and the crowd started to applaud...WHAT. IN. THE. ACTUAL. FUCK.
An eye for an eye. They designed this world to have the prisoner live as tortured as their victim in virtually every way, literal and figuratively. It's a little too elaborate to be fully believable, an entire city? Idk. But it was very thought-provoking and disturbing. What she did was cruel, but she wasn't the murderer, she was the person standing by and doing nothing. Metaphorically, in the episode, she was the bystander with the phone camera doing nothing to help. She claimed she was brainwashed when all that went down and who knows... maybe she was. Do they attack victims of cults for the crimes the leaders commit because the leader can't answer for his own crimes? I'm not sure. Very meta and high-brow once more, fantastic.
That was quite impressive. I guess i'm a bit biased, though, because I love the concept of survival games, so that's always a plus for me :D
There are some open questions, like why society chose her to torture because her crime was cruel, yes, but I think there are other crimes that are at least equally cruel. Or if that's the only "Justice Park". Or for how long they plan on doing this and if the main character needs to do something different to break the cycle. But every episode so far had some open questions and I guess you can't expect to get a complete story within 45 minutes, so I'm okay with it.
The acting was great in this episode (the screams of the main character were incredible) and I had goosebumps from the beginning (seeing all these motionless people just filming and watching her was so freaking creepy), so I enjoyed it.
this is absolutely a mind f**k episode XD
Justice or entertainment?
This whole thing reminded me of Medieval times where people used to love watching public executions. I never understood how someone could find joy in watching the torture of others (even criminals), so it was honestly quite scary to see that same mindset displayed in modern times…
Did this woman deserve punishment? Yes, of course. Should we turn that punishment into a torture event for others to watch and enjoy? God no!
Favorite episode so far, thrilling and with a very nice twist.
i watched this episode first, out of the entire series, and wow what an impact. i was actually told about this show and particular episode in passing by a friend who thought i'd appreciate the punishment and it took me part of the episode to recognize that this was what she'd been talking about. i love this actress to begin with, but when it dawned on me what was truly going on with her character i was even more impressed. i felt for her so strongly at first and when the truth of her situation was laid out for her i felt so conflicted - because as my friend had guessed, i wholeheartedly supported the eye for an eye angle that these people had taken, and only wish that the man had been put through it too. still, the actress created such a bond with me during her character's desperation to survive that i couldn't help but feel a little sorry for her at the end. but boy, what an intense way to handle sentencing someone for their crimes - it felt very much like a modernized gladiator fight, in that the woman is being punished but it's still a form of entertainment for everyone else involved. modern society dictates that the moment we start "playing god" or taking pleasure in the suffering of others, that we've gone too far, and i think like the rest of the series, this episode of black mirror makes you seriously consider what modern society has done both right and wrong.
The majority of the runtime is tedious and a lot boring to watch. The whining and screaming is ridiculously annoying watch. A simple twist can't change the fact that most of its runtime was boring.
I definitely think 'White Bear' rhyming with 'Nightmare' was intentional.
The first not great Black Mirror episode in my opinion, which seems strange since it's a favourite for many.
I just think the twist is basically ALL of the idea and so the majority of the runtime is actually kinda tedious - the bad shaky camerawork and mid acting certainly didn't help.
And, on top of that, I just feel this episode is the epitome of when Black Mirror can sometimes be too negative and nihilist. I mean, it's basically misery porn. You could definitely argue that's the point though, since we represent the audience who is watching Victoria suffer in the episode.
This is the mindfuck episode so far. Like......holy shit.
This is the episode you should use to introduce people to the show imo.
How do we define justice?
Within the first few seconds, I thought it was gonna be a zombie episode in vein of 28 Days Later or something when she woke, then I got a sort of The Purge kinda feel with the costumes and chasing, and later a Running Man feel. It's a never-ending nightmare like in Groundhog's Day or Happy Death Day. I was hoping she'd come to realize what's happening and would try to change and escape it but nope.
They have the technology to change a person's mind in a literal way and instead of using it for rehabilitation they keep punishing the shell of the person that committed the crime. It's about how avenge satisfies more than actual justice.
I'm just: MIND = BLOWN
Lol what the fuck is wrong with this show.
Sadly, fully understand the meaning of the episode.
Interesting story, except for the protagonist

The twist was the best part. The whole concept of justice is put in the spotlight here. I would say the people in charge of this type of torture are just as guilty as she is and instead of striving to be better than her, humanity just decides that reciprocating her behaviour day after day is acceptable.
This shit is fckn scary, cruel and weird af
Almost lose my patience during the story goes. This one will keep you waiting for the whole story to unfold. You keep guessing until the ending scene comes. Brilliant. Picturing how cruel the society could be.. wow.
I rooted for the wrong person. Man, what an ending.
It's sick.Good episode but once you understand this show's mindset you can see that coming.7.2/10
There is so much screaming in annoying way
Manhunt inspired.
The game have similar story.
Huge plot twist in this episode
Wow, this episode has some really strong content
I am all for the "eye for an eye" punishment. BRAVO!
This is by far the best episode on the whole show. I can only imagine if we made that in real life someday.
This episode was so "Discipline and Punish: The Birth of the Prison" by Michel Foucault
This episode blow my mind, creepiest thing I've ever seen
Such nightmare fuel of an episode, and the only other time apart from "The National Anthem" where I feel Brooker goes full nihilism and justifies it. Such a great premise and some astounding reflection back on the viewers, to implicate us in questions about mob mentality, the notion of justice, and violent entertainment that are worthy of Haneke. Find the protagonist's journey a bit too repetitively horrific for my taste, but being in Thailand at a nationally vulnerable moment where emotions can run high and flare up in the same manner as depicted in this one, I find this episode highly disturbing.

That was half an hour of the most annoying screaming and whining I've ever heard, though the twist almost made it worthwhile.
