In the history of sport, golf is the most boring. Played by boring men with boring tweed outfits and boring beards, these boring players bored everybody with boring tales of their golfing prowess during the most boring parts of the 19th and 20th centuries.
Needless to say, I am not a golfing fan, partly because I am useless at the game!
And yet, while the film is below par for my tastes, it's not as boring as I expected. In fact, Tommy himself, in the face of the boring higher classes, is not at all a boring man. By the film's end, his story touched my heart. So here's to you Tommy Morris, a hot toddy in my hand, honouring you for turning a boring sport into something worth watching.
