Man people are tearing this movie apart. To be honest, it wasn’t the best, but it wasn’t all that bad either. I definitely walked away not wishing I could have my time back. It was a really good concept on the story of how Dracula got from Romania to England, but it would of been nice to see more of the story before he was already in the process of being shipped. Some of the character build up a dialogue could of been better, but over all it enjoyed it for what it was.

Such an average movie. Like... I don't even know what to say about it. I mean the weather effects were kinda cool?

Story wasn't really there, and the monster was never really well-defined nor was it scare or cool. It's just there.

loading replies

I was questioning who directed this move (The Autopsy of Jane Doe, Troll Hunter) and who wrote it (Bullet Train). Are these the same people? Because I enjoyed their previous work, but I am left baffled by this uninspired, painfully average flick. Demeter's fateful journey to England is one of my favorite parts of Dracula: the limited set, the foreboding storm, the crew that is picked off one by one by an invisible force. This movie has no idea what makes horror effective beyond cheap jump scares. What makes Dracula so much more effective, is that the monster is not a generic creature, but a supernatural man of ancient power, mystery, intelligence, and menace. All of that is lacking in the movie. The characters are also not very compelling, and have very limited backstory of no impact. I feel like everyone involved was assigned homework they didn't feel like doing, so they slapped together his mediocre piece. Too bad because I had high hopes, considering my love for the original material. Also, the dog dies, and I don't like it .

This movie was not as bad as people are making it out to be. I really loved how the ship logs from the book got all the attention for this movie. It kept me entertained throughout the whole movie. What else is there to ask of a movie than to be entertained? It may not be a must watch but it definitely is not a waste of time. That's for sure.

loading replies

It's a bad movie and it's boring as heck. It started off ok but then quickly turned to poop. An hour and a half into it I was wishing it would end. They torture us with terrible dialogue and some pathetic attemps at being profound. The burning special effects are unacceptably bad. To seal the crapiness deal they end with a cliff hanger that would suggest they are hoping to make a part 2 - fat chance!

loading replies

Boring and predictable. While the visuals and SFX are pretty good, the characters are bland and Dracula is just shown as a beasty ghoul with no charisma.

loading replies

It was a decent Dracula movie. It's a limited number of people stuck on a boat, so they did with it what they could.

loading replies

I was very interested in the movie once I watched the trailer, but unfortunately it's not that good. They added some characters to make the ship crew a little bit more interesting (in the novel this chapter is taken from the Captain's diary and he never describes his crew, besides mentioning the doctor); the additions being a little boy, nephew of the captain, which is clearly meant to be a sacrifice; a black doctor to introduce a little bit of ethnic differentiation; and a female co-protagonist (which, in my opinion, was the worst character).
The main thing that bothered me however is the ending. In fact, Clemens (the doctor and protagonist) not only survives the Demetr, but even dares to look for Dracula in a pub, claiming he'll be the one to eradicate him from the face of Earth. I mean, at least the kid and the girl died, but the perfect ending should have had even Clemens die on the ship...
Worth mentioning Dracula's design: it's really cool and the only worthy part of the film. More monster than man or vampire.

I enjoyed this movie. However the story would of benefited from fleshing out the villain. Too much time is wasted on the crew, it's almost like the director was trying to make it to two hours without going over budget. Unfortunately this movie will be forgotten and what could of been never will be.

This movie left a lot to be desired. The storyline at time made no sense. Well watch this movie with very low expectation do not over think otherwise your experience will be ruined. Is it a MUST WATCH. Well it is a MEH for me.

loading replies

i like it ... however give us sequel of Dracula untold :expressionless:

not a bad movie.. 6.5, the ending pretty much like Dracula untold

This was brilliantly executed and suspenseful. Score was fantastic, too.

loading replies

This is the kind of movie that had ideas , but were let down by poor execution. The set up was very superficial, which led to very superficial plot(s) and character arcs. There's a second where you're almost intrigued whether there's something else to this monster... is there something deeper going on? ...And then it's never touched on again. Once you realise it ain't that deep, you can let loose and have a laugh (genuinely) like I did on how they portray this Dracula. Jokes aside, I feel this could have done better as a TV show, where you can set up these characters before you just create a murder-fest. The AMC Interview with the Vampire show does this genre of select piece novel-to-screen adaptation much better than this movie will ever do. So just watch that instead...

Like a one-floor house in a suburb: flat and no story.

What starts off as a really good idea (what happened to the crew on the boat that brought Dracula to England) makes some good decisions but eventually founders with uneven pacing and is scuttled by its shallow storytelling.

(There is also a slight anachronism in that the film claims to be based on Stoker's Dracula [which does discuss the Demeter's voyage], but in Stoker's version vampires can exist in daylight unscathed, while in this film they cannot.)

A visually stunning movie perfect for Halloween. Though no one survived in the book. It was obvious throughout that Clemens would most likely survive.

loading replies

Let's start on a positive note: "The Last Voyage of the Demeter" is quite atmospheric, features surprisingly good production values, and has a couple of decent peaks of violence. Accordingly, the movie is quite entertaining at times, but its merits cannot hide the fact that it is unnecessarily long. In the Dracula versions I've seen so far, the boat journey was usually a rather short section; here, the decision was made to stretch this part out to around 120 minutes, although 90 would probably have sufficed. This makes "The Last Voyage of the Demeter" more lengthy overall than it should have been. That said, there are certainly worse Dracula films out there.

loading replies

Detestable.
For all Bram Stoker readers, this film is undoubtedly an insult to the elaborate character that Dracula is, not to mention that the story is not even an adaptation but a reinterpretation that distorts the original story.

The look is interesting, if it were in another context, with another theme it would be a great film.

loading replies

I think we can all see the people involved genuinely tried to make a good movie. I just think they didn't know if they wanted to make horror or fantasy and ended up failing at both.

I can't recommend this to anyone... While it's not aweful. It was a snoozefest.

loading replies

Not the greatest movie but not as bad as some describe it. Anyone who has read Dracula knows how it ends. At the very beginning of the movie they said there were no survivors. I don't know why they decided to tack on the Hollywood ending. His final narrative statement gives false hope that there's more to his story, but we all know how the story ends and it doesn't include him.

loading replies

This was actually quite good in my opinion. I like that it‘s not the usual Dracula story we already have seen a number of times but tells the story of how Dracula came to London on board the Demeter. The visuals and the soundtrack were great as well. So overall a good monster flick.

loading replies

I was moderately hyped for this movie but it didn't do much for me. Found it a bit dull and didn't care much for the characters. Looks good and the acting isn't bad but not my thing.

Craziest thing was seeing Mo from Thuis, had no idea he starred in anything except Thuis and sadly didn't know/forgot he passed away last year.

loading replies

I like Dracula, I love horror, I appreciate adaptations of stories. This one, was fine. It moved a bit slow at points and dragged on a ways. I can't help but feel there is a much better 90-minute cut of this film somewhere.

Rating: 2/5 - 65% - Not Recommended to Everyone

loading replies

I'm not quite sure why this movie exists...but it does. It's too long by at least 20 minutes and there's minimal tension since the opening of the movie pretty much tells you where things end up, so you don't really care about anyone. Removing those issues from the equation, this was a decent period piece monster flick. Honestly it could have been a lot worse, but was capably made and decently acted. You could do worse.

loading replies

Again, too woke to be true. A black doctor, a crew so dumb that they couldnt throw the cargo away. They try to initiate a woke Drácula, i hope a second part Will sink before Sail.

loading replies

A good beginning film for the dracula series (though I don't know if it will continue).

We watch the tense journey of a group of sailors who need to deliver urgent cargo to London, starting from the Black Sea with a cargo they do not know what it is.

There are some logic mistakes, but we can also attribute this to the ignorance of the sailors and the fact that they are criminal offenders.

It is nice that the vampire resembles the vampires of Skyrim, but it would be more appropriate to learn about his past thanks to the girl on the ship.

I think everyone agrees that the visuals are bad.

In short, it is a production that will not regret to utilise the free time.

Meh, I will rate this movie Dracula is an hobo/10, cute tophat tho

loading replies

Basing a movie on 3 chapters in the original book, this movie takes a short anecdote in a classic horror novel and makes into a CGI festival of boredom. Ho-hum.

loading replies

The voyage of Dracula across the seas to London was a tale that I always wanted to see put to film. Unfortunately, this movie did not put enough of an emphasis on this actually being Dracula. Yes, it was stated in the movie by the characters, and some of the lore was set up at the start, but once they set sail on the Demeter, it turned into another demon-beast just killing victims.

Dracula's monstrous form looked great, there just wasn't enough of the "human" part of him portrayed. The movie looked good and the characters were interesting enough that they were not just monster fodder. Maybe there wasn't enough Dracula-as-a-plague, either. It was constantly stated that he needed to feed, but that's not the same as his bat and rat, disease-carrying, rabid animal characteristics.

loading replies

Despite the source material a very mediocre implementation further ruined by some Hollywood hack that couldn't even let a Dracula movie go with cramming woke preaching BS into it.

loading replies

When we know the ending from the beginning, it is not a very suspenseful film, unfortunately we know what to expect. But the atmosphere of 19th-century sailing ships is a plus.

loading replies

The Last Voyage of the Demeter is a terrifying horror film based on Bran Stoker’s Dracula. The story follows the cargo ship Demeter as it sails from Bulgaria to London, and its crew discovers that there’s a creature aboard that’s is killed them off one by one. The writers do a good job at creating interesting characters and at building suspense and tension as the murders are discovered and the hunt for the creature rackets up. Additionally, the production values are especially well-done; the sets, the costumes, the music, the special effects. And the creature design for Dracula pays a nice homage to Nosferatu. However, the Dracula character is underserviced; only appearing in a few scenes. Yet despite its weaknesses, The Last Voyage of the Demeter is a chilling film full of mystery and intrigue.

"A boat without rats - such a thing is against nature."

I love movies about classic monsters and that have great concept art behind them. This has that, but there is something that feels a little bland behind the beautiful color grading. The very end is cool though.

Why does every movie with a simple plot now have to be 2 hours long? Bring 80 or 90-minute movies back, please. I'm begging.

Anyway, the cast did a good job and I particularly enjoyed seeing Liam Cunningham, but overall, it's just a meh movie.

MAYBE if this wasn't longer than necessary it could've been better, but what do I know?

loading replies

Some decent atmospheric moments here and there, but overall it felt like a monumental slog to get through. That and I don't know if it was a bad hdr transfer but the picture was impossibly black for large portions which made it difficult to see nevermind enjoy. 4.5

loading replies

Maybe, just maybe if you've never seen a vampire movie before, or the first two Alien movies, you might not find it to be so yawnfully boring.

yet another horror for the tweenagers.

loading replies

Was good but needed to develop more likeable or meaningful characters for me to truly enjoy it. The effects and Dracula were great, just needed some work on the story. Also not slipping in the hint of racism for a Dracula movie and focusing on other things would have been better.

loading replies

Good film....I can see why it didn't do well in theaters however. Run time and British accents tend to turn off American audiences. However if you want a good horror film you won't have to look far past TLVOTD.

loading replies

Not a waste of time but script was poor after a certain point it could be way better.Good cinematography, good acting from all actors and i liked the atmosphere but it wasn't scary. The last scenes was the dissapointing part for me except that i enjoyed this movie. 6.3/10

loading replies

Not bad, but not great either. If you have nothing else to watch then it's worth a watch.

loading replies

Very good acting, awesome set and effects, but the screenplay was weak and just not scary.

loading replies

The Problem with the movie is everybody knows about Dracula's lore. And for the entirety of the movie, we are waiting for the characters to solve the mystery that the audience is well aware of, and how the story is going to end. Otherwise it is shot well enough and has good spooky atmosphere. Just perplexed as to why they chose to tell another Dracula story albeit the voyage has not been done extensively. But still we have more than enough adaptations of Dracula or Nosferatu.

loading replies

Loved this movie.
I thought it was very well done. Great to see a little different angle to the Dracula story. Plot was well thought out and executed. If you enjoy horror films, I’m sure you’re going to love this movie as I did. Worth watching again.

loading replies

Oh, this story again.

Somehow they are unable to figure out the source of their problems even with the crazy warnings about the MAN SIZED BOXES with the "dragon symbols" on them just a few days ago when they left port.

Never took Dracula for a silly creature. Why is Dracula a thirsty silly creature? The creators seem to have made more effort promoting for this movie than in the actual film.

"We tried to stop him. If we didn’t succeed, God have mercy on your souls."

A very simple premise; Dracula on a boat killing people. Works for me! The boat set looks neat and I love the whole setting of the movie taking place on the sea, there's nowhere to go. Love the look they gave Dracula it's similar to the one in Midnight Mass but more like a giant bat. Lots of appearances and the effects are decent enough. Excellent twist on the vampire abilities and what happens if someone gets bit too. Some awesome bloody kills, good acting, the runtime's a bit long and entertaining throughout. I enjoyed most of the characters but Anna felt a bit empty. It did an excellent job at making me anxious whenever the night falls in the movie and those scenes were always effectively creepy. The kid had some of the best sequences of the movie, the running away scene was probably my favorite.

An open ending might be good for a sequel or something but it limited the epicness that could have been at the end. I was still waiting for a big moment.

:heart:x6
This is not a bad movie, it just didn't really grab me and keep me on the edge of my seat. There wasn't really anything new here story-wise. It is billed as Horror but it felt really mild to me.

How I rate:
1-3  = seriously! don't waste your time
4-6  = you may or may not enjoy this
7-8  = I expect you will like this too
9-10  = movies and TV shows I really love!

It seemed like such a good idea in the trailers. But it really wasn't that great.
I liked the dialogue but the characters all seemed a bit too dumb and passive when fighting against Dracula.

Screen version of Stoker's Dracula minor story arc about the ship on which the coffins with a vampire from Transylvania arrived in London. Excellent scenery, costumes, serial actors .. but alas, by. It seems that instead of a gothic horror movie you are watching a strange version of "Aliens". Even as if Ripley is also here, this is Dracula's "leech", and she also sacrifices herself so as not to spread vampirism around the world. But to hell with it all, but it's boringly filmed.

loading replies

One of the better suspenseful Dracula stories out there! everyone was fantastic at playing their part. Love the idea of taking the captain's log and expanding it to a film.

I'm really struggling to see what people dislike about this film, beautiful score, excellent atmosphere, superb acting. Suspenseful pacing!

Don't miss this one from a few bad reviews!

loading replies

Solid creature feature starring everyones favourite Transylvanian. Compelling and well produced, it's a fun ride with some PG13 compliant deaths and a decent cast of characters who all bring admirable performances. I especially liked the look of Dracula himself in this movie, just visually striking/mean looking with his eyes glinting in the darkness. Possibly runs about 15 minutes too long, but still enjoyed my time with it all in all.

loading replies

It's pretty good and I liked the atmosphere. But not all movies need to be 2 hours long. The pacing would've benefited if they cut about a half hour out.
