PHOEBE IS A SCENE STEALER AND STEALS THE SHOW FOR SURE,
IT'S GOOD LIGHT HEARTED FUN.
THE FX ARE GOOD ESPECIALLY FOR THE TIME AND IT HAD SOME GOOD GROWN UP BITS IN IT WHICH WAS A NICE TOUCH. I DID ENJOY THIS MOVIE BETTER WHEN I WAS YOUNGER BUT STILL A FUN WATCH NOW, FOR ME IT'S BETTER THAN THE GOONIES.
7/10

Who are you gonna call? The Monster Squad! That was a fun watch, little cheesy from the monsters thought but everything else counters it.

I had never seen this but was told that it was a great movie. I tried to figure out how a great monster movie could have avoided me so I was looking forward to seeing it. Well I quickly realized while watching it that peoples' fondness for it has to be for nostalgic reasons because "The Monster Squad" is a corny kid's movie with bad dialogue annoying pre-teens and a lightweight story. I guess if I had seen it when I was 10 or 11 it may have been interesting but there's not much in it for adults.

A group of children against a collection of monsters. Smells like inspiration for Stranger Things here.

The film had potential, but ended up being average by today's standards. The story seemed rushed and confusing at times. There were interesting parts, but overall it didn't really stand out. The visual effects weren't bad considering.

The cool kid Rudy steals the show. It’s like Fonzy vs Monsters which is fun. He’s definitely the best of the kids. Most of the other kids try but maybe a little too hard which comes off cheesy. Especially the lead.
The little sister being friends with Frankenstein has some charm as well. The last line is especially corny. Still, this is a better monster get together than Van Helsing.
Though the movie wants to be Ghostbusters meets the Goonies and isn’t as memorable as neither of them. The movie did grow on me more in my latest viewing I admit.

Better and gorier than I expected.
'It's Frankenstein, guys. He's our friend. Come on, guys. Don't be chicken-shits.'

I would of loved this if I saw it as a kid. It's still a lot of cheesy 80s fun. A good mix of kids drama and actual monsters.

Good 80's fun about a bunch of losers fighting monsters. They should do a sequel to coincide with It Part 2!
