V/H/S: Viral 2014

if you like VHS1 and 2 you better stay away from this one.... I only ask one think: WHY...

This was bad... Really bad, what a waste of time.

WTF?!? I wasted about 80 minutes of my life...

I ate spicy fried chicken and mashed potatoes while watching this. The fried chicken was all that I enjoyed during that 84-minute spam of time.

Didn't really get the ending to this one. ...

3 Thoughts After Watching ‘V/H/S: Viral’:

  1. Wow, that was absurd. Where V/H/S/2 improved upon the franchise’s formula, this third entry completely obliterates it. This isn’t a found footage anthology. This is a mess.

  2. That whole party scene, where the dog gets impaled by a fork yet is seemingly unaffected, is particularly and pointlessly ridiculous.

  3. The ONLY thing that showed any semblance of promise was the parallel universe segment. There was an inkling of cohesive creativity there.

Shitty writing, shitty acting, shitty practical effects, shitty soundmixing, shitty... (do I need to continue?)

The only short with a bit of promise was the guy trying to open some sort of portal/doorway. Everything else was total garbage.
Not a scary/creepy moment in this movie at all.

BELIEVE THE COMMENTS HERE AND SKIP!
Overcome your OCD and just skip to the next V/H/S movie.

And now, on to V/H/S/94 which seems to have a lot better reviews.

I hate to say it but VHS Viral is a subpar final effort into the series. Where as I enjoyed at least one segment greatly in the previous movies this isn't the case here.
The wrap-around this time is easily the worst of them and ran it into the ground. They handle what ever idea they had very poorly and even have useless filler in it and don't get me started on the silly ending!
Anyways, the first actual tape wasn't my cup of tea and another waste of concept. They also fail to keep it pure found footage.
The segment from Nacho Vigalondo (who is probably the most acclaimed of the directors here) is a more nasty twist on his Timecrimes. If you wondered where the sci-fi footage for 'Open Windows' was made, look no further. Coming out as the best entry it's still nothing to write home about and gets a tad bit too far into kitsch territory (at least the effect works makes it so).
Closing out the collection is a GoPro PoV skate movie set in Tijuana where hell breaks loose. Unfortunatley it overstays it's welcome and doesn't really do much. Given how great Benson and Moorhead's Resolution was it's certainly a bummer.

All Short Movies Ranked: 2.3/5

Dante the Great: 2.5/5
Parallel Monsters: 3/5
Bonestorm: 2.5/5
Vicious Circles: 1.5/5

I know the whole found footage trope here makes no sense with multiple camera angles and what not, but on its own, I think I enjoyed the skateboarders sequence the most, out of all the films.

A lot better than VHS 1 but still average at best. VHS 2 is the one to watch.

You either quit while you're still the shit, or your franchise will live long enough to be seen as shit.

Radically departing from the series format, V/H/S: Viral is an inexplicable mess that’s appallingly bad. The film doesn’t follow its own rules, as a lot of the videos don’t conform to the conventions of found footage (and some of the videos aren’t even found footage). And this might be excusable if the videos were any good, but most of them aren’t. V/H/S: Viral doesn’t know what it’s doing, and ends up turning out garbage.

Compilation films of this type have always been hit and miss, but surprisingly, this is a decent effort that (despite the other comments on this page) is better than most. The VHS connection is tenuous, but that's the only real fault here.

loading replies

It’s not great, but it’s still something, also out of all 3, vhs 2 is the best.

I didn't know that a collection of people could try so hard, yet fail so hard. I cannot take back the time wasted on this garbage movie.

The worst of the three movies , there is much less fear than before, although the first ( Dante) and the second ( Vigalondo ) are original, but the latter is a real waste, the segment that begins and ends is idiot

loading replies

Not bad, i enjoyed it. Weren't as good as the second one though. Bonestorm was my favourite segment :)
