I wasn't going into a movie titled Phantom Empire expecting it to be great, and it wasn't. I've seen enough '80s B-movie trash to know what this would be. The main issue here is that there is no story. If I were to say there was a group of people who go into a cave and it leads to a prehistoric world, you'd ask "what happens next?" They leave. "Then what?" The credits roll. There is no story here. There's a beginning, and an end, but nothing in between. I'll go over some of the key points within: this may be the most kitchen-sink B-movie I have ever seen, it has mutants, cave women, a robot, dinosaurs, and a space warrior - who just looks like she belongs in a 1980s metal band. Is there nude grappling? Of course. Was that the highlight? Yes. I think the movie would have been tolerable with only a few changes, but the biggest problem was Eddy. Her character was fun, at first, as the tough, sassy '80s chick, but it quickly grew old, seeing as how she was only there to deliver snarky dialog. I'd recommend this to fans of low-budget trash, but even then, be warned, this is all set up and no pay off.
