Old Bumi is so old BBC merlin coded :joy:
This episode had me sobbing for Iroh but that was the only interesting storyline for me this episode.
lol what did I just watch
Weakest episode so far for me, what saved it was the bond between Iroh and Zuko, but Katara and Sokka really went through all of that just to slide on the floor really slowly to push Bumi?? Also halfway through the season now and starting to get worried they're gonna skip some amazing episodes from season 1
That's the one I quit
The cartoon was for clever kids, the live action is for dumb adults
Doesn't count as causing an emotional response if you trick the viewer by playing leaves from the vine. That hasn't been earned by this show and what you feel is caused by your knowledge of the original. Not this. Very cheap.
Don't like the Bumi stuff at all. Acting is all still shit. Iroh isn't Irohing enough for me.
Had to do a double take when I realised they'd made Oma and Shu two queer women. Appreciate the subtlety of it and lack of fanfare. That's how it's done.
You know what's cheating? Iroh's grief, Zuko's heart and playing Leaves From the Vine. Right back in there. Iroh lasted longer than I did, that story's emotional gravity is always a tearjerker for me and they did it justice
Wouldn't have minded hearing Mako one last time but the entire segment may have been much, it does feel respectful they didn't redo the vocals.
Decent episode with an anticlimactic ending with some dumb slide.
+1 for well integrated references of the original works.
This adaptation proves its intent with this episode while also missing so much nuance. It perfectly performs a demonstration of how these characters work to balance each other while rushing through any subtext. Every story crammed into this episode demands its own episode, that’s why they were told that way in the original show.
"My cabbages!"

Too much cringy silliness in this episode. Like the script writers targeted really stupid kids.
The Zuko and Iroh stuff really elevates this episode, the other parts were pretty meh.

Acting is ok, visuals are great, Iroh and Zuko were the best here.
But what I‘m annoyed with is how they completely changed Bumi‘s character. Iroh is slightly different, too.
And the worst is how they changed the story. Zuko and Iroh weren’t supposed to be in Omashu.
The Omashu tunnel should have come later.
And when will Aang start water bending? He hasn’t even touched water since the beginning. In the original series he starts in the first episode. Yes he was in the avatar state but still…
