Comedy, Action, Adventure, Romance, Cheesy, Botox filled
Give in to the cheeeeeeese! Definitely cheesy and cringeworthy in parts, but, honestly, the live theater audience gave me permission to laugh, enjoy, and give in to those moments. If I was watching this online, or at home, I would have turned it off after 10 minutes or watched it at 2x, but the theater experience made an otherwise terrible movie a reasonably good one. 7/10.
It is enjoyable to watch the movie, and it moves fast so you won't be bored. It has good laughs and it discusses a good idea at the end so it is not just a waste of time.
An entertaining Romancing the Stone rip-off. That is better than it has a right to be due to the perfect cast. As well as plenty of laughs. Though I was never feeling the romance aspect of the movie.
This movie was so much fun. Great humor and action. Also playing with its own cheesyness was awesome. Not one you have to see at the movies but defo when it hits the streams!
A unique idea for a slap stick comedy. Even if one doesn't care for the plot the many famous actors/actresses will keep one entertained. However, this film is quite good as the plot of a romance/erotica writer who is still grieving her archeologist husband gets wrapped up with some bad guys who are in search for the fictional treasure in her book. As it turns out it's actually real, but not physical. So they go on a comically bad adventure that has some romance thrown in.
A very enjoyable film! The plot is simple and straightforward with no real twists but the great cast manage to elevate the movie from mediocre to good.
It delivers on the comedic part a lot better than most comedies lately.
It’s definitely worth the watch at the cinema and I actually can’t wait to see it again!
What a load of rubbish. Avoid.
I would say it's enjoyable but it is not. Waste of time. Scenes, acting and even the characters are off. Maybe Pitt adds some flavor for a short time but that's it. 4.5/10
A romance writer and her book cover model stumble into an adventure ripped from one of her books, I’m a sucker for this type of movie. They get the important parts right, the action for the most part is taken fairly serious, the cast is charismatic and Brad Pitt gets to have a lot of fun.
What a lame movie, I can't believe what the once famous actors are down to.
Not bad it’s a bit light.
Definitely not the worst this month
Boring, another waste of good actors
Plenty of funny moments, but this is more an endearing story about lost and unrequited love and what comes next. Very entertaining.
The only things that made me laugh were all in the trailer. More Brad Pitt would have made it much better.
They should have just made a Jack Trainer film
brd pitt was the best thing in the movie
More adventurous derring-do would not have gone amiss but this is still an enjoyable movie.
this was a cute movie to watch during a weekend with a bucket of popcorn and no expectations.
the characters feel kinda flat so much so I didn't bother memorizing anyone's name.
the whole "exploring a ruin with a hidden lesson being learned" was cute, but it felt to me like if the characters had been developed a bit more it would have been more enjoyable and pack some more meaning. this is not to say the performances weren't good, Daniel Radcliffe was great and so were Sandra and changing ... it's a family action movie, watch it and enjoy, don't expect anything mind-blowing and you'll be fine.
A tolerable adventure movie featuring the ageless Bullock. ;)
Very weak movie, bad script, what a dull and weak villain! Makes me laugh a little.
Enjoyable ride and always love Sandy B on my screen. Had some really funny moments and the chemistry in the dance scene was sizzling. Nice to see the woman be the older one of an on-screen pairing too. Makes a bloody change from all the male leads dating waaaaay younger women.
I really thought that this movie was funnier. There were a few fun scenes and it‘s definitely fine for a lazy movie night but in general I was a bit disappointed on that side. But what I really liked was the sense of adventure and the awesome locations in the movie. Also Sandra Bullock, Channing Tatum and Daniel Radcliffe were great in their roles.
Typical Sandra Bullock movie... seen one, seen 'em all.
A couple of amusing spots throughout the movie and the usual Hollywood ending.
Make your wife/girlfriend happy and watch it.
5/10
It's definitely not a masterpiece but it's quite entertaining and funny.
THE GOOD
Surprisingly fun old-school adventure movie in the line of Romancing the Stone or Indiana Jones. Good performances by Radcliffe and Tatum, especially.
Interesting location / treasure (although not really fleshed out) and characters.
THE BAD
Sandra Bullock's face looks like she's had surgery and it's not okay. Cher, anyone? Killed the immersion for me and made it absolutely unbeliebable that a young dude like Tatum would fall in love with her.
In general, the love story between the protagonists was the weak part of the movie and completely unnecessary. Letting them become good friends would have been wholesome and a nice change - this ending is an unbelievable version of what we've seen in Hollywood movies for 80 years now.
Also, some of the locations (the tomb surroundings, the beach at the end) had way too much CGI.
THE UGLY
Come to think of it, the nude scene Tatum had to go through for the laughs seems like something from another era. Imagine James Bond staring at the naked butt and vagina of a woman for several minutes, making funny remarks. Feminists would BURN THE CITY DOWN. But oh well. It's just a guy.
OVERALL
This review might not sound like it, but I enjoyed the movie a lot. Watch it with some friends and popcorn.
7/10
Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum's odd-couple comedy is a surprisingly entertaining and ludicrous adventure which keeps you smirking throughout. The good thing about it is that after a long time we see an adventure film without Rock being in it. The chemistry is enlivening between Tatum and Bullock for sure. While the humor is sufficient, the banters are wacky, the casting is brilliant and the silliness is welcoming.
Adventure comedies are refreshing, and are meant for light hearted watch. Exactly what this one delivers, a splendid cameo and hilarious conversations make for amusing adventure flick with family. While the casting is pretty unusual, the chemistry seemed strikingly pleasant. A good popcorn flick if your weekend isnt having any solid plans.

An enjoyable film with actors I love. The Proposal meets Jump Street in the style of Romancing The Stone/Jewel In The Nile. Fast paced with some good jokes (although you sometimes almost miss them). Not sure if buy the romance aspect bur I felt like the actors enjoyed making this movie a lot :)
"You're basically a walking disco ball."
Predictable, silly and quite funny. Channing Tatum is so damn likeable and Sandra Bullock is a classic, but the MVP for me is Brad Pitt. I want a movie about his character and he can possibly bring Channing Tatum along with him.
Higher rating than normally given because of being surprised by the film not being bad and it didn't do that well on the box office. Unfortunate since it is a unique and new IP and was better than competing films like the video game adventure film Uncharted
unimaginative and boring! cliche, no chemistry between the leads. Nostalgia watch also didn’t really work for me. 3/10
No lie, I came for the cast, and they did not disappoint. I mean, how does Daniel Radcliffe go from fun, friendly guy to crazy eyes so quickly? I liked it, but I also liked romancing the stone too, which is roughly the same concept.
Jack Trainer moments 7.5 or higher. Remainder? 4/10 mostly. Too much cringe/cheese. I do like the leads; however, and Bullock is 57. Impressive. Can sit through it w your partner and smile at some of the jokes, but overall quite poor. A generous 5.2
Absolutely enjoyable popcorn movie. I haven't had such fun in a long time, lots of laughs and action.
Would totally recommend for a fun night
Shitty film, classic Hollywood action/comedy film. Nothing special, everything is bad. If only Brad Pitt would have been more in the movie, maybe it would have been watchable
4/10
A run of the mill adventure film, but with self aware humor that will give you some good laughs. Worth it if you’re bored and want to shut off your brain.
I'm a sucker for a fun action rom-com. Sandra Bullock is on top of her game and Daniel Radcliffe's villainous turn is delightful. The Lost City makes for a great night at the movies.
this is pretty bad. i fast forwarded in many of the sections. . 3/10
Good movie for boring sunday :)
Very bad bad bad movie
I just didn’t enjoy this one. None of the jokes landed for me. This movie feels more like a very long and uninteresting advert for Diageo.
This movie gives off "Romancing the Stone" vibes hard. I laughed out loud. Should have a higher rating just for the cheese factor.
I think it's a good film to help pass the time when you're feeling a bit bored but aren't in the mood for something too complex or elaborate.
I had so much fun with this movie for a second time, Channing Tatum is amazing in this, I love the story, enjoyed it from start to finish.
Brad Pitt was the only exciting person in the movie... what an absolute waste of time
(503-word review) I found this to be a bit cringy. Enough to immediately assume that the overall film will be a rating lower than what I've given it; the Q&A scene hammered that home for me. That awkward humor, topped with perpetual silence because some people want to make you suffer, is second-hand embarrassment galore. People who love that probably exist, and I'm perplexed.
However, that was only the case until the meat of it all started making headway, beginning with the introduction of Daniel Radcliffe's character, followed by the arrival at the island. It gradually improved from there, much to my relief, regarding the escape from that humor and the enjoyment increase.
The main cast (Sandra Bullock, Channing Tatum, Daniel Radcliffe), including the supporting cast (Da'Vine Joy Randolph, Oscar Nuñez, Brad Pitt), were all good and contributed massively (Patti Harrison was alright) to the enjoyment of this film. That wouldn't have been as much of the case if the writing (the Nee Brothers, Oren Uziel, Dana Fox, revolved around the story by Seth Gordon) wasn't also good; the directing, too, also by the Nee Brothers.
Speaking of the supporting cast, specifically Brad Pitt, I want to mention my surprise about him being in this film. I remember reading a few things about it back in 2021, which included that. Well, I forgot. And something about Jack Trainer's voice over the phone was stroking my subconscious. That's why. He barely had any screen time (nowhere near enough, mind you), but he was one of the highlights. His "status" is at a level where his little screen time is understandable.
The best aspects beyond the cast were the cinematography by Jonathan Sela (the visuals looked excellent and picturesque, helped by the work of the location managers, Boni Canto and Isidro J. González) and the action-adventure genre, specifically the adventure part.
The whole 'adventure/exploration of ancient places, maybe to also find ancient treasure' thing has a particular appeal; the nice-to-look-at locations/scope of the world-building probably plays a factor. I may like it more than the murder mystery/whodunit sub-genre, for example, as I watched Murder Mystery two films ago, although it's still pretty close.
The most lackluster, although not THAT lackluster or that big of a deal, aspect was the chemistry between the two leads. Both Channing and Sandra had more chemistry with Brad. Yes, romantic chemistry. Yes, Channing and Brad, too. Channing and Sandra had more comedy-duo chemistry than romantically.
I'd welcome a second film but with a catch. Brad Pitt must return and have a more prominent role. Adding to that, it should revolve around all three of them. The trio was better than the duo. Hell, add a threesome into the mix. Why not? Come on, don't be shy and prudish. Don't "reserve" something like that for films like Fifty Shades of Grey/that trilogy only.
With a better first half and the short-lived trio of Channing, Sandra, and Brad, the action-adventure element did most of the work here, followed by specific characters, particularly Abigail Fairfax.
They should have switched the screen time of Brad Pitt and Channing Tatum. It would have made the film way better.
Not this being the movie that finally gets me to like Channing Tatum!
So good. Sandra and Jeff work so great together. Laughs all through the movie. Highly recommend
Channing Tatum makes this movie. He is absolutely fantastic.
Brad Pitt was great, too. I wish he had a bigger part.
And for his bit part, I loved Oscar Nunez. Aboom.
It was an ok movie, although it had a great cast I didn’t find it particularly funny. I was expecting more from it.
This movie is a whole bunch of cheesy goodness. The two leads are obviously huge and consistent put out quality movies. This one they essentially said “let’s make a rom com that spoofs adventure movies” and somehow hits its out of the park (relatively). There’s still plenty of rom com cliche bits, but it’s acceptable given the absurdity. Brad Pitt’s role will likely go overlooked, but he was hysterical. I actually hope they somehow make a sequel for this movie, because I would very much enjoy more of it!
Rating: 3.5/5 - 8/10 - Would Recommend
without any supplier this is the usual shit not worthy of your time. plenty of amazing movies out there but this is certainly not one.
This movie is just good fun and a good laugh. Enjoyed it!
I can enjoy a silly movie now and then but this was not it. Stupidly annoying with irritating characters with no redeeming features whatsoever.
“Stop mansplaining”
“I’m a woman, I can’t mansplain”
“I’m a feminist and believe a woman can do anything a man can do”
“…”
Best line of the movie. Cracked me up.
If you are a LGBT-retard, this movie is definitely for you. It has all sort of liberal leftist ideals: fat black woman, gender study, beta males (soy boys), feminism, gender-neutral name, feminization of men, indoctrinate men into chasing liberal women, ...
They even ridiculed Jesus Christ, calling him "Cheese and Rice".
This movie was an attempt to rewrite the style of movie making for adventure movies (think about Indiana Jones.) Everything in those movies are reversed in this one.
This wouldn't be that bad after all, if they didn't push every political propaganda possible and insulted Jesus Christ.
Someone please tell me the pilot is Adam Sandler?
Sandra Bullock is old enough to be tatums mom.
Great casting job, A1. So realistic
The Lost City is an action-adventure rom-com combo that has more action than comedy. While there are plenty of laughs to be had throughout the film, a large percentage of them missed the mark completely. There were scenes that had me laughing aloud and others that were a little cringe at times, so the humor levels will for sure vary per viewer. The overall plot was somewhat standard but entertaining enough as comedy plots are concerned. The beginning starts off strong and then slowly fades as the plot becomes more unbelievable. The acting is excellent, as it should be with this type of star power. Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum had spectacular comedic chemistry and bounced off each other nicely. Daniel Radcliffe’s over the top villain antics were fairly decent as well, nothing groundbreaking. Brad Pitt was a standout, and I wish we saw more of him in this film, but his scenes by far were the most memorable. Even though this movie has its ups and downs, it understands what it is, and does not take itself seriously. This translates to the audience not taking it seriously as well, which results in a fairly fun viewing experience.
Verdict: Decent
Enjoyable romp, which, is indeed pretty much as @Jim22201 opined, a "Romancing the Stone" homage / rip-off, although Pitts "Jack Trainer" is more in line with Michael Douglas' "Jack T. Colton" (get it... Jack Trainer, Jack T..... Colton?) character than Tatum's bumbling, stumbling cover model version, even though he also eventually gets what he apparently wanted all along in the end. Daniel Radcliffe continues his quest to make us all forget his days at "Hogwarts", playing the erstwhile villain, while at the same time providing subtle comic relief as the rich feminine hygiene nozzle looking for a legendary treasure. The yeoman supporting cast all hit their marks with alacrity, while Da'Vine Joy Randolf shines as Author Loretta Sage's Manager / Agent Beth. Predictable, but still a fun watch, which a fun twist at the end that could lead to a "Jewel of the Nile" type sequel if the studio felt it would work.
I liked it. But I also loved Romancing the Stone. Please make more movies of this kind!
I would have liked more scenes with Jack.
It is so horrible that in a certain way it fascinates me.
So obviously someone was trying to imitate an old classic and bring it into the present. Well, it didn't work at all. It's missing everything. If anyone wants to see a romantic comedy about a treasure hunt, try Romancing the Stone or The Jewel of the Nile. You'll get movies that are about the same thing, but many times better.
very ok movie. more than expected, almost give it 8.
genuinely entertaining. this is the genre sandra bullock has always thrived in, i love the way casts come together around her.
I was fearful this would be a rehash of "Romancing the Stone." Well, it's not, so now I'm disappointed. LOL
This film definitely was a cheese fest, all good cast but the script was poor but at times it was funny, enjoyable but other times it was silly. P.S post credit scene
Silly, over the top, cheesy, and very forgettable.....but also quite a good time in the end. Bullock and Tatum are very charming, quite funny, and they somehow make it somewhat work. If the movie poster is not completely putting you off, you might have a good time if you can leave your brain cells alone.
Much funnier and charming than it had any right to be!
I can see the sequel already coming and I hope they can capture the magic dust of this one.
Corny, cheesy, predictable, self-effacing, yet incredibly self-aware. Very enjoyable.
7.75/10
i finished this movie because sandra bullock's voice at the beginning gave me goosebumps. glad i did. it was fun. even with channing tatum there.
Should get Bullock her 2nd Razzie award! just really bad dialog...
It has entertained me and I liked it, I did not ask for more. That character of Brad Pitt with appears with the tune of True detective. That post-credits scene
Unexpectedly pretty .. ok which was more than I had expected from the trailer. Even laughed once or twice. A fun frivolous crowd-pleasing time-waster that I'll likely forget come year's end
wow that was really boring and dumb.
Since when does Brad Pitt do a small 'bit-part'? And why would they bring him back alive after having his brains blown out earlier in the movie?
A hilariously clever/meta setup for an Indiana Jones-esque adventure story that I enjoyed more than the most recent blockbuster that attempted a more straight forward take on the genre (looking at you Uncharted). Combine the great premise with the comedic chops of Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum, and you've got a recipe for success. Beyond the two stars, Brad Pitt's role was also a hilarious surprise and Daniel Radcliffe has a lot of fun as the villain. Now, all of that said, the movie is far from a masterpiece. The actual archeological adventure side of things is token at best, and the entire final act fell flat for me. Additionally, the humor doesn't all land, leaning on juvenile elements more often than I would like.
43 I There are only a few good films that starred Sandra Bullock and unfortunately, The Lost City is not one of them. This film starts strong and creative with how it introduced the characters. Loretta is a writer who gets old and unfamous, but because the charming Alan made her books have a good sell. Their interaction at the beginning of the film as a book characters grasp our attention and made us interested in the story but unfortunately, it did not go well afterward.
Many comedic moments hit and miss, unfortunately mostly miss. This kind of problem not only happened in this film but in almost all comedy films in general. The writing decision often chooses to make their characters dumb to create funny moments. Sometimes it is work, sometimes it did not. Thanks to Channing Tatum, his performance saved this film from cringy moments. His facial expression interacting with others is a golden comedy. His character called Allan could deliver funny moments through his dumb personality. But still, his dumbass brain was sometimes too much exploited for funny moments so the logic became a bit worse.
Another main character is Loretta played by Sandra Bullock. Sandra Bullock has a good performance in a serious space film created by Alfonso Cuaron called Gravity. But The Lost City is a comedy and hate to say it, Sandra Bullock's delivery was not good. It was not necessarily Sandra Bullock's fault. Loretta as a character herself is badly written. Her action contradicted her motivation and goal. If she cared about historical heritage, she could just help Abigail. But Loretta is not the worst written character in this film, the name that was written before this sentence is.
Abigail Fairfax made this potentially a great funny film, fall into the abyss of flop films. The first half of this film is so great, the appearance of Abigail who is played by Daniel Radcliffe is joyful to watch. But, when we slowly understand Abigail's character is getting ridiculous, in a bad way. This film did not need to be created if his character little bit better written. This kind of problematic writing also happened to the Mandarin, a character in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. They could just ask. Abigail made all of the things that happened in this film feel meaningless. Abigail Fairfax is a very one-dimensional character.
But, let's forget all of that negativity towards The Lost City. It is a comedy film. Who cares about a logical and rational story. Just have fun and watch this film with friends or family. There is still a good thing that this film has though, Brad Pitt. Jack Trainer and Alan is the perfect combination that this film ever has. They should make a film about them instead as the main focus. Jack Trainer's scenes are very hilarious even from the beginning he showed up on the screen. Some of us who watch Peaky Blinders will know the soundtrack in Jack Trainer scenes. He is an American Shelby.

I expected more, but it could've been worse
One of those films you wish they'd stop making.
I can't be mad at the cast, they get a lot of money for basically just having fun on a beautiful island...
But my god this is a really bad and uninspired movie. They could have at least written better dialogues, come on...
It is a lot of fun seeing this cast having fun with this comedic film, other than that it is not recommendable.
Boring. Nothing much happens in this movie, mostly dumb dialogues all the time. This is a one time watch only...
Ok, this was a pretty cute movie. Very predictable and trite, but everyone did a good job to just make it fun. It's kind of hard not to focus on the fact the Sandra Bullock's forehead doesn't ever move - EVER. Botox anyone?
This was a surprisingly enjoyable movie. I didn’t expect it to be as entertaining which is why I didn’t have high hopes. Lots of laughs.
So probably more like a 6.5. It's cute, typical Sandra Bullock storyline. It's not her best work but it is star studded. Probably time for Bullock to try an actual role outside of her stereotypical roles and preferably one where the guys aren't getting younger and younger. It's getting less and less believable each time.
Much more funny and entertaining that I expected. It made me laugh out loud several times. Sandra Bullock can still rock it!
This is the worst fucking movie ever…..
Cute but I liked it better when it was called Romancing the Stone!!!
Don't get me wrong, I quite liked and enjoyed the movie. Like @ak13 said, it delivers on the comedy a lot better than most comedies lately. But, is it me or is Sandra becoming kinda unlikable in her recent movies? Could be the botox making her emotions more wooden than usual. I mean her physical comedy is still the same as in Miss Congeniality days, but it's not quite as endearing as before. I don't know why.
An incredibly annoying film that uses the current most overused comedy tropes (bathos, references, meta jokes) in the most uninspired and lazy ways. It brings absolutely nothing to the table besides exhausted clichés, and the filmmaking is boring at every turn.
:heart:x6
Not gonna lie. This movie definitely had its fun moments. It is very much in the vein of "Romancing the Stone 1984". But, you might be better served to go and watch (or rewatch) "Romancing the Stone".
How I rate:
1-3  = seriously! don't waste your time
4-6  = you may or may not enjoy this
7-8  = I expect you will like this too
9-10  = movies and TV shows I really love!
One time watch. Not a movie to remember.
Some good action and great comedy that had me laughing quite often. It felt a bit long and the story was ok. Seeing all these great actors together was the best part.
Couldn't get watching past half an hour, so poor.
Was so looking forward to this having 2 of my fav starts in it, Had to turn it off about half way through, just could not get the whole channing tatum being a tosser thing, He does a really good action movie he should stick to it, it was really so predictable
The trailer had so much promise. Unfortunately the final film fell a little short.
A predictable, and only slightly amusing attempt at a "Romancing the stone" remake.
I don't know if the CG budget was blown on the background or Bullock's face.
They could have spent some of the lighting budget on the screenplay. Someone cranked up the heat on those puppies all the way to scorch. The same can't be said of the writing. The on-screen talent is charming but wasted. Don't go out like this, Sandy.
Just watch Romancing the stone. Really, just skip this and watch Romancing the stone.
This was just bad. Boring, generic, predictable, bloated, badly shot, horribly written. Maybe Brad Pitt was fine, for the whole 5 minutes he was in the movie , and some scenery shots were nice. That's all. I had to force myself to finish this, I was so bored. And the worst thing was Sandra Bullock. What did she do to her face? She looks so creepy, more plastic than a plastic mannequin. She talks, her face stays the same, she smiles and her face stays the same. Her face always looked the same. Like bad computer graphics.

Much more humorous than I figured it may be. Like Ahmed mentioned the movie flows pretty quickly and keeps you relatively engaged at each turn. Wasn’t anything that is going to win an award but I’d go back and buy the tickets again since we enjoyed it.
