Such an emotional episode... but without any foreshadowing.
Mary was in good health at the end of the previous episode, apart from the cut at her hand (thanks again, son).
Also, the Anne-Gilbert relationship seems to have forgotten its coldness of the previous episode, which I for sure appreciate, but it is disrespectful of the continuity of the show.
Speaking about that, Gilbert seems to face a love dilemma, I'm interested to see what he'll do next.
Goodbye Mary.

What a heart-wrenching episode. This is getting so sad... again. Out of nowhere.

that son is such a terrible person. Not only does he exploit goodness and steal, he just ... ignores his mother’s demise. Fucking asshole. I hope he gets what he deserves.

I’m much troubled by the “Indian” representative who wants to “educate” the “savages”.

The only thing that was cute was how they left the baby in a man’s care who’d never even held a baby before. Change? Feed?! What?!?! Haha.

This strange moment when you start crying over a character that wasn't in the books. Very moving episode, particularly for people who experienced grief and loss in their own lives. The advice Gilbert gave Bash is very good and if you are in the same situation, do as Gilbert says, I regret I hadn't spent enough time with my Dad as he had been dying. Coming back to the episode itself, it may be silly but until the end I hoped that Mary will somehow get better.

On Season 3, Anne sets out to discover and understand who she truly is, starting with her parentage. After painful setback from the orphanage, this episode sets her up with unlikely new kindred spirit, Delphine, Sebastian and Mary's baby.

Despite suddenness of many recent events, this episode somehow meshes everything perfectly. Mary's recent experience with her estranged son, aforementioned parentage quest. They all fit to grow the series further in a way the classic novels failed to achieve.

The episode rises gradually until the final scene that can only be described as a crescendo of glowing send off for our beloved character.
