Although the movie is predictable, like most romance comedies are, nevertheless it was sweet. It may not be the best romantic comedy I have seen but the movie still holds lots of charm.
This movie just makes me happy
The Proposal is a good comedy but like with most rom coms it goes downhill once it crosses the midway point and gets serious when the protagonists begin to fall in love. The bickering and the fighting in the beginning that's where the movie's real strength lies. Bullock and Reynolds have great chemistry and the way they go back and forth made me laugh a couple of times. Still no regrets. Sandra Bullock is one of the very very few actresses in Hollywood who can pull off a comedy as well as a drama.
This is basically a modern remake of the Green Card (1990), although the initial situation is different and the way they get to the (expected) outcome. I love Sandra Bullock. The chemistry between the two is quite good, the movie was predictable in many ways, but with these kind of movies sometimes thats the best feature. A pleasant feel-good movie, enjoyable, funny at times.
someone should make a lesbian version of this film
only good thing about this movie was ryan reynolds and the get low dancing scene
A film for when you are having a bad/stressful day. I have rewatched it too many times to count since it was released. One of those old school feel good rom coms that NewGen/Woke will hate but who cares it entertains. I wanted a sequel or more RR/asSB chemistry/comedy in more movies - The Lost City has similar vibe with CT/SB as leads.
NOTE FOR MYSELF SO I REMEMBER SOMEDAY, ONLY REPRESENTS MY OPINION/THOUGHTS FOR MYSELF NOT A “REAL REVIEW“, SO YOU PROBABLY WONT AGREE WITH IT
(also its not my 1st language)
I really dont like romantic movies (keep that in mind) but I thought and hoped this one was different (and I mean.. Ryan is in it.) and the first half or so was going great but than of course they started catching feelings and all that bs and it got cliché and boring. also many things in this movie are very unrealistic, especially them falling in love after that deep hate for each other, you don't change your personality and feelings for someone that quick just bc you spend a few days together. Sure we learnt Margaret wasn't that much of a b deep inside and that was cute but imo that's not enough for Andrew to actually fall in love with her, especially with Gertrude back in the picture, falling in love with a person you absolutely couldn't stand for 3 years or your highschool sweetheart you wanted to marry? Id definitely would've been confused about my feelings... I've liked to see Andrew and Margaret just staying friends or better colleagues than before and some personal growth, but well, its a romcom, what do I expect..
credits were funny tho
There are things that are wrong about this movie (the cultural appropriation that makes Betty White’s character indigenous and doing silly fake rituals, is the most glaring) but there are so many things that make this such a great RomCom that it garnered 20 award nominations and 7 wins: the twist on the premise, the casting is perfect comedy genius, the location shots are gorgeous, Sandra Bullock, Ryan Reynolds AND Betty White. This was a revisit for me, with a cast like that, you can be sure I saw it when it was first released (2009), but, when watching the press for FREE GUY (2021), I was surprised how many interviewers were still referring Ryan back to THE PROPOSAL, which prompted this rewatch. I found it still lots of fun with the exception of the things we have learned aren’t cultural fodder for dismissive humour. I give this film an 8 (great) out of 10. [RomCom]
Predictable, but better than most of these types of movies.
A textbook "unlikely lovers" rom-com which is made memorable by the comedic chops of the cast. Recommended if you're looking for something comfortable and familiar.
How degradating it is this new western society, where someone the filthy author try to convince us that a woman not having sex in half and a year is something very surprising, so she should have sex once in a month maybe like a whore in a brothel, and find that is fine, in a romantic movie.
Your society forget the true values of love.
Good film, if you like romantic comedies, you’ll know what to expect. Not as rip-roaringly funny as other romcoms, but still was a good watch.
Predictable, corny, cringey and simple, but still a fun watch. The chemistry between Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock is really the highlight. A feel-good ending and beautiful Alaskan setting were nice bonuses. As long as you go into it keeping your expectations in check, you'll have a great time with this one.
I have it in my head that I've always liked Sandra Bullock. What's not to like? But then I take a minute and think about the movies she has been in and I can't really think of any movies of hers that I really loved. The Blind Side was a complete disaster. Gravity was alright but I think it was a bit overrated. For the first hour of this movie she has almost nothing to work with. Don't get me wrong - that is still 100x better than the sassy and condescending (and fictional!) character that she played in The Blind Side. It wasn't until the end that she could stretch out a bit and show some chops.
While this movie has a fantastic supporting cast (and thankfully they didn't ham it up too much with Betty White) it is definitely all about Ryan Reynolds. He represents the emotional core of the movie and overall he did a good job with it. While there are some laughs at the beginning the movie is at its best when it is a straight-ahead drama. if you like rom coms you could definitely do worse.

Sandra Bullock at her comedic best! A classic.
I consider this movie the swan song of the modern romantic comedy. Well after the hey day of the Hanks/Ryan films, it is the last (until "Crazy, Rich Asians") that I saw in the theaters. Hallmark Christmas movies was all people had for more than a decade. Interesting to see how tired some of the principles were of the formula themselves.
Okay for one viewing but would never watch again
Expected much more i some scenes were funny and good while some others were bad for me..6.3/10 fun to watch nothing more!
So sweet! The plot kinda cliche but still great!
Hilarious. Laugh out loud funny but it definitely needs to be edited.
I love this movie!

I really adore this movie. I don't really care if it's predictable or not. I laughed and I had a great time.
