If you liked Mare of East Town earlier this year then you'll probably like this though it feels more somber in a certain way. Where Mare had the funny family dynamic to lift up the mood in every episode, American Rust is all about the perceived realities of living in a small town in the Rust Belt and people forgotten by the modern world who are just trying to get by. I like shows that portray the world outside the big cities so I'm looking forward to the rest of the season.
This comes out before Mare of Easttown and you might think much higher of it. Instead it feels like a tribute band.

As of 6 days ago, the jury is still out on whether there will be a Season 2 of this show, which is unfortunate because all the plot strands were unresolved and we were left with huge cliffhangers. This series was compared to MARE OF EASTTOWN but It lacks all of the things that made that series great - wit, characters you cheered for, stand out performances, colour and hope in the midst of trouble. Personally, I have a problem with series that don’t have seasonal plot arcs within a larger series landscape, they feel mercenary, as in, “Give is a budget/job security and we will tell you a complete story.” I feel we are being held for ransom. I think the show isn’t worth the gamble of them finding their story. I give this series a 6 (lacking) out of 10. [Crime Drama]
S01: decent enough show with good actors, location, and ambiance. I agree with others though that it feels like it has already been done a few times over the last few years. It covered a whole book but the ending wasn't that satisfying and felt unfinished.

Episode 2 is a complete waste of film (if they still used film). Skip it and you'll miss nothing in the "plot".
Got to episode 3 and am completely disinterested in the people or the "story" - I'm done.

Even before it was aired people already had given a bad review, so I gave it 10 to even the score.
It's a very slow crime/drama and the acting is not what I've been used to see from Showtime, maybe it's me not seeing the actors fit the role, I don't know. For me it would be a 7/10 because if at 7m in I was looking for my phone by the end of it I was interested enough to go back to that 7m and pay a bit more attention. I hope this shows gets better. But I reckon won't appeal to many.
