A combination of not scary and an ambiguous ending that doesn't seem satisfying whichever way you dissect it. Trailer looked promising, but it was a snooze in reality.
Decent slow burning chiller. A rather simple plot but absolutely loaded with atmosphere. It does take a little bit for it to take off but when it does the wait becomes well worth it. The jumping back and forth works really well. The incorporation of folklore and black magic is deftly interwoven into the plot. The sound, the performances, and the stylistic decisions are what make this film unnerving. I'm not sure if dividing it into chapters is necessary but the film successfully creates that air of dread in each one, delivers the skillful and delicate scares, and most importantly it's able to keep the tension going right up until the effective ending.

The last thing I saw was this slow, ponderous, and occasionally atmospheric period chiller. Due to a muddled script, it didn’t draw me in to its lurid charms.
