This is a very slow, boring movie, full of too many characters. The story centers around a disgraced detective, but there is not enough time devoted to his journey to care about where he came from or where his is going. The movie focuses way too long on... Surfer Girl - really, was that her name? She does voiceover throughout the movie, even after she dies in the second act. Why? Her character could have been cut out of the movie and it would not have mattered. Wetlands is less a movie and more a long episode of some television crime drama. There was just, simply put, no story here. Every part of this film feels like it was taken from a book, and the movie just couldn't squeeze in the necessary parts to make it work within the runtime. Okay, so the only reason I watched this is because of Lauren LaVera. I am not completely sure where she was, but I think it was in the hotel room, during the second act. I think that was her on the floor, naked, high on heroin. Never got a good look at her face, and she may as well have not been in the scene. What a letdown. Seriously a blink-and-you'll-miss-it part. The ending was weak. The acting was good, but there was just no story here. I never cared, for a moment, what was happening.
A mess of a movie, but despite the weak narrative and unconvincing dialogue, it is still strangely watchable. That may be down to Adewale himself, who holds the screen, despite being shortchanged with this broken movie.
