Anthony Carrigan as NoHo Hank, best part of the season! Hopefully he'll be back next season!
not bad but not brilliant either. tonally i don't think it works that well and there's no one to really root for.
This show goes real deep and yet so amazing
Absolutely outstanding TV Show as Barry navigates life as a Hitman until he finds this drama class on a hit then falls in love with acting and also this lovely woman named Sally. Barry finds himself throughout this series confronting demons from his army past and his Hitman past after that, which almost makes you feel sorry for him as he does not know who he is and where the darkness ends and where the light begins. I defiantly recommend you watch this as it really navigates Barry's dark demon side and his newfound human side along with his girlfriend Sally who is forced to confront the demons of the past as well in this amazing story that is hilarious too.
Hank...is...Gold... Buddy? Hello Buddy? Ground control to Major Buddy...also the episode Ronny/Lily is a 10 haaaaaaa wtf I love it
This may be one of my favorite shows of the last decade, and not just because of my enduring love for Stephen Root. There’s an episode in Season 2 that I won’t ruin for you but that is just BONKERS - jaw on the ground raw hilarious weird ass madness. The way Hader portrays Barry is more layered than I knew he was capable of. And of course Anthony Carrigan is a national treasure. The 50/50 with Cristobal dance ALONE…
oh. my. god. This show is a work of art. I just finished season 2 and was staring, slack-jawed, at the screen. what a ride. Hilarious, raw, terrifying, exhilarating. Watch it.
At least there is an ending to the series. But there are too many parallels to Dexter.
What a disappointing last season. What a predictable and terrible crap ending. At least the final scenes of the fake-movie are added that give things a somewhat nice ending.
But after the great and inventive writing of the first seasons, this is all just one big disappointment.m
I really enjoyed the first season; 2nd and 3rd seasons were ok, but I found season 4 very hard to watch. Did not enjoy season 4 at all. Constant time jumps and dreams (I guess) made season 4 hard to follow.
The last season was not as good as the rest of the show. Ended with disappointment
The show has some ups and downs. First season I was wondering is this drama or parody. Second seasons start like first, but in the middle goes really good. Third seasons for me was the best. Fourth season is worst, six slow episodes with almost nothing happening and then they finish it in the last two. I did not like the final. The show started with Barry and Monroe. I was expecting the final to be about them. In my opinion it is not. I am ok with Sally story, but the other characters final was stupid.
I love, love, love this show. Nothing happens the way that I expected it to, the acting is beyong brilliant and the casting just couldn't be better. Anthony Carigan and Stephen Root are absolutely amazing in every scene, and the directing choices Bill Hader made in the last season are some of my favourite in TV & movie history ever.
It wasn't the best series I've watched, but it was entertaining. It was only the ending that completely let me down.
The way it ended, in my view, was terribly bad. How is it that after everything Barry has been through, being a seasoned professional, he's been ambushed?
Starts slowish on the first couple of episodes, but picks up speed after that. Funny and entertaining.
I love watching former snl cast going off and doing their own thing cause its always genuinely funny. Plus I always loved Bill Hader.
"We just got our asses handed to us by a 12-year old...She was like a feral mongoose." This show had me constantly belly laughing. The characters and plot are completely different. The show follows Barry, an ex-marine, and current assassin for hire, as he explores what makes him happy in life. This mostly consists of amateur acting and Sally Reed. Having been used by his handler for years, Barry begins to discover that he wants more for himself. The show goes on so many different twists and turns that it's hard to simply summarize the storyline. Lets just say the rotating cast and characters consist of the Chechnya mob (headlined by one of the funniest characters to ever grace a screen, NoHo Hank), a 12 year old jujitsu master, prison gangs, an acting class, and many many more.
While I think the show was really entertaining all the way through, Barry takes on a slightly different tone in season 3 and an entirely different tone in Season 4. Season 3 experiments with some more surreal and dream like concepts, while keeping the usual dramedy. I found it to be pretty interesting and thought it added a layer of depth to the show. The fourth and final season took on a very serious tone. There was still some comedy, but not nearly at the rate that the other seasons used. I would have liked to see a little more laughs in the fourth season.
The ending of the show gave a lot of characters their just desserts, which focused on their "true" natures. They acted with what was deep in their hearts and each got an ending surrounding that. I wouldn't say the ending is spectacular, but I found it enjoyable and pretty satisfying.
The show itself is definitely worth the watch. If you don't decide to watch this, "Well, you know what Sonny and Cher would say, that's on you babe." Thanks NoHo.
8/10
This show is very well written, well casted and well edited.
I've just started to watch it and I love it. They're all crazy in this show, but each in their own way. Don't know if after the first season it will maintain the appeal (well it's definitely not Ted Lasso) but let's enjoy the craziness.
First two seasons are amazing and will be loved by Weeds, OITNB, and Shameless fans; it's like those shows meet John Wick. Season three and four strike a tonal shift, though, that I don't think fully works. They're still okay, but as soon as they move Barry away from being a sympathetic manipulated/abused hitman trying to break free (but failing spectacularly) to a more literal "psycho" villain with anger issues, they kinda lost me. This is, unsurprisingly, right when they decide to stop exploring Barry's past, too, as it would almost certainly make him too sympathetic.
It's like by S3 they wanted to be Breaking Bad with more comedic beats, which left them with really only two possible endings if they weren't going to let their more obvious villain off the hook: Barry in prison or Barry dead. On top of this, all the characters are assholes, lol; not just flawed, straight up unlikable. I don't mind it, per se, but do think it would have been far funnier to see a more sympathetic Barry ultimately succeed in breaking free, albeit with a bunch of terrible murders committed in the process.
I don't regret watching the show at all and actually enjoy some things about the ending, but it lost its humor a bit along the way, and I simply would have preferred a different tale. Also, (big spoiler warning) not a fan of the buried gays.
I was really loving this show until the final few episodes. They are a mess - it felt so rushed. Like they weren't prepared for the show to end and it suddenly had to - which I'm not getting, since it was so good. Did they cancel it? Was there no more they could write for the show? I just felt robbed of a real ending - not that. I especially didn't care for the sudden jumps into things where you are trying to figure out "is this a dream" or "is this just extremely confusing", due to the mere fact that at the end of one episode he is leaving for LA to kill someone, and the next episode all of a sudden he's captured? They don't explain how it happened, how he got there, anything, it sure would have been nice to not be in the dark about these things and I felt like from writing standpoint this was really poorly done which was a bummer because the rest of the show I thought was done really well and I like the characters especially and obviously Hank which we all seem to like - his death was good, I'll grant that. I mean the way he died holding the hand of Cristobal's statue - but honestly, i would probably have preferred them not even killing that guy in the first place if they were ending the show, and going through the entire saving him thing - it was so horrifying - only to have him die so quickly, it's just really too quick for the audience imo.
I enjoyed the movie at the end - it was funny. That was the only highlight really
Unlikable characters, strange story
B
ignoring everything in the show, merely Goldberg's acting and Bill Hader's directing is a solid 10/10
This show is so well made, it’s a joy to watch. I love the cast, and the way it’s filmed.
And the simple underlying premise that everyone here is miserable and trying to get happy, and the ultimate challenge of changing your life for the better has so much comedic and equally dramatic potential. And this show is bridging these two components so well.
s1 was surprising .
hidden identify etc. but it has lost its surprising effect after 1/2 season .
but thats ok.
s2 was continuation. its okk.
s3 was chore for me.
at s2 s3 story focused mafia more than before.
i didnt like it.
i dont wanna watch mafia. if there were none . it would've been better.
look at dexter /you , they did really good without mafia.
i dont wanna watch s4. cuz
Barry was written in a way where the character had incredible coincidental luck but also tasted a lot of negative setbacks. We rooted for him to do better... "starting now". I think the coincidental luck should have carried through to the end, I think season 4 tried too hard to make this darker and show us a more realistic take on Barry. Personally I didn't think it worked, it took a lot of the joy and dark comedy and just got messy. Like many series it's started out great but didn't stick the landing. That said I enjoyed my time with Barry and hope to see what else Bill Hader does in the future.
What a fantastic show! I will watch everything directed by Hader now for sure. His ability to mix in comedy with gruesomeness is unparalleled. I really want to see him go all out in making a dark comedy movie. I heard that he aspires to direct horror and i would watch the hell out of it.
As for the ending, the whole time jump did in fact leave a sour taste in my mouth because it took the momentum of out the show. If it wasn't for that, I would give this show a 10.
I would rank seasons are S3 >>> S4 > S2 >> S1.
This is probably one of the most underrated shows to come out in the last 5 years and deserves all the accolades.
The acting is definitely a highlight to complement the writing. Nearly everyone's performance deserves awards but a special mention to Sally Reed.
Show overall and season 4 rated a 9
High Highs and Low Lows
Funny, original and genuinely entertaining hit man plot, good NoHo subplot, and all others (Gene, Sally, acting lessons, police etc) slow and boring AF.
I get I’m going against consensus but not even one of the funniest scenes I’ve ever seen (car dealership shootout) can boost the overall watchability. Whole series largely felt like ‘work’. Love Bill Hader, not so much the show.
5/10
This show had me fired up from the beginning.
Fun to watch a hitman trying to change profession while finding himself.
Excellent first season, good 2 and 3rd seasons and a mediocre 4th and final season.
The last season feels like a different show from the other 3.
Worth a watch but I needed to push through the last season.
I recommend this show
S1: 8/10
S2: 9/10
S3: 9/10
S4: 7/10
This show was a textbook consistency for the first three seasons. A well paced, dark comedy with short and sweet seasons that are a delight to watch. Season 4 is also quality, but also much darker, less humorous, and a time jump that felt a smidge odd for pacing. This show will appeal to a bunch of people and one that is reason to recommend (especially due to its short runtime).
Average Season Review: 7.88/10
Recommendation: At Least Give it a Whirl (For Dark Comedy Fans)
Biggest negative is how woke it is, the parts involving Barry are really good.
My score for this show is a reluctant seven. It really deserved a less, but I based my per-episode ratings on production values and topics touched upon. Based upon story and writing, I would've given this show a three- or four-star rating. The writing and direction, as in direction of the storylines, was incredibly lazy. This show was a constant stream of the relatives of those killed by Barry coming back to seek revenge against him. It wasn't all that interesting of an idea to begin w/, and it certainly didn't get better as seasons progressed.
I was immediately bored w/ this series, and I never really grew an interest in watching any of it. I found the characters to be really "meh." I thought that the best character was NoHo Hank, but his role in this wasn't very consequential. Then again, no one's role in this was consequential b/c of the way the show was designed. There was no one to root for, and practically everyone on this show was some self-serving individual. In nearly every instance, these characters were incredibly one-dimensional.
And, what was w/ the final season? There were what, three consecutive episodes leading into the finale which Bill Hader didn't appear in? What were they thinking? It recalled a line from a great movie, Quiz Show, where one of the main characters, Charles Van Doren, wasn't called to testify during a congressional investigation, where he was a central figured, and the wife of the main protagonist stated, "Quiz show hearings without Van Doren was like doing Hamlet without Hamlet." How do you have a show focused so completely on one man, and three of the four final episodes don't feature this character? It's mind-boggling how this show received such incredible ratings.
Barry is a show that should be remembered as one of the best dark comedies ever created, perhaps the best. There are sequences in this show and in some cases entire episodes that had me laughing harder than I ever have watching any piece of media out there. Yet the show still manages to provide a devastating, destructive, and often unsettling story through and through. Telling this story while making me laugh uncontrollably along the way is a remarkable achievement and the balance in tone should not be understated. The peak of the series came in season 2 for me, which took what was great about the first season and made it even better. Seasons 3 and 4 couldn't achieve the heights of season 2, but they were great seasons of TV in their own rights. Barry is also a very bold show, and this was best exemplified in the decisions they made in the last season. Things happened that were completely unexpected and while I do think they pushed a bit too far, at the end of the day it all came together in a finale that was true to the show and its strengths, as well as true to Barry as a character. The show also takes moments to comment on real world issues that are pretty sensitive, but it does so in the right way by maintaining its darkly comedic tone in these moments and never shoving it in your face. This is a show that truly stands out and I will miss it dearly.
9.1/10 -- Excellent
[HBO Max] In the universe of fiction's most fascinating antiheroes, Barry Berkman accompanies Walter White, Dexter Morgan, Tony Soprano and Don Draper, characters who progressively embrace the darkness until there is no way out but to continue entering it. And that's when the concept of redemption or forgiveness takes on a more tragic tone, that of being someone they don't really want to be. "Barry" has the weirdest motorcycle chase, the most outlandish fight scene, and the most radical change of tone in recent years. A story of tragic characters who finally find the only possible ending.
excellent and intriguing at first though for me it starts to lose itself in the final season. still some truly incredible moments throughout, but I don't quite think it stuck the landing
I have to say I genuinely loved this show, Bill Hader is a Hollywood genius who can do everything
A really great show through the first 3 seasons. Unfortunately, the 4th season just didn't connect. Felt like they didn't know how to bring it to a meaningful end.
One of my favourite modern shows
This show changes from "best show ever" to "what is this trash" every 100 minutes.
GOOD
+ There are several action scenes that are OUT OF THIS WORLD. Camera, choreography, pacing... you haven't seen anything like this - especially not in a TV show. If you're gonna skip this show, at least watch episode "ronny/lily" (till the end of the supermarket scene) and the motorbike chase in 3x06 (until the shotgun shootout at the car dealer)!
+ Hank
+ Several hilariously funny scenes (especially season 1)
+ Just when you thought you were watching a comedy, the show hits you with gut-wrenching drama or violence.
BAD
- After season 1, the overarching story goes down the drain. Don't try to make sense of what people do in season 2 - it gets a little better in season 3.
- WTF is Fuches' storyline? Or Sally's? Or Barry's? There is no growth, no change, they repeat the same sht over and over and over.
- Everyone other than Hank is terrible and you soon wish they would die in a fire. Yes, even supporting characters like the acting students.
- Barry oscillates between 500 IQ mastermind and stuttering idiot that falls into every amateur trap available (see ending of season 3).
An absolute shit show... not for me that's for sure. Give it a shot if you want to maybe you'll like it
If you're looking for a hilarious show that will have you laughing out loud, then look no further than Barry!
The writing is sharp and the humor is often unexpected, with some truly absurd moments that somehow manage to feel grounded in the show's world. Whether it's Barry's deadpan delivery, NoHo Hank's enthusiastic cluelessness, or the many, many times Gene Cousineau mispronounces a word, there's always something to laugh at.
But what really makes Barry stand out is the way it manages to balance the humor with genuine moments of tension and drama. There are some truly intense scenes throughout the series that will have you on the edge of your seat, and the emotional stakes are always high. Plus, the show manages to pull off one of the most satisfying season finales I've ever seen.
Overall, Barry is a must-watch for anyone who loves a good dark comedy. It's funny, it's thrilling, and it's just plain entertaining. Don't miss out on this one!
This show was just so good. The comedy, action, and especially drama elements we’re amazing. This show had me on the brink of tears multiple times.
This show was amazing! The first season was a blast! Very interesting and kept me hooked all the way to the end. The second season started a little slow, with the 1st episode that didn't really convince me, but it picked up immediately afterwards with the 2nd episode. And then again, the third season started with 1 or 2 episodes that felt a little off but, just when I thought I was out, they pulled me back in!
If you're like me and prefer binging the whole thing, I suggest you wait until season 4 comes out(and maybe check if that's gonna be the last one). I got too impatient and was misled by a couple of reviews, but man I can't say I regret it. Loved it!
Wow what a series, I Binge watched all 3 seasons within 3 days... I didn't get bored even once... People who rated less, seriously I don't understand what they want. This is an Incredible show.. Need more seasons
A certain episode in season 2 almost made me die of laughter
At the start, it seemed like the show was trying to be a new Dexter with a comedy twist. Then I thought maybe it's a parody show of Dexter and shows like it, but I couldn't tell when they were trying to be funny or serious as it could get quite gruesome as well. The show seems a bit lost in it's sense of direction and goes all over the place. The writers almost had it because their humor is great, but the base plotline is a total mess. There is no character arch for any characters, especially Sally. She's just awful and her arch made no sense between season 1 and 2 with how she treated Barry. And Fuchs has a weird undiagnosed ADHD thing going on with one moment being obsessed with Barry, getting distracted for a while and then gets reminded of Barry and goes nuts...he makes no sense except to bring extra chaos, which seems to be a revolving door in this show. NoHo Hank is the secret surprise, he's a star! I want to like the show, but something in each episode just puts me off, so it's mediocre for me.
Barry S03
Barry is propelled by the bizarre inequities of sense of commonality and in its third season it is funnier, darker and even more intimate. Bill Hader returns as the show runner and lead and he is outrageously great. This dark comedy is not something you have ever seen before, the writing and characterization of all stars keep getting better and funnier in the most absurd way possible. Sarah Goldberg and Henry Winkler are super solid and their characters gets interesting too. Wierd things happen in each show which elevates the uncanny nature of the show . The sarcasm, wit and scintillating performances of all leads keep you glued to complete the entire show in one go. Easily a crazy, dark comedy you can binge watch in no time.

Close to perfection. And all done without feeling the need to have 10-12 55min episodes just for the sake of it.
S1: Kind of a funny and goofy premise with the acting class that opens up some weird comedy. lots of great characters though and nothing feels too forced upon ya and it all flows pretty good. Root is one of the best support actors of our time.
S2: Decent enough but it spent too much time with the class.
S3:Lots of weird stuff but it continues to move along.
S4: Hmmm, I thought i was going to be rating the season a 1 at one point. Endings are so hard to do... I will say it was for the most part wrapped up satisfactory...
what a finale! simply amazing
realy love this show and hope there will be much more BARRY in the future.
What a shitshow the start was ok then the girl was so anoying and the the gay dude in s2 wtf!!
Funny thing, I watched the first episode and found it very boring, then I Google it: "When does Barry series gets better?" And they said it gets better after 7 episodes.
Then I went to watch the second episode, but since HBO GO app is the worse, I ended up watching the second episode of the second season, and it really felt like I was watching the second episode of the first season, because the plot was almost the same.
So that S02E02 is supposed to be when it gets better? Sorry but I'll drop it. No regrets.
An inside joke on Hollywood that runs out of laughs. I had heard promising things about this series (it kicked up a lot of award attention) so I finally gave it a watch. After a hopeful beginning (it had a unique premise which is always a good beginning for me) it just got ridiculous, silly and tired as it went, finally succumbed to the Industry's bad habit of applauding productions that mirrors itself back to itself. This show just doesn't go beyond being an inside joke on Hollywood. I won't waste my time watching the third season. I give this a 3 (tiresome) out of 10. [Comedic Criminal Behaviour]
Not bad at all. Bill Hader is amazing as always. There weren't any superhard laughs and by the end there were no at all. Show consistently delivers, but maybe not what you expect. It starts with comedy but nothing remotely comedic left by the Ep 7. Bill Hader also looks a bit like Michael C. Hall, so last episodes definitely have Dexter-y feel to them.
It is also nice to see comedy-drama with relatively small budget got Russian speakers playing Russian (Chechen) mob. In Ep 6 Mark Ivanir suddenly starting singing "Tрус не играет в хоккей" ("No Coward Plays Hockey") on the scene made me choke on tea I was drinking.
This show is brilliant ! I can't wait for the next season.
Bill Hader is just fantastic and every scene is perfect, the writing is also really really smart. I watched this show to get a few good laughs but I ended up feeling so mane deep emotions for every character! it's a must-watch!
At episode 4. So far the show is good but wish the pacing was faster. 30 mins feels more like 45 mins.

NoHo Hank...best character. Hope he gets a bigger role if there is another season. He’s awesome on Gotham as well.
