First time I rated this movie I gave it a 4:th. I remember I had a hard time with this movie. 2nd time I saw it again, and I change my mind. Don't know if I want to give it a ten, but maybe. There may be a eight, maybe change later. You can't rise too high at once :)

Between this and Grand Budapest Hotel is the best film Wes Anderson made...

A brilliantly eclectic and enjoyable film.

Any film that can have the line "That's the last time you put a knife in me, you hear me?" and it not be the best line of the film, well, that's a bloody good film.

8/10 - because you have to be in the mood for a Wes picture. He don't take prisoners! Be on it, or don't bother.

You might not even like this first time round but come back to The Royal Tenenbaums every few years and it’s like watching a different film every time.

Behind Anderson’s dry wit lies a surprisingly emotional and relatable tale about what ties a family together.

A must watch.

Wes Anderson = film genius

I wouldn't necessarily call 'The Royal Tenenbaums' one of Wes Anderson's absolute top films. I personally enjoy works like 'Moonrise Kingdom' and especially 'The Grand Budapest Hotel' even more. Nevertheless, it is clear that Anderson had already found his signature style at a comparatively early stage in his career. The director's fingerprints are omnipresent in this film. Whether it's the colorful sets, the quirky characters, or the absurd humor, he knew exactly what he was doing. The cast is also strong, as expected, with actors like Gene Hackman and Ben Stiller, and overall, the movie is thoroughly entertaining. I have never really been disappointed by Anderson, and 'The Royal Tenenbaums' is no exception.

I like this movie, but it’s not a great movie - its just too pretentious 6/10.

Entertaining. Not exactly sure why though. Not even sure what this is supposed to be. A comedy? A drama? A movie about finding love? A romcom? Is it trying to be more than showcasing some weird characters? Is there a philosophical core or any deeper witty meaning to the story that I didn't catch? Dunno.

Another great Wes Anderson movie with his usual actors, and their usual colors

I like the style, but I wasn't a fan of the substance.

"The Royal Tenenbaums" blends Wes Anderson's colorful visual style and quirky characters with an old-school bittersweet family drama that explores the past glories, regrets, and depression of a dysfunctional privileged family. The pacing is a little off, and there are a few dull moments along the way, but the overall result is surprisingly tasteful and well-balanced. Anderson's trademark style is rather restrained here, and I honestly prefer when he takes things to the extremes. However, I liked how he made it look like we are reading some kind of vintage book, and how the sets are carefully designed to tell us more about each character through colors and objects. Not his best, but a fun film nevertheless.

Watched appreciatively while undisturbingly separated from his family as they slept in a placid suburban neighborhood.

The cinematography is great as well. The story is original and interesting. The music in the movie is good and fits well. Overall it’s a emotional movie with good humor.

Wes Anderson certainly has a unique style. The way it's shot, the music and the humor are all great. The movie did feel a little long. I might need to see it again to fully appreciate it.
