Pat Carroll and Clancy Brown are the only factors that make this worth watching once.

It actually feels like an installment that's ripping itself off, it's a major rehash of the first film, due to the fact that it seems to overly rely on nostalgia to get you to like it. It recreates a handful of scenes from the original and the plot's practically the same (Girl wants to be part of a diff. world, makes a deal with a sea witch, gets help to solve it). It's a shame too because I really see the potential it had, it could've been a whole lot better if it didn't heavily rely on nostalgia and re-use so many things from the original.

One should probably not analyze this too harshly but I cannot help but say this was bad. I liked the first one, I really did. This is a direct-to-disc release and it shows everywhere. Seems like Disney themselves were not convinced it would do well in cinema. It follows the usual blueprint of essential good ve evil. A young main character that feels she's treated wrong by her parents, who makes some bad decisions, but in the end does the right thing. Nothing new in that regard. Animation looks cheap, must have had a smaller budget. Not particulary funny either.
What can I say - I didn't like it. But I am sure that children won't mind all the flaws an adult sees. So please, if you have children go ahead and let them watch.

Such a lovely sequel to the original classic Disney fairytale. Obviously not anywhere near as good as the first, but has some catchy songs and is a good follow-up with new and old characters.

I've seen this movie a lot as a kid so it has a bit of nostalgia for me even though I didn't remember much of it.

The story isn't great and the songs aren't memorable but I still found it quite a fun and cute movie.

Excited for the third movie, which I've never seen and has an okay IMDb rating!

A good sequel.

'The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea' makes for a pleasing follow-up to the original 1989 film, it's arguably Disney's best sequel up until this point; surpassing 'Cinderella III: A Twist in Time' for that honour, in my humble opinion. 'The Little Mermaid' is still superior, but everything here bar the songs are on the same wavelength in terms of enjoyment.

Jodi Benson and Samuel E. Wright both return in the roles of Ariel and Sebastian, while Pat Carroll also comes back but in a different capacity as Morgana - she voiced Ursula in the preceding production. I like Morgana's water minions, especially Clancy Brown's Undertow. Tara Strong is involved as Melody, who gets two decent sidekicks in Tip (Max Casella) and Dash (Stephen Furst).

The premise is slightly similar to the first, though they mix things up sufficiently to keep it feeling fresh; the only time it feels repetitive to me is with Morgana herself, I enjoy the rest to be honest. I'm obviously not saying it's a perfect film, but it entertained me and that's all you want from a sequel honestly.

This is one of a handful of Disney sequels that actually surpasses the original. That's not saying much, though.
