What can I say about Titanic. It is is the ultimate love story, the basis for all romance. It is beautiful and heartbreaking all at the same time. The saddest part is thinking about all those people in real life who lost their lives that day.
It's a good romantic movie. It's an even better disaster movie. Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet are just perfect together. My Heart will go on is a great song too and I still get chills from it.

I finally get what all the fuss was about.
I got to see it in theaters (in 3D, but it's not like that matters these days), and it was an awesome experience in every sense of the word. For starters, I had no idea the entire movie was framed around a semi-fictional deep-dive to the remains of the Titanic, and the movie proper didn't start until around 15-20 minutes in.
I can hardly remember the last time I felt like this while watching a movie: a thousand thoughts about the technical craft flew through my mind, yet I was totally engrossed in the story. And what a story it is. I had a lovely short conversation with an older couple as we were leaving the theater. The woman called it a classic and one of the greatest love stories, and that I should bring my girlfriend next time instead of seeing it alone. It almost feels like a Disney love story when you step back. A wealthy girl falls in love with a poor but bright boy over the course of one day. Big Aladdin vibes. But with the impending tragedy looming, the simple love story works in the movie's favour. In fact, its forthcoming doom hangs over every part of the movie. Every passenger the camera moved over, every child, could be doomed to die in the end. I was so immersed, my brain chose not to see it as fiction, and it terrified me. The entire third act of the movie where the ship sinks had me so tense watching people move from confusion to denial, and denial to panic, and panic to chaos. It terrified me, and shook me to my core.
Even so, this movie has some excellent moments of levity. The dialogue is so well-written and performed with such excellence. Every member of the cast absolutely killed it. From Billy Zane's caricature of a posh man to the more intimate performances of DiCaprio and Winslet, and even the extras, they all did an amazing job. Also, it would be a crime not to even briefly mention that this movie not only has the best pacing I've seen in a 3+ hour long movie, but some of the best pacing I've ever seen in a movie, period.
And to cap it all off, My Heart Will Go On was the perfect song to play over the credits as I collected my thoughts after that wonderful, thrilling, magical movie. Absolutely fantastic, it is.

Love story ewwwwwwww, ship wreck yayyyyyyyyyy
Everyone knows the story of Titanic and to see it played out to exactly what happened on that night (more or less) is great. The visual effects are breathtaking. I really enjoy the love story between Rose and Jack as well as the story arc of Brock Lovett searching for the diamond in the wreck of Titanic. I think that worked really well instead of just a story set in 1912. James Cameron is an amazing writer, director and filmmaker.
A bad movie can be enjoyable if it has a good score but a great movie is fantastic when the score is good. James Horner's score for this movie is amazing and infact, it is my favourite movie score of all time. I have watched this movie dozens of times in the past and I'm sure I will watch it dozens more in the future!
I still remember how skeptical I was when I went into the cinema back in 1998. I mean, you already knew what will happen, what story is there to tell, right ? Boy was I wrong.
Because I also remember how absolutely amazed I was, how the movie took me in, how I experienced the sinking of the ship, how I cried and how I still sat in my chair long after the credits were over.
And even after 25 years the movie still gets to me, invoking all the emotions I had the first time. It's a masterpiece in every regard. Eleven Oscars, but none for the actors. Which I still think is wrong. Even with all the technical stuff deservedly getting an award, you don't have a movie without the actors. They are the ones bringing in the emotion through their performances.
Technically this still stands it's grounds. Sure you see the CGI is dated but it's still very good. Even in HD which brings in so much more details of the sets and costumes.
It's a movie I can watch every couple of years and never feel bored.
I just watched the remastered version in IMAX 3D and HOLY SHIP it was good. It's like experiencing the movie for the very first time again.
Upscaling is amazing, picture quality is crisp, even on a gigantic IMAX-screen, 3D is not too overwhelming, just adds some nice depth, and the sound with Dolby Atmos.. just wow!
If you get a chance to see this on a proper screen and are thinking to yourself "but I've already seen it a hundred times" - No, you have not. You have never seen this movie like this, period.

The 2012 3D Titanic IMAX screening was the absolute best movie session of my life.
I feel like I am gaining more of an appreciation for this movie as James Cameron does genuinely care about this event and the last 30 minutes of this film is cinematic history in my opinion. Also, I understand why they needed the romance as it helps to introduce you to the real people who were in this event and though I find the romance very boring I find it unharmful and it does help to make the movie more emotionally impactful if you don't know much about the event.
But this film is way too long for what it is and it wastes so much time with the love story, I have to say visually it is still amazing and though I class it as one of James Camerons worst films it would be classed as a lot of directors best films. For sure give it a watch but I feel like you should research the event a little before you do, also watch the documentary that James Cameron did on this event on Disney+ / National Geographic.

Man, I know this wasn't underrated by any stretch of the imagination (massive box office blockbuster and, until 2004, only the second movie to win 11 Oscars), but Titanic being relegated to "chick flick" status almost immediately post-release had me avoiding it until my late teens when I finally saw it and thought, "Holy shit, this was incredible." All the practical effects and CGI are still impressive, 27 years later.
I really wish I had watched this in theaters instead of believing it was just a cheesy chick flick.

I just rewatched the movie (for the umpteenth time) and this time somehow I only (ugly) cried at the very last scene... that's a win for me.
I had to change my rating for this movie from a 7 to a 10 because it may be one of the best movies ever made (and I dunno why I gave it a 7 before?).
One of the greatest movies that I have ever seen. While it's cliched and is very white cis heteronormative, the love that is displayed is extremely relatable and represents everything that true love really is, where you will go beyond any possible lengths to avoid leaving your love behind. It was also one of the best disaster films I've seen, as it was able to get the fine balance between showing the enormity of tragedy whilst maintaining the human aspect, and the feelings and actions taken by those faced with the most dire choices known to mankind
This is really good ship
I'll be frank. I don't like this movie. I don't know if it's because I associate it with busted recorder solos of "My Heart Will Go On" performed by children or if it the film itself is just too damn long. There is nothing wrong with the film, the first half is a decent romance exploring themes of class and social role, and the second half is an exciting disaster film with a tragic ending. The casting and world building are exquisite. Indeed, Billy Zane does such a good job of being the antagonist Calander Hockley it might have ruined his career. The early 90s can almost be characterised by Leonardo Dicaprio inspiring teenage girls to kill themselves, in this case, purely from Rose's reckless behaviour in her efforts to rescue Jack. Seriously let the damn man on the door if he matters so much, or at least get him a life jacket. Regardless of its plot holes or sheer length, it's still deserving of being a film you have to watch once in your life. Even if you don't like it.

Although Titanic is seen to be the biggest cliche, and there's a nonsense stigma around that you're not a 'true' movie lover if you call Titanic you're favourite film, here's my take on it...
This film was waaay before it's time, the visuals, the directing, the casting, the production.. All of it is immensely professional and well thought out for the era it was filmed in, heck, you struggle to find something that flows so well, 20 years later. I don't know another 3 and a half hour movie that joins together, is constantly surpising and dramatic yet hopeful in the way that Titanic is.
Need I mention how amazing Leonardo and Kate are? Still some of the best acting I have seen to date.
It's unfair to just see this film as 'Titanic' something that everybody knows... This film is a masterpiece. The attention to small detail, the character development, the fiction within non-fiction, the way it takes over your emotions and pulls on your heartstrings, leaving you broken yet hopeful.
I truly appreciate this film for everything it is and cannot fault it. Although I must say (THERE WAS ROOM FOR TWO!!!)
Watching this amazing movie on the 21st anniversary of the release,I remember being at the midnight screening at the opening in Sydney of this amazing movie,and 21 years later it's as good as seeing it for the first time,James Cameron did an amazing job with this movie,one of my all time favourite movies....
To this date still an absolute masterpiece of a film. The visuals, the casting, the story, the music, everything fits together perfectly. And you never would have thought you just watched a three hour film. That‘s how good it is.

There's more Drama & Romance
Cameron has written far better scripts prior to this and there is some pretty awful dialogue here. Whilst Billy Zane for example is saddled with a terrible character which he struggles to improve, fortunately Winslet and DiCaprio manage to rise above the script and their chemistry together is enough to carry the first half of the film, which also explores what life would have been like on the ship and is beautifully shot. Once the iceberg hits, Cameron is able to play to his strengths and creates a compelling vision of rising panic and building tension, and the film demands to be seen on the biggest screen possible. The decision to build practical sets and blend CGI sparingly means the visual effects still hold up today, and Cameron is a master of editing action sequences. Now in 3D, this is also one of the best converted films to date.

The Scene That Changed The Movie For Me: Rose Dreams Of The Titanic
Since I find 9/10 and 10/10 to be "high value" ratings, I scarcely assign them to movies. But Titanic is special. There is a moment in this movie where dying Rose dreams of entering the dining floor, everyone who's died looking at her, and her going up the stairs to meet Jack, kissing him, and everyone around applauding them. During it, there's this music, which resembles the chorus of "My Heart Will Go On". It's like I'm grieving the loss of titanic victims. That music, and how it complements the scene gave me chills. For that reason, this movie surpasses the rating of 8/10.
Opening
In the presence of many obstacles, whether it be Cal, the sinking titanic, and men with guns, nothing could break this couple apart. James Cameron's Titanic was the first film to gross over 1 billion dollars in worldwide box office gross. Upon watching Titanic, I could think nothing but "yeah I can see why". Titanic's simple spectacle, its fusion of romance and disaster. The trope of starting in present day, and listening to an Elderly person telling a story, being the movie, before cutting back to present day. The movie was exactly as I remembered it from childhood. Whether it be Jack saving Rose, the "I'm flying, Jack, I'm flying" scene, Jack painting Rose naked, and the sex in a car. Everything that could've possibly happened that night on April 1912 enacted in a movie. Woah, this is great.
Its Use Of Present Day and 1912
Right off the bat, it's so interesting seeing the ship, the mirror, the drawing during Present Day before seeing it all in the Past. Brock Lovett seems to be the protagonist from the beginning, searching for some treasure to make money. But as it happens, the real treasure is the story itself. What Women Want and the Fantasy of Jack Dawson
Rose is the protagonist. Her fiancee doesn't love her - in fact he manages her. Rose has been told what to do her entire life, having to live up to everyone's standards. Her life isn't free - it's shaped by expectations. Jack Dawson is pure beauty. He's a woman's fantasy of a perfect man. He's young, handsome, encouraging, reassuring, spontaneous, creative, resilient, and free. Through him, she freed herself from a world of obligation. By watching Titanic, you dip into a woman's perspective on how men should behave. Cal is a negative example of men's behavior. He's controlling, possessive, and does things only for the benefit of himself. In that case, we dip into a teenage girl's point-of-view of what makes beautiful men so beautiful.
Combining a Romance with a 1912 Disaster
On paper, the idea of fusing a romance drama with a real-life tragic event sounds absurd. As it turns out, it was perfect. The sentiments of "my heart will go on", "nothing on earth could come between them" and "i won't let go" directly die to the resilience of Rose (and Jack). In that case, a 1912 Disaster is probably the greatest tragic event before 1997 that could've shown just how resilient Rose was. Also, this fusion is just enjoyable. It hit the right spot for me.
The Sinking of the Titanic
Watching the Titanic sink was a daunting experience. The lights shutting off gave me chills. So did the floating frozen corpses. The musicians playing until the titanic sank. Jack's body sinking into the water. The men pushing against the "only women and children" protocol. How each and every person dies feels really heartfelt. Wow, the humanity in this movie.

Sure, this is super distasteful and schmaltzy in many ways. It’s way longer than it needs to be, it’s tropey and predictable, the Celine Dion needle drop is the epitome of kitsch, it’s emotionally overblown in that typical way the general audience loves, etc.. However, you still have to admire the technical craft on display here, it looks and sounds super impressive to this day. The actors do a lot to elevate the subpar writing, and once the film gets going in the second half it’s certainly engaging. It’s just not great overall, and its universal acclaim I find to be pretty funny.

26 years later and it remains the most epic romantic tale of all time! Yes, it is long. No, it is far from my favorite James Cameron. But if you appreciate cinema, this is a must see regardless of your preference.

I couldn't care less about Jack or the love story. This movie is about Rose's story, a woman overcoming it all: surviving an abusive parent, an abusive fiancé, and somehow surviving the Titanic.

Also, the level of detail in the costuming and set recreations is exceptional, and James Horner’s score is tremendously evocative, featuring Celtic, ethereal tones that are remarkably resonant. Delivering an unforgettable experience, Titanic stays with the audience long after the credits roll.
