6 films, and one ring to rule them all... These films never get old, indeed some beautiful work by Peter Jackson. A great picture, full on action packed, with a smashing cast!
A great film, no matter how many times I've seen it, still great
There is probably little value to new reviews for these movies, but I will add to what is already there. Even though, being fantasy movies, they aren't particularly my cup of tea, they are masterpieces in their own category. Amazing world created by the writer and depicted here by the director. So many emotions and values that span most of what a human can feel. Just beautiful. P.S. I understand it was not written in this day and age so some things tend to be "cringey".
"I know. It's all wrong. By rights we shouldn't even be here. But we are. It's like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger, they were. And sometimes you didn't want to know the end. Because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it's only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you. That meant something, even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back, only they didn't. They kept going. Because they were holding on to something."
When the films first came out I always loved this one the most all because of the Battle of Helm's Deep and still it looks good and everything is clearly shown. The action is phenomenal and Legolas using a shield as skate board of sorts is still epic and in between we have all those great lines by Gimli! Gimli steals the show here for young me!
But now that I'm older it might not longer be my favorite of the three films but it is still epic and such amazing work by Peter Jackson and his crew to make a difficult film with no beginning and end to be this engaging. Yes, the beginning is a bit slow but many pieces need to be set in place for the final film but we get the great Wormtongue (Brad Dourif), Gollum is still fun to see and I just love the Ents more every time I see them. How about the part in the Dead Marshes? Loved the looks of that location! The Worg battle and the whole chasing after Merry and Pippin through the beautful landscapes! Love it!
So many things to mention but what do you expect with a three and a half hour long film? Like I said in my review of the Fellowship, if you watch these, watch the extended versions. They really add so much!
Can't wait to watch Return of the King later this week!
It has the unfortunate position of being neither the one that introduces us to a beautiful world nor does it give the epic conclusion but it does do a great job of setting everything up for the finale.
I really don't care much for treebeard though.
Battle at helmsdeep is epic and I love the banter between Gimli and Frodo.

This is one of those movies you need an 11th heart in the rating.
