The Score 2001

Underrated gem. Norton is fantastic. Does what it sets out to do: entertain. Norton even followed the rule set out in Topic Thunder... 'never go full....'

Watching this for the very first time today. This movie is a great watch for geeks. The first hour and a half goes into a lot of technical details around the heist and putting together a meticulous plan. Unlike other heist movies, this part doesn't involve the cliche background music to hype things up, which makes the whole experience more realistic IMO. I can see why some might find this part a bit slow and boring. This isn't the Italian Job or Oceans Eleven. if that's what you are comparing this movie to you might be left disappointed.

Mediocre thriller about the robbery of an antic scepter in Montreal. The first one and a half hour are just boring: they plan and they plan and they plan... The only thing that safes this flick is the last half hour as well as DeNiro's and Norton's performances.

The Score features a great cast, but unfortunately, some viewers might expect more from a film with these leading actors. While the movie's plot is well-crafted and entertaining, it falls short of being a memorable heist film due to its lack of originality and creativity. The performances of the cast are solid, but they don't elevate the movie beyond its average script. Overall, a good watch, but it might not meet the high expectations of viewers who expect more from a film with such a talented cast.

I bet the working title for this was "Robert De Niro / Marlon Brandon TV Pilot".

The Score is pretty low, maybe watch James Caan's Thief again instead?

From director Frank Oz comes the heist film The Score. The plot follows a Montreal jazz club owner who moonlights as a thief and is offered a score that will set him up for life, but to pull off the job he’ll have to take on a partner that he doesn't trust. Starring Robert De Niro, Edward Norton, and Marlon Brando, the cast is especially strong. And, Oz does an impressive job at bringing tense and drama to the planning and execution of the robbery. But the script is weak, and doesn’t develop the characters well enough to become invested in the heist’s outcome. Still, while the storytelling has its problems, The Score is an exciting and entertaining thriller.

A lovely heist film that absolutely doesn't stand up to rewatches. I had a great time the one time i watched it but I expect it'll get worse every time you go in again.

This film has been written off by so many people, including the actors in it!!

But I love it.

Edward Norton is excellent and is a masterclass in acting. De Niro doesn't phone it in. Brando improvises his way through his scenes and seems to be enjoying himself.

Great setup, lovely pacing, nice payoff. What's not to like?

8.5/10
