Love it- have it- watch it over and over again. Drew Barrymore has done an amazing job delivering one of the best feel-good movies ever! And of course: it couldn´t have been any one but Ms Page portraying Bliss. Go Pisces!
Enjoyable movie with great acting skills and nice directing debut from Barrymore 7.4/10
A good entertaining cute coming of age story about a young girl looking for a way to escape the beauty pageants her mother is forcing down her throat; and so she finds a way and along the way discovers herself. It is fun, emotional and a good bonding experience with the characters. The casting is good and the plot development with different characters being introduced at the right time make it for a multi-watch film.
Great movie. Would have scored a 10 if it was gayer.. or if Ruthless had told her boyfriend to f*** off instead of having him back.
It is a roller derby movie, Yay! Not like real derby but still fun and great corky characters.
This is sooo great. FEMALES ROCK.
The boy is an ultimate arsehole. I trusted him.
Ellen page, fine actor! she can turn my page any day.. skate on my floor... anyways back to review, remember if you enjoy doing something, and that your good at it, then keep at it, and don't let anyone judge you or tell you to do something different, do something you like, be yourself... unless what you're doing is wrong.. now this film was a skate the park, full of energy, lots of action.. had some funny moments.. mainly women beating up women.. nothing wrong with that eh... i mean what?.. it's got a lot more to skate than that.. also some great cast! 6/10
How do i see the movies???
I was looking forward to this. I could even see the same story working well with a different director or editor, but my god, this movie is just so flat. Every single tiny detail of the plot apparently requires EXPOSITION, not just once but three or four times.
It's so long and drawn out that all the performances feel incredibly wooden. It feels like the director couldn't decide which of three trope-heavy stories to focus on, and would have done better just ditching two of them.
Worst of all, it looked like every moment of actual skating was done on wires, so it didn't even feel like roller derby. It reminds me of something like Blades of Glory, but this movie actually takes itself seriously.
The movie is too long. They should have just toned down the drama in the middle or even thrown out the boyfriend plotline. Other than that it's OK but nothing to write home about.

Whip It is a great mixture of a coming of age story and a sports comedy. There are some aspects of it that are pretty formulaic but the characters are good enough and the film is fun enough to get you through the hurtle. Ellen Page anchors the whole film with a performance that is just as good as her effort in Juno and Kristen Wiig and Marcia Gay Harden are awesome too. I would like to see Drew Barrymore take another directing job because this is a very underrated movie.
PS. Jimmy Fallon has the best role of his career in this movie. Fallon alone is a reason to watch Whip It.
