What I most got out of Lake Laogai was its character work. This was a great showing for Zuko. We finally get Iroh abandoning his gentle parenting techniques and demand Zuko actually think about what he wants and it works to great success. The end of the blue spirit here feels fitting.

We also get the tragic end to Jets story. Jet is such a fascinating character and while I don't love his original episode there's such an impact to his death because he's such an engaging character who you can't help but feel deserved a chance to be better. All I can say is I'm glad his end was surrounded by family.

Between the great character journeys and the phenomenal fight scenes with the gaang + the freedom fighters against the Dai Li this was a solid episode. My favourite moment is easily that single tear Aang sheds as he finally hugs Appa. Honestly I think I'm entitled to reparations for how much emotional distress Appa being missing caused me. But I'm so glad to have our boy back

literally the unclear end to jet's story is the one thing that's keeping this episode from being a 10 for me cause this episode is sO good

and i would have gotten away with it too, if it weren’t for you meddling kids and your stupid flying bison!

AHHH THIS EPISODE! Jet’s “death,” incredible fighting sequences, Toph, Appa’s return and the reunion of the gaang, and, of course:

“It’s time to start asking yourself the big questions: Who are you? And what do you want?”
