Time Bandits 1981

Kind of a shame really, because I was hoping for a lot more. I didn't think this movie sucked, but it just really has some waves of interest. The sequence with Robin Hood was hillarious and great from start to end. But they you get into a sequence on a boat with beauty and the beast which is pretty boring. Here's a intro to a crazy funny villian, and then we get another boring scene on a boat.

I really thought I'd be in for something awesome based on reviews and talk. I don't know where that came from. Was this just because of when it came out or something? Who knows. I'd just say give it a watch if you're super into Terry Gilliam, or if you are looking for something to fill the screen while you're doing your taxes.

This movie FREAKED ME THE HELL OUT as a kid. I mean, come on, his parents being barbecued? The guys coming out of your bedroom wall? Wow.

Childhood trauma aside, it's a great movie. Classic Terry Gilliam.

By all means bad movie, i understand its background and the whole ten yards but it was barely watchable

What a wonderful, imaginative film. Just saw it for the first time but I can see it being a favorite amongst people that grew up watching it on TV. And an influence for filmmakers in the adventure/fantasy/animation genres.

Children's adventure movie meets Bill and Ted and both have a threesome with Terry Gilliam and out comes Time Bandits.
In a nutshell, a group of thieves, on their raid through time, stop by a boy's nursery and take him on a wild journey through time. This is possible because they have a map on which the time holes are listed, which they have stolen from God at the creation of the universe and the devil is of course also there.

How it all fits together is something you should see for yourself.

This is classic Terry Gilliam. I love the way he comes up with his characters, and I love the nostalgic 80’s style graphics.

Man, to be a kid again and watch it with that kind of fresh eyes. Just a good movie.

I remember the first time I saw this as a kid late one night and being blown away by it even at a young age. Having viewed it many times since, it has become one of my favourites. Gilliams best movie in my opinion.

The bit where Kevin looks up Napoleon’s sleeve after his fake hand is stolen is such a small moment, but it just speaks volumes to the level of detail - behavioural or visual - that Gilliam’s sensibilities bring to this movie. No other director would do that.

Another great entry by Gilliam, I feel if I watched this when I was 12 I would have been freaked out by it, watching it for the first time now, I can see this as a bit of a mix in terms of strength of segments.

Still, if you're a big fan of Terry Gilliam, you've probably already seen this therefore this review is pointless to you. If you haven't give it a go.
