The Spectacular Now 2013

I was surprised, cause I found this movie, randomly, on Shailene Woodley's IMDB and decided to watch it. Didn't expect too much, but... Think I got caught by this movie.

wow, great coming off age movie in a long time. natural acting by leads really helped.

I must be getting old as I am starting to really enjoy these kinds of coming-of-age films. This was one of the best that I've seen - you can see that Woodley and Teller are going to be stars.

I'm a sucker for a good coming-of-age movie. I didn't have high exceptions for this one since I only just heard about it and it exceeded my expectations. I thought the writing was excellent. Miles Teller and Shailene Woodley were both fantastic. I am watching this after they both have become bigger actors but I wish I would have seen this back in 2013 when they were still new. Brie Larson is also amazing as always. I love the message about not only living for today.

Fun Fact: Shailene Woodley tells Miles Teller early in the film that she believes people are "more than one thing" - the year later she proved she was when she was revealed to be Divergent! Oh, and Teller co-starred with her in that film too.

Both are terrific in this film. Teller is one of the finest young actors working in Hollywood today. Better than usual teen romance.

this is a mediocre acted dramedy with some weird reactions from the actors, lot didn't make any sense.

Whatever message the movie was trying to pass along, it passed it in a very boring way. Wouldn't watch it again even if someone paid me to.

This is way better than 'A Fault In Our Stars'
this looks and feels real.
but the former tries to be real but somehow fails.

Great movie, ignore the "This movie is terrible and/or boring" comments, not every movie is for everybody and not everyone understands every type of movie. This starts off feeling like a very light hearted movie and ends up being a really good story about a guy who's going through abandonment issues from his father, who I think pretty much every guy who's dad left can relate to, and about a girl who fell for a guy for who he is and not who he's trying so hard to pretend he is.

Added props need to be given to the small details in this movie, like the mom pretending she kicked the dad out when the dad just left because he's a piece of shit, and the mom caring so much about her son that she was willing to take that "heat" from her son rather than him know the truth about his dad in that he just doesn't care.

Anyone who said the acting in this movie isn't that good totally didn't get what was going on, and their opinion is worth mud.

I feel like I watched this at the wrong time in the wrong moment with the wrong attitude. Obviously, this isn't your everyday typical romantic comedy. On the contrary, it's unique in every way, hyper-realistic and above all, it features one of my favorite actors Miles Teller! But still, I don't think I've understood this movie, hence why I gave it a 6.

I am so disappointed, it was taste of time :(

The Spectacular Now is much more than the romantic film about a teenage love story, it's a film about self-destruction. Self-destruction that ruins the life of the one who is in a destructive process but the lifes of other people around.

Miles Teller plays a selfish guy, who can deeply inside can actually be a great guy but his carelessness about life and his alcohol addiction doesn't let him see the reality of what his true life is. Everybody loves him, he is popular and he can be the perfect friend for anyone but no one really knows that behind that mask he is actually a very sad person.

In my opinion both Miles Teller and Shailene Woodley might be two of the most promising young actors. The few works that I've seen from both show that they really are pretty good actors and in this film their acting is fantastic!

The Spectacular Now is a solid drama with a beautiful and important message about life and about addiction. Life doesn't get better unless you actually do something for you and your life.

I don't mind with open ending films, it's great that some films have it for us to feel free to think about what happens next, but in this case I maybe would like to have seen a different ending for the story, a concrete one.

This movie is as entertaining as watching snow fall.

A few steps above watching paint dry.

5 just for some scenes and dialogues :(

If acting alone would make a movie a 10, this one would get it. Unfortunately, it is slightly above average at best for all the other aspects in the movie.

Surprisingly deep and complex for what appears on the surface as a straightforward teenage romance. Doesn't shy away from addressing real, tough young adults face when trying to sort out what kind of person they want to become. Shailene Woodley and Miles Teller are just fantastic. The story is an emotional rollercoaster, and the chemistry between these two really makes the film. Well-placed humor provides a nice balance. Despite being somewhat disappointed with the ending, I had a great time overall.

I thought the beginning of the movie was going really fast in establishing the love between Sutter and Aimee, but seeing the entire movie, I realized this movie wasn't simply just a teenage romance movie. It's more about having the courage to face the future that's ahead even if it is uncertain and experience more than just the "now."

Overall a good film, though it didn't quite hit the feels as perhaps was intended.  Miles Teller excels at the goofy comedian-type character but is not so great with the sadder emotions.

One of the worst things I've ever seen. And the lack of chemistry between Shailene and Miles did not help the already terrible everything else. I usually enjoy them on other things, but somehow the garbage setting of the film has brought on the worst from them.

I think every person who has a heart should watched this movie.

I like the rawness and realness of the film. It was all okay until the last part... I was kinda disappointed to be honest.

Will I rewatch this? Maybe, when I'm a bit older and wiser. Will I recommed this? Maybe, to hear other people's thoughts that I might be missing while watching the film.

there's actually no point in seeing this movie !
and the tag comedy should be removed from this movie !
Shailene was the only good thing in this movie!

There was nothing new in it but i guess it was watchable.

gave it a 9, because it was "down my alley"

I liked this movie. It isn't a big movie, but it lives up for it's premisse. It has a nice story and the acting is good too.

Not as great as the book but still was a good adaptation. But to be honest I was especting more.
Also I loved they changed the ending for the film. Thank you.

I really liked the movie up until the opening ending :/
Nevertheless acting was great (really promising young actors!) as well as story and especially the hidden message as already mentioned by CatyAlexandre.

I'll start with what I liked: Shailene Woodley, who plays Aimee. Aimee is the type of girl that, unfortunately, we don't see enough in films. She's a little shy and insecure and dorky and instead of going through a change, the guy falls for her as she is. I really wanted to like her, and some of the time I managed, thanks to the talented and likable Shailene and not at all thanks to the script.
Some of the dialogues made me cringe just because it was so forced, absolutely no one talks or behaves like that in real life. The dinner with Sutter's sister, for example.
Oh and on the list of things that don't happen in real life: walking away with just a broken arm after a car hit you on the highway. I thought she had died and then she was perfectly fine, in her room. I think that's when I completely gave up on the movie.
Which is a shame. I hoped to enjoy a cute, hopefully a little different movie, and it's just not a good movie. Luckily Shailene is already on to bigger and better projects.
