Unlike many others here I have never even heard of the movie with the same title. I found this accidentally through twitter and thought, "huh lesbians and I recognize some actresses so I guess I should watch it". But man, oh man!!! I did not expect to like it this much?? It actually has a good plot which is shocking to be quite honest! Also, people are complaining about it being woke because there are lesbians while so many TV shows have only straight people, and no one bats an eye. C'mon now, let us have one show with lesbian leads! It's still extremely rare to find a show with so many lesbian characters and with lesbian protagonists...
Anyways, this show made me want to learn how to play baseball :^) Great A+++ show, funny as hell, emotional, and still manages to hit some relevant topics about racism, sexism, and homophobia. I truly hope it gets renewed for another season!!

Watched it all in practically one sitting! I love the movie, but this isn’t the movie. Any one caught up on that won’t appreciate this fun show. I wasn’t looking for a retelling of the original movie. So I was delightfully surprised by how much I enjoyed it.

Very much loved that they included black and latina storylines! Something the movie could just nod their cap to without addressing any racial issues.

There was a heavy queer element which for me was amazing. Very much appreciate how many homos played because hello they did.

I think it also highlights the disparity between men and women rights. Like fuck they couldn’t even have bank accounts!!! Not that long ago, damn.

Watch it!

Delightfully queer, warm and charming.
Gut wrenching in a few moments.

Please don't let this be yet another lesbian/wlw show that gets cancelled!!! Especially because it's so good!

I am so happy this show exists. I have always been a huge fan of the movie and when I heard about the plans to make a tv show, I was thrilled. It didn‘t disappoint!

What a far cry from the movie!!! This series was more about the relationships than the baseball. There was to much emphasize on the same sex relationships, which I bet Rosie O'Donnell enjoyed. She was much better as Doris in the movie. The black pitcher storyline was intriguing, but wish she would have been more involded with the Peaches storyline. If there is a second season, I won't be watching. I just found out on Trakt that there was a comedy by the same name in the early 2000's that I might checkout. Bottom Line: The movie is one of my all-time favorites, and I will watch it again soon. If you loved the movie, you will be disappointed with this sereis.

My wife and I got 3 episodes in, realized that there is noting about the movie related to this except they used the same team (Rockford Peaches). The heart, the soul, the point is lost completely in this farce. They could save it, if they made it about baseball and the life these woman led, instead they focused on 2 main lesbian relationships with a shot of baseball here and there.

The other thing, they cast woman who look very similar to those from the movies, then completely omitted the 2 main characters from the show... I mean, wtf...

There's so much to love about this show. The representation is amazing! The writing and acting is really spectacular. I greatly appreciate the deep-dive into the lives of women, especially queer women, and queer women of color. I can't even begin to imagine how difficult many of their lives must have been, to have to live in secret, or live a life of lies, in order to protect oneself. I hope that in coming seasons, they explore more of living in a white supremacist, Christo-fascist society that brought on these hardships for these women.

If i had one critique, it would be that they should lay off the CGI during the baseball scenes. I understand that it's designed to make these women look like professional baseball players, but it's obvious that they can play, b/c you can see it in their movements on the field. It's one thing to use CGI to effect a homerun or some extraordinary play, but in general, each throw didn't need to have CGI behind it. They should simply let these women play ball.

Gayest show I've ever seen. Only one 1 episode was worth watching, and that was the very last one. Glad it's over

[Prime Video] What it does, it does well, but it's not what it promised. The 1992 film is an excuse for a more sentimental than humorous exploration of the queer community in the 40s, but one that has little to do with Penny Marshall's film. The male coach disappears in episode 3 because this is mostly a story of girls. But in the end, Max Chapman's racial plot is more interesting than the Women's Baseball League.
