But the film still flops so hard.
*China's first big science fiction movie, so beautiful!*
This movie is adapted from his novel of the same name. To be honest,it didn't disappoint me.I'm sure you've never seen a science fiction Chinese movie like this!.
The idea of running away with the planet is so crazy, but so beautiful!
The film shows the Chinese people's unique feelings towards their home, family and land. And it does not display individualism like the Hollywood superhero movies, nor does it publicize any political idea, but only the courage and unwilling to be destroyed when facing a desperate situation.
Although I don't like Jing Wu's "Wolf warrior", as far as his performance in "Wandering earth" is concerned, well done! I recommend you to watch it. You'll never forget it.
My Score: 6/10
this Chinese movie is much better than many of the Hollywood movies !!
1 star for the VFX only. Characters just flow in emotions and forget the greater plan of saving the earth. Rather they care about other people's life. If there is no earth, where will they be living?
The science in this movie is not right. Lighting up Jupiter! Are you kidding me? Don't waste your time as I did. This movie is stupid.
Crazy movie with crazy idea. Must watch.
Really great visuals, but incredibly painful acting, nonsensical science, convoluted plot, and confused editing really hurt this film. Lots of cliches about self-sacrifice and inspirational speeches of cooperation. Blah blah blah. United Earth Government is the most pessimistic entity imaginable, ready to throw humanity under bus at the slightest sign of trouble. Like multiple times. I love space movies that don’t deal with aliens, and I had high hopes for Wandering Earth, but that is the most I’ve ever been deceived by RT.
In the simplest terms .... Bad movie
Don't waste your time, it's just nonsense
Nothing to see here, move along
Don't watch this, this is communist propaganda.
This movie reminds me of another disaster movie called "2012". The plot is full of constant climaxes to the point where none of them seem to matter. The family moments are nicely done and the effects are impressive but overall the movies just seems to go on and on until you are begging for some kind of ending.
Really enjoyed it. What also added to my enjoyment is that I'm currently watching the mini series
The Planets 2019 by Professor Brian Cox. Absolutely amazing mini series. Great new visuals and must see.
I had no idea that Jupiter was featured in this movie and by total accident I saw
1x03 The Godfather: Jupiter from The Planets 2019 just one night before. So I watched this movie with my fresh new knowledge of Jupiter and it was very enjoyable.
The very concept is new! Usually there are movies with alien attacks, calamity, destruction and then happy ending but this one is little different. Talking the earth far out to safeguard its survival is something new. I loved the way the story was said and graphics were lovely, could have added some more future tech rather than still use a lift to raise up :D
Bass drop sweeps all the time!!!
A love letter to Big Dumb Object genre novels. I haven't read this specific book, but it's reminiscent of David Brin's work. It feels like how a faithful novel adaption would be, possibly to its detriment. There's exposition dumps and flashbacks aplenty, but I'm an exposition kind of person. The script feels a little unfocused, almost like Gravity and San Andreas got combined into a single movie. But it came out to be an almost perfect emulation of a Western style 00's disaster thriller.
I hope this production crew is assigned Three Body Problem and rescues it from development hell, since they're now experts at working with Cixin Liu material.
Chinese 2012 movie, good efects bad acting, bad plot.
the cgi was good, but the story kinda dragged off a little bit of family affair.
Sun about to go boom, so everyone gets together and decides to build a bunch of engines to move the Earth to a nearby star system. Around Jupiter things go FUBAR and only the Chinese can save us.
In the grand tradition of "When Worlds Collide", "Armageddon" and anything Roland Emmerich has done, this apocalyptic disaster tale is all about the spectacle and the feels, giving physics a kick in the balls it so rightly deserves (said with tongue firmly in cheek). From what I've read online there's a lot here that I missed, not being remotely Chinese, but well I may have missed the subtle nuances Chinese audiences loved (it's the 5th highest grossing Chinese film of all time) it does feature enough spectacle and melodrama to satisfy my dumb monkey brain. I don't know why but a dude with a minigun trying to shot the planet Jupiter well yelling "Screw You, Jupiter" does something for me. I may need professional help. Biggest peeve, you could shave 30 minutes off this and not lose anything.
Not a must watch, but worth your time none the less.
It's a fascinating, original concept. Whether or not it is feasible, you probably would only find four or five minds in the world that could extrapolate the mathematics to prove or disprove the possibility of success. Much better than the standard Hollywood fare of "Global Warming will kill us all" or "Look out! Here comes the Asteroid." disaster movies. The CGI is as outstanding as the English dubbing is horrible. Definitely a popcorn movie to simply be enjoyed for what it has to offer.
Great plot, bad execution.
They just had too much information for a 2 hour movie. I felt they tried their best to explain all the concepts, but in the end it looked like a Frankenstein of multiple scifi ideas. It was too fast-paced for me, and I couldn't understand most of the scenes.
The plot is actually great, and I'd love to see it on a book/game/TV show, where all details could be properly dived into. I really felt that the screenwriters developed a huge universe but had to cut off major parts. I want that universe properly explained somewhere, please.
The awe-inspiring CGI and inspirational stock music, combined with it's space theme, make the movie very pleasant to watch.
The English dubbing is horrible please watch it with subtitles.
*Apparently, the movie itself is an adaption from a novel. That explains the high amount of information.
Wandering Earth is probably meant to be serious action sci-fi ... it was fun as hell from the beginning to very end. LMAO!
Great SFX but you need to leave your 'reality meter' at the door. The premise is silly but I enjoyed it until it was getting too convoluted towards the end when so many unnecessary problems kept happening and needing everyone to once again race off somewhere else to get stuff fixed.
It wasn't a boring movie but was 30 minutes too long.
A reasonable attempt with some interesting ideas and very good sets, but irretrievably spoilt by terrible translations of the Chinese and a slightly naive story.
The English dub is awful, couldn't they hire professional voice actors? Spend millions in vfx, but then save money on voice acting, doesn't really make sense.
watch it in Chinese with English subs
I was hoping that a big budget sci-fi flick from outside of the US might do something unique or have a new vision for the genre. Unfortunately, what we have is just another summer blockbuster styled film. The visuals are solid and the acting was fine enough, but plot points were telegraphed to the audience and beyond an interesting high concept, everything else was a bit cookie cutter. I do like that we're getting some good looking, high budget flicks from beyond Hollywood, but I would love to see a more unique take on the blockbuster than what we had here.
The visuals in this movie are well done; the story however is not that great. The story is cheesy and far-fetched. I also watched a dubbed version of the movie so I'm sure my experience was a bit lower quality. It's not a movie I'd watch again.
Catastrophe film of the Chinese, made with money and well, laugh of 2012, it goes further

The special effects are beautiful but unconvincing. The main characters are unlikeable, the science is absurd, the story is predictable and the movie is funnier than it was meant to be.
But at least you can't really say it was boring.
