a commercial of insurance Zurich very long but good
It was sad, but I tought the same thing about the plane. Thousands of people there and only five flying to a better city with better treatments. But the movie was awesome, apart from impossible things that did happen (pun intended)
T'was a great movie. Tom Holland did deserved the award. Great acting, indeed.
Tom Holland deserves an Oscar, a Tony, a Grammy and a Nobel Prize for this movie.
good movie, sad and wonderful. Holland was great at his role as little Lucas
This is one of the few movies that make me cry within the first five minutes. It's a great movie.
Definitely hard to watch. That’s why I kept on postponing it since it first premiered. I would suggest to take a moment to google the Spanish family who inspired the film, after watching it. Miraculous.
This was a good film based on a really harrowing true story about a family who were caught in the midst of the tsunami. I would definitely recommend this if you like a good true story.
Harrowing, emotional portrayal of a devastating event.
The original title of the film is Lo Imposible.
I remember watching this when it first came out and thinking that kid (Lucas) is going places. Look at him now. He's SPIDER-MAN. His ability to carry a movie (or at least half of it) at that young age was impressive.
image and sound 4,5 / 5. Although I ended up saturated with so much of her announcement and said that I would not see her, it is catastrophic and it must be seen sooner or later. It is very well made and that everything is seen from the point of view of the family is very good.
Such a powerful movie, really makes you think. Definitely worth a watch!
The name is LO IMPOSIBLE. Why you must change the original name? It was filmed in english, but still, the name is "Lo Imposible", in spanish, just like the real-life family.
Do not watch this unless you plan to cry during the entire length of the movie. I just...
I cried my eyes off with them I couldn't stop
this movie made me realize how small I am ,and how short life is !
i didnt think i was capable of crying throughout an entire movie. this one proved me wrong.
Great movie! I was touched because their love was beyond any tragedy or injuries or whatever. lol
Who cares about the fate of a privileged british family when 300k asian natives die in this tragedy? The premise of this movie is one thing, but the execution is the other. The characters are not very interesting or relatable. It‘s a real story, but somehow so incredibly boring and the movie felt like it lasted forever at the end.
"I'm always a brave kid, mom, but I'm scared."
It feels wrong saying that something based on a horrible event was filmed so beautifully, but The Impossible really does capture everything quite well. The disaster is a focus on the film, but the performances and the survivability and hope they bring to the screen really does make this a great movie.
made me cry !! very good acting and effects !!
:heart:x7
I did not watch this when it originally came out, on purpose.
Anyway - I'm glad I did eventually watch it. It is much better than I expected it to be. The sfx were good and the tension was kept up throughout. However, I do have to marvel at how so many people ran around in all the sewage and debris without any shoes.
How I rate:
1-3  = seriously! don't waste your time
4-6  = you may or may not enjoy this
7-8  = I expect you will like this too
9-10  = movies and TV shows I really love!
I didn't know there was a young Tom Holland here, good performance considering his age when he filmed this. At first, I actually found it hard to believe that the kid was Holland...
The movie is nothing special: if the story wasn't true I don't think I would have given it a try.
Disappointing, wont be watching a second time.
A really good movie but also a hard watch. I can't imagine what these people had to go through in the aftermath of this horrible event. And it's nice to see that for this family there was a happy end. I guess they were the exception and not the rule.
This movie was just awful. Wooden acting, terrible editing and direction. Not a tribute to anything and a lame attempt at an Oscar fodder film. I lost a lot of respect for all the cast in this film and wonder if I watched the same film as everyone else, judging by the comments!
9/10 great movie and so sad...
As strange as it may sound, but this movie didn't do anything for me. So if you were in a Tsunami or have heard the stories seen the damage and bodies. This film will only make you angry. Never leave your kids alone after a disaster like this. After the Tsunami of 26-12-2004 a lot of children went missing because of kidnappings (at least in Banda Aceh)
NEVER leave your children in a situation like this !!!
Probably more disturbing than this movie is this fact: After the Tsunami of 2004 what you could hear was babies crying. People were desperately trying to find them in the rubble, but is was an impossible task.
As the days went by the crying made way for silence.
The indonesian government didn't allow help to enter the struck region of Aceh which was still at war. The Americans ignored the orders and started to help the Acehnese people. When a woman wanted to know if the man lying on the ground was her father an Indonesian soldier started kicking the body to roll it over, because he was disgusted by the look of it. An american soldier came up to him and knocked him out with his riffle. My wife didn't understand english, but what he shouted was obvious.
This whole review is totally of topic, but I want to say that in 2010 there were still people living in baracks... with just a cloth to get some privacy. I guess till today not much has changed. I remember both days clearly (the other being 11-03-2011) and for the real thing I have shed many tears.
But... The only time I cried over later produced film material, was when an English bloke with a Liverpool accent was saying that the native population was so scared that the only stupid reaction they had was raising they're hands and look at the comming water in stead of running away from it.
Southern Thailand is mostly Muslim and yes Mecca is in the direction of the ocean. So they were probably saying they're last prayers you dumb ass... And this insult wasn't even noticed or cut out by a whole BBC editing crew.
Money = Life ?
Only ones on the airplane at the end. And once he got his family back then screw everyone else.
The movie is not that bad but the acting did not convince me. You can see Tom Holland is still inexperienced. He's not bad, but also not brilliant. I think the actors tried to be over dramatic. They could have build on the drama in other ways possible.
Buen inicio, final un poco forzado.
The movie has a beautiful photography, an OK acting but it's over dramatic. In the beginning I was caught by the history and characters but at some point I got lost. Anyway, it's an OK movie, nothing more nothing less.
Not a bad movie. I just don't like to see people suffering during the whole movie.
IMO, this is the 3rd best movie of the year so far, right after Django and Argo. 0 tears shed tho.
I think this film is insensitive and hugely over dramatic. On what was a horrific event they've managed to turn it into some kind of hero moment, that all is ok cos Ewan McGregor is all right.
The actual family that the movie is based on are embarrased by this, while thousands are dead.
That said it's well made, well acted I just feel it's perhaps poorly timed. Did it release on Boxing day as well?

I have seen more than my fair share of disaster films, and by far, this is one that hit me the hardest and on a personal level.
I have been through more floods than I care to remember. I have been swept away by swift moving water, forced to grab onto a tree and hold on for dear life. I have been taken in by strangers, scared and unsure where my family was and if they were alive.
And I was 5 years old, when this happened. (Around the same age as the middle child in this film).
I had coughed up more floatscum and dirty water.
And I have the mental scars as a result.
And this movie captures all of this and more. (The scene where the Mom and Lucas are sleeping / under anesthesia, and cant dream of anything but the water and the suffering and almost drowning. That is me. From age 5 to age 24. Everynight of my life. Wake up in a cold sweat, from the nightmares. And when the rains fall - nervous and trying to find a way to get home, and get with my family and get to higher ground).
People criticize the ending - the almost empty plane. You have to remember, this was a plane taking people to hospitals and to safety. And for many people, leaving wasnt an option. They had to stay. To find their loved ones. No matter what. (This was what my Mom went through during our first flood. She was rescued first and was taken in by a couple of the neighborhood moms. She stayed in their home long enough to put my brother in a crib (he was 13 months old, and had been held by her all night, while she stood on a dining room table, water up to her waist, waiting for it to end), change her clothes and then back to the water's edge. She waited, with two other moms, until he KNEW that I was safe and coming to her. That is what survivors do- they wait and hope and pray. And cry when then find out - good or bad.
It takes something else for me to get teary eye during a movie - usually when a beloved pet dies. (Yeah, I look at you, "I Am Legend" And you "Hitachi"). But when the brothers find each other and are hugging - yeah, I was feeling a bit emotional.
