The title of the film is wrong, it should be called "80s Wokist Review".
Okay so this was definitely a very fun and enjoyable slasher movie, but seriously… the way I would have just peaced out of there so quick if I were Jamie and let them all die cus they genuinely sucked so much at first:sob::sob:
In the end I really loved the parents though, so I’m happy she saved her mom this way <3
This was decent fun, in a similar vein to Happy Death Day and The Final Girl. The joke gets a little long in the tooth after a while but it never stops being enjoyable and lighthearted. Good fun, and I like this trend of taking older film premises and putting a horror spin on them. If Happy Death Day was the horrification of Groundhog Day, this is the horrification of Back to the Future. Not bad at all.
So this is all that forced wokeness the right wingers cry about.
Of course the picky people on this site who love throwing stuff a 1 out of 10 or 2 out of 10. Threw this either a 1 out of 10 and 2 out of 10 lol.
Come on, this isn’t a Happy Madison movie or a bad a spoof movie noir is half the stuff you hate on here.
I like comedy horror movies that throw in stuff like being stuck in a Horror movie, living the same day over and over again or switching bodies. Now there’s a time travel horror movie, count me in.
This captures how an overly privileged child of this generation would react to being stuck in the 80’s. Yes gym class dodgeball was pretty much like that lol.
very very weak plot combined with a main character who goes out of her way to make stupid woke statements every possible chance she gets
Honestly, this could’ve been a banger if it was given to the team behind Bodies, Bodies, Bodies, or just a real filmmaker. It’s a great idea that deserved better than the cheap streaming treatment. This is very poorly made (really bland, uninspired cinematography; multiple cheap looking camera affects; the horror elements are tame and undercooked), incompetently written (no tonal control or proper focus; clunky exposition; too much unnecessary melodrama) and the acting styles are all over the place. It’s also another one of those recent comedies where I find almost every character annoying and too hysterical, which (from what I can tell) is not always intentional. Is this just what people find funny nowadays? There’s so little bite or edge that I’d probably find it even more lame if I were the same age as the target demographic. Granted, it does have a few good observations about all the different ways a zoomer would be triggered by 80s culture (overt racism, sexism, etc.), but for every sharp moment there are twice as many lazy references to the same pop culture artifacts found in every other movie banking on 80s nostalgia. Maybe it should’ve looked a little further ahead for inspiration, as I’ve always found Scream to be the bar when it comes to horror comedies primarily aimed at teenagers. This isn’t even remotely close to approaching that level, instead this feels like an 80s slasher/Back to the Future mashup watered down for a Disney channel audience.
2/10
I absolutely enjoyed this for what it was, a fun little slasher time travel movie, anyone taking this more seriously than that has issues and probably should stop watching movies and stick to cartoons (I'm talking to all the 1-3 rating reviewers).
The acting was fine, the cinematography was fine, the editing could've been better but overall it was a decent horror/comedy flick.
I simply don't understand why people just can't enjoy what's in front of them and have to compare unnecessarily, this film was ok from start to finish and even had a decent ending.
How many other time travel slasher movies are there out there ? not many at all, if at all, there's nothing comparable, just review it for what it is or f*c* off
I'm a sucker for time travel, so the premise here was enough to coast on, but the execution was only serviceable. A little too tongue-in-cheek for my tastes. While they don't quite break the fourth wall, the constant meta references and the film's self-awareness of its place in the time travel genre just feels played out, almost leaning on it as an excuse to cut corners and not offer anything particularly fresh (the biggest hand wave of all is the science fair origins of the time travel device itself, which feels like something out of a Disney original, rather than an R-rated horror comedy). The main source of humor is the clash of a modern teen in 1987. While that set-up has potential, the execution feels superficial, with the jokes mostly being obvious and on-the-nose. The actual slasher/horror moments definitely don't bring anything new to the table and there's some noticeably cheap production that distracts in some of those moments.
By no means will this be a movie you will love but it will be a one of those funny and silly “horror” spoof movies that you will find amusing.
... Genuinely really bad. The script is mediocre, most of the acting was bland and literally none of the time travel makes any sense and is full of plot holes. But, I will give props for the use of the Mandela effect, I don't think I've seen that used in reference to time travel.
I feel like there was definitely potential here and there were parts I liked, but it just didn't hit the mark at all. 4.5/10
Any time travel movie that does not attempt to force time travel to "make sense" (which is literally impossible) gets an extra point from me.
It was a weird one. Slasher and time-travel usually don't collide in movies; and it is hard to pull off, in my opinion. And Totally Killer didn't reach the mark for me. For the time-travel part, everything is explained extremely loosely. I mean, it starts as a usual slasher movie and suddenly a "when are you going to tell everybody you are building a time machine" line is dropped like is nothing. For the slasher part, it wasn't bad, but it wasn't great neither. The time travel ingredient gave it a bit a of a twist, but that's it. For the rest of the plot, nothing fancy; it just developes as a normal one with mentions here and there that really don't change the gauge. The humour didn't catch up with me, especially since most of it was woke or politically-correct oriented; so for me those moments were more of a roll of eyes than a laugh. Acting is medium, nothing to talk about. Also, some shots (especially head shots) were filmed weirdly, like they recorded it in different occasions and then patch them all up for the final cut. It's a minor thing but it bothered me more than it should. A 6 and i'm being generous because of Kiernan
Starts off okay but loses it's way hard by the end of the film, especially with how loosy-goosey it plays with time travel. Cast is good though.
The main character also spends ten minutes of the film, being woke and pointing out how much people in the 80s sucked.
Also, why didn't the main character just turn her phone off to conserve battery? She didn't need it.

So much potential so poorly executed. This was a really missed opportunity for a cult movie.
The idea was perfect, i love these kind of tie travel madness but it comes flat in term of script, laughs and points.
Did we need to have all the comments about how awfull 80s were because of woke reasons ? Double the awfull joke about mom-momassita, first time was not funny why repeat it ?
Also i will not try to be accurate about "time travel" but this was a mess. What happen to the original killer on the original timeline ? how he got there, how he went there (you will undestand if you saw the movie). A lot of stuff didn't make sense.
Very Poorly executed.
Bad scifi, worst slasher movie. Full of Mary Sue and It Is full of woke media.
Bad comedy, bad acting, bad writing, and an unnecessary shove down your throat of how "unwoke" any time before 2020 was.
This is a surprisingly enjoyable killer movie that follows the recent trend of using time travel in some way. However, that's not to say it took away from the movie, rather it was able to put a unique spin on a genre we;ve seen many times. Not everything was perfect, but if you're looking for a movie to watch leisurely, then this is the one.
A decent premise that is completely squandered and lazily written. The humor seemed like first draft stuff. Really surprised at some of the love on this app which either shows how unserious everyone is here or the allure of a free screening.
Watch Final Girls instead
3 Thoughts After Watching ‘Totally Killer’:
This movie epitomizes the need to suspend your disbelief. At first, I was unimpressed by a solid amount of nonsense, plot holes, and the production value of a Hallmark movie-of-the-week… and all of that never really went away lol… but when I started to lean into this as more of a fun comedy, than anything that should be taken seriously, I actually enjoyed it!
I think it was the ending that won me over. There were definitely some clever ideas here, and I can’t say I saw any of it coming… maybe a little of it… but all-in-all it left a good impression on me. And I would totally be interested in a sequel.
Kiernan Shipka had some awesome comedic timing in this. Her commentary on the lack of any sense of “political correctness” or sense of urgency in the 80s was pretty funny.
I had a lot of fun with this one and I think the way they did time travel works perfectly fine. If you go back, change something and it causes you to stop existing you wouldn't be able to make the change in the first place. The Marvel solution fixes this too but is just kind of BS and makes time travel almost pointless. The DC solution... they were on something. Totally Killer hits a nice sweet spot for practicality, simplicity and versatility. I'd love a sequel or spin off.
Fun enough for me to want to rewatch occasionally.
An interesting combination of time travel, slasher and misunderstanding of the 80's by the current generation. ;)
Back to the Future meets Scream in this comedy, sci-fi, slasher about a teenage girl who travels back in time to stop a serial killer that has been terrorizing her parents' friend group since they were in high school. It is absolutely hilarious to see a gen Z-er navigate the 80s and to see a visual representation of the Mandela effect in real time. It wasn't perfect, but damn was it fun.
Dumb in some points but funny in other parts.I didn't like the cast much and the story was ok 6.0/10 just watch it if you have nothing better to see with your brain off and with no expectations.
Decent movie, it's got humour and an alright plot with an average script.
This was actually a good movie. Do not overthink when watching. Just enjoy! Happy 2024!
While a quality movie that went straight to Prime, it is a bit cheesy and not as good as many of the counterparts that it is spoofing. It was a good time, though! Go in open minded and just enjoy it for what it is!
Rating: 3/5 - 75% - Worth Watching
This was a fun comedy horror and thriller. Kinda like a high breed of “Scream” and “Back To The Future”. It wasn’t super hilarious type funny but it was entertaining.
I could have sworn this was a Netflix production.
A good slasher comedy ruined by PC dialogue.
What's up with all this PC dialogue? Looks like someone's annotated comments on the screenplay have been included in the dialogue.
I mean, how do you explain that?
-Who's Fat Trish? Also, you can't call her that.
-Did you just want to lez out this weekend?
-Gross! ... not your comment was gross. Gay people are amazing.
If you ignore that, it's a good movie with a few funny lines, and it's almost impossible to guess the identity of the killer.
6 minus 1 because of this weird "pc-ness"
This movie is a fusion of back to the future meets scream. Both movies are referenced by Kiernan her character, so it seems on purpose.
Don't set your expectations too high with some highly intelligent movie, it's just a fun piece of nonsense that does not take itself too serious.
Enjoyable enough.
The script and the story overall was not bad, the horror aspect was also quite good. I enjoyed the movie overall, except when the main character was talking. She is pure cringe, and really hard to take seriously. Also, her acting was quite mediocre. At least the supporting cast was better, even though casting 25+ year-olds to play 16 year old high schoolers was not the best idea.
Wow, what's with the low ratings? It was fun! I was thoroughly entertained.
For this Halloween, I thought I’d dip into a genre I usually avoid (as a card carrying scaredy-cat). From what I gathered from the publicity it was more a tongue in cheek comedy than true horror, so I thought it a safe choice. Yes, there is a lot of blood, but not much terror. What it does have is some very clever lampooning of ‘80s and ‘23 culture while bouncing off a SciFi trope. I give this film a 7 (light hearted gag) out of 10. [Comedic Horror]
The woke, cringe comments spoil this movie.
Honestly, this was a lot better than I expected. Some moments are a little cringy, but all in all it's decently fun, and they deal with the time travel paradox problem in a decent and fun way.
Boogieman becomes last year of his life Michael Jackson
everyone is getting offended that they are making fun of the 80s, it is a comedy/mild horror flick get a grip. I thought it was thoroughly entertaining and as messy as time travelling movies get. worth a watch!
I liked this one! Alot! As a Being who is into cheese, cringe of awkward 80's pop culture stuff then you might enjoy a few things in this film... Think like Back to the Future had a baby with Scream. I sure as heck enjoedy this flick, goin' in blind and I didn't even see the trailer, I just read about it on Amazon.
If you mix Scream and Back to the Future...
It has the properties of a fun, campy , slasher movie but lacked soul.
I see Max Headroom is a slasher now, man time really changes people.
"Totally Killer" takes a bold step by blending horror with elements of time travel, and it has its moments of ingenuity. Drawing inspiration from classics like "Back to the Future," the film crafts a unique narrative within the horror comedy genre. While it's not without its flaws, particularly in the dialogue department, it manages to entertain with clever references and a slasher storyline that keeps you engaged. The time-traveling fish-out-of-water concept adds humor and tension, and there are some genuinely funny moments.
However, the dialogue, at times, feels forced and unnatural, hindering the overall experience. With some script refinement, this could have been a great horror comedy. As it stands, it's a fun rental for a night of laughs and thrills but falls short of becoming a Halloween classic. A C+ or 68% rating seems fair, and it's worth revisiting alongside other imperfect yet enjoyable horror comedies like "Hubie Halloween."
If you like movies like "Happy Death Day" or "Freaky", you should probably also give "Totally Killer" a chance. Like the two examples mentioned, it's a slasher with some black humor and science fiction elements. And like in "Happy Death Day", time plays a crucial role in the plot. You shouldn't necessarily expect everything in the film to make sense or for the characters to have any real depth. But I would still describe this film as good, if somewhat shallow, entertainment.
Kiernan Shipka definitely works quite well as the lead. At the very least, it is fun to follow her in her efforts to stop the murders. The overall focus is more on the humor, but there are definitely some spikes of violence. I wasn't disappointed by the resolution either, although it was perhaps a bit too predictable. On a technical level, "Totally Killer" is certainly not a masterpiece, but at least the production is competent. I certainly don't expect much more from a streaming movie of this kind.
I LOVED this movie. It’s okay, judge me. It was the perfect Halloweeny movie for me. Silly horror with a sci fi flavor. I thought it was hysterical. Also what a great cast. I’d definitely watch again and again.
What a creative horror/thrasher film as it follows a killer in a small town that emerges after a 35 year hiatus and in order to catch the killer the daughter of one of the victims accidentally travels back in time and tries to stop the killer before it all happens. The plot development and characters are good. It hooks you right in as it doesn’t stall much before diving right into the meat of the story but not too quickly. It’s gruesome yet entertaining but kind of without that terrifying turn the lights on vibe more like a dark humor vibe.
Like sunglasses in a movie theater, cool but forgettable.
After Happy Death Day (a horror remake of Groundhog Day) and Freaky (a horror remake of Freaky Friday), we now have Totally Killer, a horror remake of Back to the Future.
If the filmmakers had stopped asking "Why not?" long enough to ask "Why?" then maybe this film could've fulfilled its potential. As it is, at least the cast -- led by Kiernan Shipka -- makes the project more enjoyable than the writers would have had it.
This is what you get when you mix a network sitcom and a horror movie. It was watchable mostly for the lead.
Not great but fun to watch
A fun little horror comedy w a dash of time travel. Doesn't take itself too seriously, but also has bite. Shipka does a nice job with it. 7.4
it's hard to take the killer serious when it looks like he took a pill in Ibiza... but it's still worth a watch
Hot tub time machine meets Scream. Not as funny but this franchise has potential. It's a doable one time watch with some heavy smirks but I hope they make a sequel that really uses the goldmine they've stumbled on.
"If she did blowjobs, she'd still be alive."
But seriously this is a watch and forget movie, I literally finished it and that quote is all I remember.
the back to the futurification of Happy Death Day
This doesn't hold up all the way to the end but for the most part, it's an entertaining time travel-slasher movie that genre fans should enjoy.
I love the idea, never knew I needed a time travel slasher so much in my life. Now is it the best it could have been and did they do justice to this great premise? At times yes but ultimately not really. It's certainly not the worst it could have been but a better director would have made this a cult classic.
It's dumb horror comedy with a sci-fi twist that'll give you the impression like it's trying to be smart but anyone expecting something smart is going to hit a brick wall with this one. It's nothing we haven't seen already with time travel and it stayed pretty simplistic with the time travel twist/reveal in the third act. I wish it was more complicated and memorable. It's also lacking in logic and continuity.
I like that it took a laugh at both time periods. Two extremes. The jokes on that are simplistic but I laughed a few times. The younger versions of the characters were all unlikable which made them hard to root for. Cliché characters, good acting. My impression of the Sweet 16 Killer is left very one-dimensional once the movie ended. The chase sequences with the killer are the highlights, especially the first one. Edge-of-your-seat stuff. The middle part had no killer in sight for a while which brought it down.
Really enjoyed the set piece for the third act even though nothing of the special gravitationnal rules were applied on-screen. Overall had some fun but could have been way better!
:heart:x8
This was a heck of a lot of fun. Instead of preaching social issues at us - they made a whole lot of fun with them instead. The ending of course, has a twist, not sure it was the greatest twist ever, but it certainly was a bit of a surprise.
How I rate:
1-3  = seriously! don't waste your time
4-6  = you may or may not enjoy this
7-8  = I expect you will like this too
9-10  = movies and TV shows I really love!

Bad as horror, bad as comedy, bad as time-travel.
Just bad.
