Abbott Elementary is the Office. perfectly generic, beat for beat, right down to the terrible boss from hell who everybody ends up defending and having affection for because the show is too afraid to be mean. right down to the inspiring speeches to end episodes on a positive note. the only thing that isn’t from the office is the janitor, who is from Scrubs. but still. something nice about having an Office, middlebrow nonsense and all, about an underresourced predominantly black school in philadelphia

What I love about this show is all the characters have their flaws (except for Mr. Johnson, he’s such a legend :joy:) and there are consequences that made them growing (maybe except for Ava, but she grew on me in “step class” and “superintendent” eps). Janine’s perseverance can made the situation worse (such as in “light bulb” or “gifted program” episodes), but that’s because she’s really care about her students, in the balloon scene at the final ep, her perseverance became effective to both hers and Kenny’s growth. Gregory’s deadpan humor and his reaction in the background made me laugh all the time. This is such a comfort show that made me relax and enjoy watching.
