This is the film that marked the end of the disaster genre in theaters, no thanks to producer Irwin Allen, & thus crappy disaster films such as this are now straight-to-DVD or maybe only on streaming, TV movies, & usually also appear on TV in Spanish. Paul Newman said this film was so damn awful he admitted he did it only for the money. On the bright side, it did kick-start his food franchise. The special effects looked also as hideous and laughable as those in a "Superman" movie from the same decade.
