This episode comes down to Marceline and the Vampire King's fight, and the idea of her accepting gradual change and seeing things repeat themselves. It's Adventure Time at its most philosophical (a la "The Comet") and the idea of accepting the scary and unknown over endless repetition of the same. There were still some good laughs, but this was heavier, and yet better for it. Though Peppermint Butler's hero worship and autograph bit was hilarious.
