1923 2022

To anyone looking to start this show, maybe wait for season 2 or 3 to air before watching. Looks like episode 8 was the season 1 finale. Literally nothing resolved. Have to wait a year for next season where I’m sure it will be more of the same with zero resolution. Besides nice scenes of western landscape, really not much in season 1 as they just ended it abruptly as if they ran out of money to continue.

What Taylor touches TV wise turns to gold, must be a phrase Paramount heads whisper left and right.

Another show and looks like another hit. The Dutton is the gift that keeps on giving. If you like Yellowstone and1883, then do miss this one.

LOL...better than this season of Yellowstone so far!

Anything from Taylor Sheridan is always worth checking out, and he rarely disappoints. “1923” is off to a promising start with its premiere. As is customary for works by Sheridan and director Ben Richardson, the show features a strong cast, good screenplay, and gorgeous cinematography.

The romance story with Spencer and his fiance in Africa is cringe worthy. I got so tired of it I just started skipping through most of it which just so happens to be about 90% of the first 3 episodes. The way they tried to glorify killing a fully grown elephant and half a pride of lions without a care in the world in episode 3 didn't sit right with me. So far the "good parts" of this show are almost non existent. I thought this show was about cowboying in Montana? 3 episodes in and the only thing keeping me interested are the scenes in Montana which seem to he few and far between. This show is a disgrace in comparison to 1883 and Yellowstone.

more than 1 season? not worthy. Unnecessary stories: Africa, the sea, the catholic school and escape, the whores. Meanwhile, nothing from the yellowstone ranch

In my opinion, the first episode was all over the place. I didn't find a single character I immediately liked. There's usually an anchoring character that keeps me curious to come back to keep watching. In Yellowstone there are a number of them John, Beth :fire:, Rip etc. That's why Yellowstone is a major hit. In 1883, it was Elsa Dutton throughout.

Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford plays Helen Mirren and Harrison ford, nothing special. The only character who gave me Yellowstone style strong personality vibes was the Native American girl played by Aminah Nieves. I really hope that character arc develops in the coming episodes. Otherwise this will be a challenging watch. :slight_frown:

Like 1883, it begins with the perspective of a bleak narrator. I was so happy when they allowed the narration to be assumed by the aunt’s journaled thoughts. The scenes that followed the young girl in the residential school were so difficult to watch that I eventually fast forwarded through them until her story took a turn. The other story lines were also well written and compelling, although Taylor Sheridan sees life through a very dark lens. The casting in both shows are solid, telling realistic stories through the eyes of youth and age, which is unique in popular media, and which I appreciated, as an older viewer. Once again there were majestically beautiful locations. I’m so glad there will be a second season of this timeline because those stories have just begun to be told. I give this series an 8 (gripping) out of 10. [Western Drama] Available on Paramount+

So much more upbeat and better than 1883 as it follows the Dutton family merely 36 years after landing on Montana as the younger bother of the original John Dutton is now at the helm. The plot and character development is superb as you follow the show on a few different fronts as one main character is making their way home from traveling the world in order to come help save it while a first real threat in the ranch's history is brewing at home. This is a great Segway to Yellowstone.

Season 1 finale is something that comes out of a horse's ass.

[SkyShowtime] It has an interesting triangular narrative approach that addresses issues not very explicit in the movies, such as the horror of boarding schools for native children that were actually places of abuse and deaths by members of the Catholic Church. But the development of the series tends towards a cloying romanticism in the part that takes place in Africa and the subsequent trip, and towards the old-fashioned soap opera in the story that takes place in Wyoming, which ends up leading to especially ridiculous moments.

Can’t quite call episode 8 a finale but it definitely leaves you wondering “what next”. Overall a solid season for me :thumbsup_tone4:

I watched till the end before commenting... I really like this version of Yellowstone.
As long as they don't screw it up, they could make this series last quite a while. BUT it does drag on a bit with not a whole lot happening.

9/10

I guess there were no block people in Montana in 1923.

Harrison isn't the best Dutton and his marriage to Helen is wonkie. Why are all the Dutton wives Blond and have an accent? Strange pairing. The story is about what you'd expect but the weird placement of nudity is strange. The school for Native American girls is a story line that could be it's own show. The placement in 1923 is so far very odd. I'm about half way through the series and I am hoping for it to turn around. I liked 1883 better (until the end.)

Basically 1883 turned up to drama level on par with Yellowstone. Essentially follows the Dutton family 40 years after landing showing that the younger brother of the original Dutton has grown their land into an empire and are now facing their first true threat. Good show, maybe as edge of your seat and fascinating as Yellowstone but would have been nice to have a prequel showing how that empire was built.

I found 1883 worth watching mostly because of Sam Elliot was in it, the same thing can be said about the Ford / Mirren tandem in this one. But why the hell did you bring back that damn voice over ???
