I was expecting this movie to be cute and funny and feel-good but it was a lot more than that and I am so happy! It was very touching and I spent a lot of it quietly weeping hahaha and it has such a good message <3 I wouldn't change any bit of it...except for her staying with the guy at the end - what was up with that?! But all in all it was sooo good and I highly recommend it.
The film is just perfect! Never a dull moment. But there is a clear division into two main themes. In the first part, we have the comedy we expect for and we laugh tons. In the second part, it becomes more sober and dramatic, but that's what make the film so special.
The intern brings nothing new and is slightly overlong, but it's a charming little treat for comedy fans, and it's one of Robert De Niro's better late period movies in a while.
"Charming", describes this whole movie in just 1 word. Great roles by DeNiro and Anne Hathaway.
Sometimes, watching a light hearted feel-good movie is all you need.
Anne Hathaway is such a great actress. She's way underrated for her acting, she is always looked at for her good looks, but her acting is really highlighted in this movie, Get Smart, etc.
This was the first time I've seen any Robert De Niro movie, however, I'd always heard of him. I'm a huge fan. Absolutely great.
I'm a bit sad about the ending. I was hoping that Ben would end up being the CEO.
Such a nice movie and loved the relationship between the main characters. So nice to see that in the end we are all human-ish, and Love is all that fits it in. #ShiftvW8
i was expecting this movie to be decent maybe good but i was so happily surprised by the fact that i spent most of it smiling more than i have in a long time... I normally find this sort of film boring and quite cheesy and slow but it wasn't boring and wasn't a dull moment throughout the movie if it's even possible to write it i want an INTERN 2! LOVE IT <3
You go from watching Anne Hathaway playing the role of an intern against "The Devil" (Meryl Streep) and here she is playing the boss, while De Niro plays the Intern. Well done film makers, well done!
This movie is truly a feel good movie. Hathaway's role is like Miranda Priestly, but so much down to earth. They both get their job done, they both want results and they both love their jobs. Jules (aka the Boss) is like the warmer side to Miranda. She cares for the company she started, she loves her job and has devoted all waking hours to it.
De Niro is amazing. He's such a phenomenal actor, that it's so good to watch him in this movie giving fatherly-like advice to Jules. The ending was a bit of a disappointment, but still I liked that she doesn't give up on the dream that she and her company can make it, if they just tried hard enough.
When movies were still good. The movies last years are way to focused on millenials.
This is really hard to describe. I was done with it after 15 minutes, what a peace of garbage this turns out to be! Good luck watching
Did not expect it to be this good. Really recommend this.
I did expect this movie to be worse but in the end I was positively surprised. It's not on my shortlist for any awards but it surprised me that it was not only flat and the story was intriguing.
A beautiful and very entertaining movie just loved it :)
An enjoyable film, funny and heartfelt. Better than I expected.
It's a good movie, nice plot, great acting. But the ending is a bit weak, it just... ends. All in all worth watching but when it's over, it's over.
A nice and lighthearted little movie
Everything about this screams movies I typically don’t enjoy. However, something about this really works for me. The pacing, the plot, the acting, it’s all rock solid. It’s a nice comfort movie to toss on and enjoy and I’m sure I will watch it many more times!
Rating: 3.5/5 - 8/10 - Would Recommend
In a modern world where time runs fast, life doesn’t wait for you. You can enjoy it or let it just slip through your fingers.
The Intern is a beautiful perspective on how we should embrace our choices, accept that sometimes when things get hard we are allowed to ask for help.
I really love this movie. Loved both acting and screenwriting. Made me feel motivated and inspired and to appreciate life. Something I really needed today.
Nancy Meyers, director of both The Parent Trap and The Holiday, gives us another movie to be warmed about.
Watch it, you won’t regret it!
Super lovely. Robert De Niro pls adopt me :older_adult_tone2:
Typical DeNiro sounds like hes just reading the cards
Typical american cheesy film.
Best bit was the ocean 11 style breakin.
Worst The ending
i love the overall story,
only the ending, and additional side story is a bit less than what was expected
It's difficult a movie enchants me from the beginning until the end, this was this one. I don't consider it as from comedy classification, but it has some really funny moments. It has a few drama moments too, but they are all composed by beautiful conversations with De Niro and Hathaway. In fact, this is light beautiful entertainment movie, it makes me want to watch it again. If I would resume it in a word I would say: beautiful.
The Intern is a romantic comedy with no romance...and no comedy. You want to impress me, Nancy Meyers? I don't know what women want, and maybe it's complicated, but this film would've been genius if Anne Hathaway and Robert Deniro finished together.
One of the amazing stories and movie shows how a woman can always be successful than men, won't ruin the fun part, watch to know more!
cant stand anne hathaway in anything and this was no exception
never watched a movie where u can sense the beauty in it and pick up the value of word "Beautiful". this movie is beautiful beautiful. never get tired of it. Anne H & Robert DN amazing together
Super sweet, super nice movie. Definitely one that makes you feel good.
How can the average of this movie be 74%?? This movie was amazing. All the right feels in all the right places. Di Niro did an amazing job and was a chamelon, supportive to one character, assertive to another but always polite and always thinking and observing, His expressions were just perfect. That last bit with Ann Hathaway was amazing show of vulnerability. Really loved this movie.
The sweetest movie I've ever seen :)
This role was made for Anne Hathaway and she played it to a tee. It fits her struggle to be a serious, valued actress without having to be an airhead to gain popularity from the public and media. Well done.
This is one of the best movies in its genre. Really gets you into a good mood. Robert De Nero and Anne Hathaway played their characters perfectly. A movie I'll recommend to anyone!
Great movie all the way through as this follows a senior gentleman who is bored of retirement so he finds an unlikely job in a senior internship with a hip young startup clothing business and he ends up be-friending the CEO and helps her through a difficult time which makes for an on the edge of your seat drama (yet easygoing drama). The plot development and speed of it is on par. Would have been nice to get to know the other characters a bit more or Hathaways's character's history a bit more.
"You're never wrong for doing the right thing…”
Well, this wasn’t what I thought it would be, and for me, thats a bad thing. I wanted more substance, instead it was all a bit insipid and a little dull.
Retiree finds he needs a job, is employed by an Internet startup by a businesswoman who (initially) neither wants or likes him.
Of course Ben (De Niro) works his magic and before long he is her best friend, life of course always works this way.
I’m not at all clear on that ending though; does life work itself out if you exercise in the park?
i love how feminist this is, surprisingly underrated
Awesome movie. Very good performances from De Niro and Anne Hathaway and the chemistry between them was great. Loved every minute of it and I would watch a whole series of these two together.
This hasn't got great rewatchability but it is quite funny in places and it's entertaining.
Cute and happy. Would have liked a better ending.
I have to say, first time I watched this movie in 2015 - I liked it much more.
I guess it was just the beginning of all current fancy trends, the rise of corporate bullshit values and feministic crap.
Now this movie looks different.
The guy tried to spend time on his well deserved retirement with his family or doing interesting activities, but had a "hole" in his soul, it was not fulfilling at all.
But then he goes to a typical startup where people work overtime for free, have a whole bunch of bullshit corporate rituals like ringing the bell when corporate instagram hit 100 likes and spend their lives doing meaningless office shit to make somebody else rich - oh, that is fulfilling as hell, your soul just shines of happiness and excitement.
When you trying to be useful for a bunch of strangers who won't remember you tomorrow that is much more satisfying than spending time with your actual family.
At one point she is asked to find an external CEO, and of course 95% of them are sexists who don't get that women do everything better these days.
And of course, it's the rise of the trends time. Thus, she's super cool, she created the company from scratch and doing great, balancing between being a great mom and a great boos etc., but her husband left his career, just sits at home with the kid, doing legos all day. Right.
It wasn't obvious in 2015, but now we see where all these fancy trends led... to what we have now.. this circus.
Character interactions are good.
What happened at the end? I've recently watched this and I can't remember; before that, it was quite good.
A guilty pleasure of mine. Another Nancy Meyers film that I'm a sucker for (cough - The Holiday).
The ingredients are enough: an on-form De Niro, humour, pathos, a tale as old as time yet refreshingly modern.
I disliked the ending when I first saw it but not now. I think it needs the dissonance to drive home the obvious message of the film. Women are the equals of men, along with the personal sacrifices a career brings.
I actually don't gel with Anne Hathaway in any of her movies but I quite like her by the end of this movie having disliked her within moments of her appearing on screen.
I see so much of the career women I know in this film. I think the appeal of it to me is seeing that they can, should and deserve to have it all - if they want it, which they don't have to.
9/10
De Niro doesn't disappoint as usual. And the plot? Well, it can be extended to anyone who wants to change their life by 180 degrees, not only retirees are affected by the "intern" status. ;>
something wrong in ending........very classical american story
not very strong ending......classical american story......
It is a film that amuses its target audience, but gets stuck in the traditional drama wrapped in the genre of comedy produced in the United States.
This movie was a surprise, i thought it was just another comedy movie, a good one. But no, it has a bit of everything and the best part is that you get to know the main characters so well and creates that kind of connection that you expect in good movies. Really good.
It's so much better than I expected. I thought it's some sort of romcom because of Anne Hathaway, but it's suprisingly not. I like it.
Unexpectingly better than expect. I was thinking it was some sort of chick flick / romcom, but then it wasn't, albeit some of the ingredients are there.
Has a lot more than you expect, its a great film and De Niro is really good in this character.
An OK movie, but was left wanting by the lack of ending
I found this movie extremely awesome. I'm just 17yo, but i feel old like him :P
how can i play de movie?
جميل جدا وماتوقعته كـذا :(
one of best slow/simpler/comedy/drama movie and Anna Hathaway is greater not a movie i don't love and RDN also of course. :)
would definitely watch this movie again
loved it. definitely will give it a thumbs u. so good.
loved it ! so heart-warming and sweet, both stars were great and it left you with a fantastic feeling.
This film has some great acting and some familiar faces. I was entertained the whole way through, but it will not serve as a lasting memory for me. It does, however, show some of the stresses put on career focused women that provides an interesting plot.
De Niro is awesome in this. so natural and moving.
No profanity, that was refreshing.
Very lovely movie. Laughed a lot too!

The main character in The Intern is Ben Whittaker, played by Robert De Niro. He plays a gentle soul, not at all intimidating stereotype he is known for. He is a bit like My Man Godfrey, perfect in every way and filled with wisdom. At the end of the movie, you will want him as your dad.
Anne Hathaway plays his boss Jules Ostin. She starts off as unbearable as Meryl Streep's character in The Devil Wears Prada. But she quickly (perhaps too quickly) tones down and become a vulnerable lovable softie.
While the film is undeniably a "chick flick" in many ways imaginable, from trendy costumes, appealing cast, gentle screenplay, and adorable kid, it does not push the romantic comedy genre button. In fact, I am not even sure if there's a single kiss in the entire film. Rene Russo (who looks amazing) plays De Niro's romantic interest, but their emerging relationship is restrained and takes a back seat.
The film is all about Ben moving on and embracing his golden years, and earning well deserved respect and admiration from those around him.
If I were to quibble, it is that the film plays too safe. Its characters and situations are too perfect. There's no sense of urgency or troubles. We are simply watching people we want to invite for the holidays for 2 hours. And that is not necessarily a bad thing. I watched the film feeling happy the whole time.
