Gregory: All these rules are so... hard... and rigid...

Ava: Well here's a rule. Put your arms away, Jeremy Allen Black.

Really fun double episode premiere. I still loved What We Do in the Shadows but I've been burned by its many feigns at changing status quo, so I am in a wait-and-see mode for these Abbott changes, even if being in the premiere helps and they already get a lot of fun plots/jokes out of them. Loved that they incorporate the real-world strike having this show start late, by making the in-world story start late too from the documentary crew getting robbed.

I do wish the Semi-Competent Ava phase would have lasted longer for a few more episodes though, as it's both a good character change and getting funny disturbed reactions from the rest of the school, plus it leads to my favorite line of the whole double episodes: "Put your arms away, Jeremy Allen Black. This is a school."

I kinda wouldn’t have minded HAvaRD Ava sticking around for a few more episodes

This show walks such a fine line with Ava, usually striking the right balance. Some of her behavior toward Janine here really rankled, though. Should she really be bagging on someone who works for the district, a position that technically outranks her? It felt very unprofessional in a different and less tolerable way than usual.

I hope the employees working for the district continue to pop up throughout this season. I liked Josh Segarra's energy, and Benjamin Norris eventually became one of the best and most consistently funny parts of Never Have I Ever.

Something about Manny made me feel weird? The way he talked and carried himself was just odd. Like a serial killer emulating normal humans or something :joy:

Not sure about the vibe of this episode. They're chopping and changing a lot which is fair to mix it up but only if it works. The Melissa breakup felt very disjointed. A way to force a storyline change for her maybe? Seemed harsh though

Now, I understand the writer's strike was long - and then once back in the writer's room, there was still the issue of the actor's strike still ongoing...
But this episode was re-hash of different parts of "The Office" - Jim and Pam being separated by distance (and connected-ness). Mike changing things about himself, for someone / something else. Even a failed proposal that goes no where.

I did like how they worked in the months of absence on the air, with the Camera Crew being robbed

An entertaining back-to-back episode to shake things up.
