I think Jon Favreau is an absolute genius but my god is this movie boring. Also the acting of the kid is poor and I can't seem to get out of the uncanny valley with this one.
Surprisingly bad. It looks great but that's about all it has going for it.
One of the most breathtaking films ever made. The animated animals look crazy realistic which helps you believe in the film. A fabulous retelling of the original Disney animation.
The movie itself is great. The CGI is absolutely incredible. As usual, superb quality from Disney.
Soulless, corporate regurgitate of the original animated film. The casting seemed off, as if the suits decided to look at a list of popular actors and actresses at the time and slap them in the movie (and I love all those who participated in the movie... just not like this). The pacing was just okay. Not a fan of realistic looking talking animals, it just... Feels very goofy. All the musical numbers were done in such a way as to seem casual and playful, but at the cost of them actually being enjoyable songs. The CGI actually looked decent for the most part. Just altogether a disappointing movie.
And to be really nitpicky, the Himalayan Brown Bear does in fact go into hibernation. I'm sure it's fine for the kids, however.
With an impeccable mix of live action, CGI and a stampede of adventure, "The Jungle Book" proves Disney is once again king of the jungle.
This was the perfect adaptation for The Jungle Book! The voice actors were absolutely stellar and brought so much credibility to the CGI-characters. The VFX itself is a contender (and I hope the winner) at the Oscars 2017. The scenarios were tear-dropping to the eyes (in the good way) and the animals were portrayed with so much detail that makes you wanna live with panthers, bears and wolves!
Overall, I consider this another success from Disney that rebooted this so well!
best live action of the jungle book period.....only thing i didn't really care about was Christopher walkin doing the voice of king louie. my only downfall of that film
Really, really worth the watch! The visual effects/cinematography were absolutely gorgeous and the animals were all so believeable. Some of the voice actors were perhaps an odd choice but the movie was still gorgeous and really emotional! Not sure how some have rated this movie so low, it was a joy to watch and little Neel Sethi did a brilliant job considering he was acting by himself for the whole film.
Better than the original. Jon Favreau respected the original but also added a few interesting things to keep the movie fresh and not just another remake.
Loved this version of Shere Khan, that actually does something in the movie (unlike the 1967's version). I also liked the fact that Favreau give more attention to Mowgli's family (the wolves).
The voice casting for this movie was top-notch. Since Idris Elba (my personal favourite), the always amazing Bill Murray, Sir Ben Kingsley, Christopher Walken, etc.
The kid, Neel Sethi, was also amazing (for what he had to do) in his first movie.
Jon Favreau, if "The Lion King" is going to be like this i'm going to be very satisfied.
Honey..ya put it on, ya lick it off....I put it..ehhhhhhhverywhere
This movie is AWESOME!!
Loved it.
Probably the best live action adaption from an animated work Disney has done so far. If the quality is even close to this as they adapat their other films then i look forward to seeing them all.
Perfect voice cast, Everyone blended really well into their characters to the point that is all i saw. I saw Ballo and not Bill Murrary ect. I feel this exceeds the movie it was based from and it is my favourite film from 2016.
Great film, almost flawless however there were couple of core story components that were missing, found in the original Kipling stories. Albeit, they did a fantastic job considering the difficulties that must of been encountered trying to create a film like this with nothing more than a single child actor. Whether or not any actual Jungle locations were used or whether it was a complete studio production is so difficult to spot that it really did not matter. 10/10.
Mowgli is a “man-cup” who is raised by wolfs, and they are his family. Once the tiger Shere Khan finds out about Mowgli his presents in the jungle, he won’t stop at nothing till he gets the boy killed. Mowgli has to flee from the wolfpack and ends up in another part of the jungle where he makes new friends and enemies. Once Mowgli hears of a tragic event that happend back at his home with the wolfs, he goes back to fight Shere Khan with the Red Flower (aka fire).
Everything, and I mean, everything in this movie looked so real. I know most of it is animated but I really got confused sometimes, the special effects were amazing. I’m very interested in seeing how exactly they filmed everything. Neel Sethi (who plays Mowgli) did a great job, when you think about it, he probably had to act with a lot of green walls and shapes. The parts where he had to talk weren’t sometimes as great, but I think he really did a good Mowgli. I saw this movie in IMAX 3D and most of the time I’m not very impressed with the 3D, but I loved it in this movie! There were a few times when water came at you and even stuck on the “camera”, I really liked that, it gave even more dimension.
The voice actors really fitted their animals, or the other way around. It was just right. Bill Murray as Baloo brought some fun laughs. All the animals in The Jungle Book looked magnificent, and they where so large. It was really impressive. All the nature was so detailed, the home of King Louie looked really great. King Louie looked really impressive as well, and I don’t know if it’s just me, but when I looked at him I felt like I was really looking at Christopher Walken (That doesn’t really sound like a compliment now does it, haha), his eyes just had that little something in there, I don’t know. I liked it. Although I didn’t really liked really liked that scene in particular, it didn’t brought much to the story. I can’t really remember the old Jungle Book, so I can’t really judge story wise, but I really liked it and it felt like the movie ended before I even realized it.
I really enjoyed watching The Jungle Book. Everything looked so beautiful and realistic, I can only imagine how many great things they can do with this technology. It was one of the first times I really listened and enjoyed the music in a movie, it fitted perfectly and gave an even more wonderful experience to it all.
Far better of a live action Disney adaption than Maleficent that tried too hard to make a villain a hero. The Jungle Book sticks to the original material and is a charming well made adaption. Even if it does make some minor changes of it's own.
This was much better than expected! I thought that it would be quite boring and kinda like a nature documentary but instead I found it pretty exciting to watch. The CGI and animations where also pretty impressive, especially given the age of the movie. Sometimes it looked a bit like a computer game (i.e. less realistic lighting) but I found that funny tbh. I also really liked the CGI scenes during the end credits.
I had heard tremendous things about this film, and I have to say, while it's certainly possible that my expectations were set too high, I was disappointed in the end-product. Of course, Kipling's story is a classic, and the CGI was gorgeous, but the problem I had was w/ the development of the Mowgli character. Through the first hour of the film, I found him rather off-putting. He was incredibly selfish and obstinate and dismissive of those around him. I really didn't like him at all. I also found it odd that the opening scene showed how athletic he was supposed to have been, considering he was raised by wolves, but in the scene, where he's attempting to get the fruit out of the tree, he literally can't jump more than six inches off the ground? For whatever reason, this really strained my suspension of disbelief, and I found myself not particularly enjoying the film. Ultimately, the rating I gave the film was based on the remarkable cast, the CGI, and Kipling's story, even if they strayed from its roots.

The Good:
The CGI is great, the production design meticulous and the visuals lively and realistic.
Bill Murray seems to have a great time as Baloo, while Ben Kingsley makes for a natural Bagheera.
Christopher Walken as King Louie is the best thing this film has to offer.
I like the way this version offers more insight on the life and law of the jungle, rather than just explaining it all away as fantasy. In that sense, the Jungle Book remake is more grounded in reality than the animated original.
The Bad:
Neel Sethi ranges from okay to pretty bad, particularly in the more emotionally intense moments.
Some of the sound mixings are off; the music is so loud that voices such as Bagheera's are barely heard.
They kept the two classic songs from the original in pretty bland and forgettable versions.
Shere Khan never feels like a palpable threat and remains a side player until the end.
The Ugly:
Give me a Kaa spinoff with Scarlett Johansson right away!
VERDICT:
Visually stunning and conceptually realistic, the Jungle Book remake faithfully recreates the animated Disney classic without adding in any extra flavours.

Great live action transfer of the original animation. The voices are on point too.
Walt Disney continues their live- action adaptions of their animated classics with Jon Faveau’s The Jungle Book (though live-action is a bit misleading as all the animals are CGI creations). When a tiger named Shere Khan threatens to kill a boy who’s been raised by a wolf pack, they decide to return him to the local human village for his own protection, but the trek is a long and dangerous one. Featuring the voice talents of Bill Murray, Idris Elba, Christopher Walken, and Scarlett Johansson, the film has an impressive cast. And the computer animation is exceptionally good and remarkable photorealistic (though the seams show from time to time). Also, the score does a nice job at working in the original themes and songs from the animated version. However, nothing is really gained from the live-action format. Still, The Jungle Book is a solid family film that’s entertaining and fun.
It doesn’t make any sense according to the book story. Only a live action remake of the Disney version, again NO the original one.
oh boy,I Know Nothing about the books. But for me this movie is a masterpiece.
The CGI is really amazing, also the script.
Se você for assistir esse filme, não assista o dublado que é -1/10
I watched this movie expecting very little. I just wanted to remember the tale, since it had been so long. OMG, I was floored by the intensity and the message behind the move. Never before has Disney been able to surpass an original, and do so in a non animated form is simply amazing. I recommend this to everyone.
Bill Murray - excellent, Idris Elba - excellent, Christopher Walken - Really, Really excellent, and Scarlett Johanesen - amazing.
This is without a doubt a very good family movie. Many people seem to compare it unfavorably with the “original” animated movie from Walt Disney. To me these are quite different movies and should not really be compared. I have not read the book but I have a feeling that this movie follows the book more closely. It is a wee bit darker, more serious and incredibly beautiful to watch.
I quite liked the original jungle book movie. It was one of my favorites when I was a kid. I am therefore quite happy that this was not just a “dumb” remake with modern CGI and that I quite liked this take of the classic story. This movie is, as I wrote, much more serious and a wee bit darker. It is less of a children’s movie than the original.
The wolves are getting much more time in this movie which is good. Mowgli’s opponents are also much less comical and much more sinister. Kaa is a beastly snake with no remorse, King Louie is a huge, scheming, and tyrannical ape King and finally Shere Khan is a ruthless, human hating, tiger that kills anyone or anything that stands in his way.
The CGI is top notch as far as I am concerned. The jungle scenery is absolutely stunning and it is really worth watching the movie just for the scenery. Combined with a classic adventure story that is not half bad makes for a really a good movie.
I was definitely positively surprised by this movie. For me it is a big success.
Flawless adaptation of The Jungle Book! The animation, story, acting everything's perfect!
I think they did a great job of blending the live action with CGI. Having Walken suddenly appear in gorilla form was a bit jarring, probably much less so for kids who wouldn't recognize his voice immediately.
Great remake. Fascinating 3d animation. Although we all know the story it still manages to thrill. Give it a try you won't regret it.
it's like Mini-Tarzan! i enjoyed it a lot and especially to watch with family (kids). nice story and the way it got together and loved the humor as well, the bear is funny Bill Murray is a LEGEND!. U GOTTA WATCH THIS MOVIE!

A spectacle. I've always imagined this kind of reimagination of a more grounded Disney. This is the only 'remake' of this era I've seen so I hope the others e.g. Cinderella, Beauty & The Beast... are as good!
The only thing I could miss on this movie is more freedom for Bill Murray to exploit all the potential in Baloo. You get a glimpse of it during the temple scene, but that's too little!
A fine and sweet family movie by Disney. The visuals were amazing and the story was beautiful. A really good adaptation.
Fantastic!
I love all of Disney's originals and my heart drops when I read about any remakes or adaptations. However, this one is just superb and I will probably watch it again. Neel Sethi was remarkable and Christopher Walken with his gangster-type accent as King Louie just finished it off for me.
why is it animated and not the movie version in the pic.... smh I don't want to see this crap!
#ShiftvW8
loved watching movie. very good Animation, also the best part was the song by Mr. RICHARD MORTON SHERMAN. "I WANA BE LIKE U O OOOO".
Hmmmmm, when I pressed play, all I got was an animated version. It did not play the one shown. #ShiftvW8
I have a weird thought: If Mowgli was a feral child, shouldn't he be walking on all fours? >.< okay. I know, I know.. in the books or the animated movie, he walks upright..but still tho.. it's a thought. lol
O necessário, somente o necessário, o extraordinário é demais...
Terrific adaptation of Kipling's story. Superb special effects, wonderful acting by the young lead, and Christopher Walken singing. Let's hope Andy Serkis' reworking of the story due next year is as good or even better. If not, he'll be singing 'Ooo Ooo I wanna be like you' to the makers of this cinematic treat!
As someone who didn't read the books but did watch the original animated Disney movie a lot, this movie left me a bit divided.
On the one side it is a beautiful, well designed and neatly worked out movie, with astonishing CGI, visuals, (voice) acting and a modernised more appropriately paced story. On the other hand some of the characters contradicted themselves or felt unnatural to me, and some of them became obsolete to a point.
Since it is easier to whine, I will mostly do that during this review :P
To start off with Mowgli, first he offers to leave (something that felt very unnatural to me for a boy that age) and moments later he doesn't want to anymore. This could have been handled much more smoothly. Baloo is a lazy, blackmailing assh*le at first, and never really recovers from that character damage. I also did not particular liked the God-like image of the elephants, nor the grumpy Louie that didn't seem to have any sense of humour in him. And then we have Kaa, who makes 1 appearance in the movie and does not add anything at all to the progression of the story.
It also mirrored a lot of scenes from other (famous) movies. The most prominent ones: In the end Shere Khan tries to get Mowgli to turn to the dark side like a real emperor of Star Wars, but before this happens the 'Disney factor' swings in, and suddenly every single animal jumps in (sigh) to help Mowgli. There is no Baloo near-tragedy (one of the strongest parts of the animation) and it makes you wonder why those pricks (the jungle animals) let Khan kill Akela in the first place... And with the death of Shere Khan we go full on Lion King when Scar kills Mufasa. Maybe it was a failed attempt to make an 'homage' to the reuse of stock images in the original animated jungle book by Disney, but it was horrible to watch.
Last but not least they added 2 deaths to the movie, something I didn't really think is necessary in a movie like this, which has more than enough emotional and moral themes to build on.
Even though the animated Disney movie (apparently) did change a lot about the original story, I thought the animated story was very straightforward and without errors, even though a bit comedic and slow at places. The live action version successfully transports the story into a new century, but it does trade in some of its strengths because of that.
It became and IS a great movie to watch in the end, but I will much rather recommend the almost 50 year old earlier version.
Broadly similar in plot to the animated version, Favreau manages to bring an increased sense of danger to the film that the animated one lacked, principally by keeping the character of Shere Khan a much more prominent threat throughout, but also removing most of the songs that form an integral part of that version, making characters like Kaa and Louie much more menacing here. It never becomes too dark and remains a film that children can enjoy, but it is an interesting alternative to the original rather than just a straight remake and the filmmakers have actually created a much stronger plot that feels less episodic in nature. The film is equally stunning to look at and newcomer Neel Sethi is largely effective as the only live-action character, but is helped enormously by the strong voice cast around him. The key songs, when they do come can't help but pale in comparison to what came before and in many ways feel superfluous to the story they are telling here, but like the film itself they are clever alternatives that work within the tone of the film shown.
I honestly thought it was terrible. I could see how this film would be satisfying for fans of the animated film (which I remember I saw as a child, but that's about it), and it looked pretty stunning, but it just had me bored out of my mind throughout.
Wow... Such a great version of The Jungle Book! Loved everything about it
Excellent and impeccable, as it is said in the other comments. My favorite Disney adaptation from the animated classic films so far, undoubtedly!! I wanna see this in the Oscars next year!
That movie was good, really good! Loved the characters and the voices of the actors are perfect! All of them did a great job! :) Great adaptation of a classic book! Perfect and relaxing movie for families!
The musical numbers felt a bit forced and Mowgli was a bit annoying and sassy, but this adaptation of The Jungle Book sure did show us the diversity of the jungle through a beautiful atmosphere. Scarlett Johansson as Kaa was perfect, and Ben Kingsley makes a great Bagheera.

I really enjoyed see again those amazing characters in a movie. I love Bagheera and Baloo so much.

I thought this movie was GREAT! It is an enjoyable updating of the Disney animated movie, with plenty of homages included. Voice talent was top-notch and Idris Elba as Shere Khan the tiger was threatening and menacing and well-done. Bill Murray is a spot-on Baloo and Neel Sethi does a great job as Mowgli (especially considering the kid is acting with CG animals the whole time). I liked what Jon Favreau did with the story. It even brought tears to my eyes a couple of times.
