Fans of Jim Cummings previous films will enjoy this - it's shot through with his trademark sense of humour, and the narrative is anything but predictable. Rest in peace Robert Forster, you will be missed.
Did not finish.
I made it halfway through before calling it quits. It isn't terrible but, as a horror comedy, it has to be funny and I just didn't find it all that funny. I haven't seen anything else from Jim Cummings so maybe this is his style but it's not for me. I would say if you like campy or comedic horror than you might like this but it's not a guarantee.
Cheesy movie with only a few good actors and jim cummings gave some of the worst performances I’ve ever seen
What a stupid movie... Not at all what I expected. Weird movie, weird humor and the guy reminded me of a bad version of Jim Carrey
Wasted 1.24:43 of my life
Was not so bad at first i hated John Marshall but later he was ok.
Sad it was no a real werewolf movie :(.
Still worth a watch.
fargo-esque immediately came to mind. from reviews, most people seem to have a love/hate of the humor - i enjoyed the wry bleak farce of it all. also, people hated cummings' john marshall - i had no problem with it, especially since the character is an underappreciated egotistical recovering alcoholic, i felt the acting was fitting.
im unfamiliar with jim cummings other works, but i enjoyed this outing of a werewolf whodunit
Men Yelling: The Movie
It had some funny moments but mostly it was just pretty snow scenery and yelling
From the poster art, this looked like it could be a potentially old school style werewolf movie. Knowing nothing about it prior to watching, it turned out to be a Horror-Comedy that was neither too scary nor too funny. But ultimately, this was a very good story about a dysfunctional Policeman/Dad, burdened by his own personal expectations of himself. While these lofty goals have lead him to alcoholism, rage, and just being a world-class asshole, John Marshall was a character I pulled for. I also really liked the character of Julia, who is a top cop and a genuine good person.
A movie that wasn't really about the Wolf and was more about character struggles is something that I normally would hate. It irks me when I start out watching a Horror movie and it turns into a soap opera. But that wasn't the case here. There is some rapid fire dialog and crazy character interactions that make this different. There is a significant amount of gore to be had, but it's usually presented very briefly so it communicates how awful the incidents of the movie are instead of reveling in the blood and guts.
i'll give jim cummings the benefit of the doubt for his acting, especially because i've never seen his other roles and plus, his daughter's behavior mimicked his a lot in those last scenes - i think it was a purposeful choice and it worked. after all, his character isn't meant to be likable or sympathetic, he's a classic antihero. and if you haven't had the misfortune of meeting someone like that in real life, i'm sorry to tell you that they do actually exist to be that intolerable and inept. his characterization was distinct enough to feel intentional and therefore sincere, rather than generically bad acting, and i loved the character, in an "i have never wanted to duct tape a human being's mouth this badly before" kind of way.
the story was good, plot was fun and easy to follow. it's very fargo and twin peaks in mood, and i think a lot of the tag lines and info on the movie does it a disservice by characterizing it as a serious, dark kind of horror. if you do that to a movie that's comedic in nature, it ruins what everyone is expecting from the movie. it primes people to take things seriously instead of catching onto the joke, and that leaves a disappointing taste in a persons mouth even if the movie is legitimately great. and i think this movie is that! it's definitely not 100% original, but i think it fits its genre well and i enjoyed every bit of it.
It was Quentin Tarantino as a teen.
Not bad, not great.
Film 69 (Goal: 300) of 2024
I had high hopes for The Wolf of Snow Hollow. Lately I've been enjoying these smaller, 90 minute quirky horror films. This film, written, directed by and starring Jim Cummings, definitely falls into those parameters. But what could be seen as a simple horror film, studies the growth of a fallible man who fails time and time again. And the character Cummings plays is not a likable character. There were many scene where I hated the character due to his constant outbursts and fits of anger, of which there are many. Cummings performance is fantastic though - with his best moments being when he gets to show off his comedic timing. In an unqualified actors hands, there would be no connection but Cummings does a good enough job, so that I rode the ups and downs (of which there are many) of his journey.
Speaking of actors, and I don't like picking on child actors but the young woman who plays Cummings daughter has some god awful delivery of lines in a few scene towards the end of the film. It's nothing that comes back to hurt the film but she definitely stands out as the weakest performance.
Perhaps the biggest weakness of the film is how it struggles to commit to an idea. Is it a horror, is it a horror-comedy, how gory does it want to be, even the idea of the wolf itself. And this lack of commitment overall hurts the film. A little more commitment may have paid dividends towards the end. That aside, if you are looking for horror alternatives, this should scratch an itch - so to speak.
This was pretty enjoyable. It had a little bit of humor to break up some of the gorey practical effects.
84 minutes of Jim Cummings's character being tortured emotionally and verbally by the townspeople, which was cruel but hilarious.
I watched this on a plane journey, and I had to pause a couple of times because I had to hold back laughing too loudly.
I expected a somewhat trashy retro werewolf romp, did not expect an anti hero character arc. I can see why it puts off some audience, both for the high and the low, but it worked well with me. Maybe because I was going in blind and don't take issue with the opinionated display of social norms.
Fargo wanna be, but misses the mark. Mr. Forster, Chloe & Niki count for 3 of my 5 stars.
Jim Cummings has a certain "vibe" about him and it makes his character here, similar to his turn in Thunder Road, a bit off in such a way that gets under your skin, but not enough to fully dislike him. Since he's writing for himself, he's well attuned to his strengths, but he also writes other characters that bounce off of him in unique ways. Now the film itself is less of a horror flick and more of a personal piece on our lead's issues (from alcoholism to expectations to familial drama) while some weird murders happen in town. And I loved it (much like I did Thunder Road). It had the perfect amount of quirk and character moments, and the mystery was fine too.
Episode 10x08
A chaotic montage, over-acted characters (the protagonist / director / screenwriter takes the cake), a story with more holes than an Emmental cheese (because Gruyère has NO holes) and some other little things make it impossible for me to recommend this movie. Look, I like the werewolves genre, but ... this time I was wrong.
It was more an action/comedy film than a thriller film. I had a good laugh
The Wolf of Snow Hollow was not what I was expecting, but that's ok because it was great none-the-less. The humour really resonated with me. A recovering alcoholic, who finds his job so stressful that he relapses, doesn't seem like rich comedy material, but I loved it. The acting was solid and the movie held my interest throughout.
Write, direct, act, and all at entertaining levels of humor. Thought this was a well done spiral out of control with a killer on the loose. This is my first time seeing anything he acted in or directed. There's definitely a future in both
After "Thunder road", Jim Cummings continues with his weird sense of humor, which finds the comedy in the drama or the ridicule of characters in a nervous breakdown. But this mixture of horror and humor, this kind of reinterpretation of "Twin Peaks" stretching absurd situations, does not find the right balance. And it ends up being a certainly unusual product but also a failed one.
What is this movie?
This is surely not some typical small town murder mystery. It has this strange vibe.
Characters sometimes breaking the fourth wall, looking straight at you from the camera!
Need to watch this a few more times.
This murder mystery is quite funny and engaging once you get into it. Performance wise the late Robert Forster is the best actor in the movie.
It’s not always clear what Jim Cummings is going for. Though his cop with anger issues at least feels original and fun at times. Even if his acting isn’t Oscar worthy. Maybe that’s the point of his performance ?
The movie is like a dramedy horror version of Wolfen with Albert Finney. Since no one is actually sure if there’s a werewolf.

Never seen any Jim Cummings projects so I don't understand the hype. Movie was meh. Story was ok but the comedy wasn't funny, more annoying than anything .
