Awful scripting, poor acting, mixed special effects (some looked fine, some were childish), a complete understanding of the importance continuity (and lighting), and an unoriginal story (a mix of Running Man, Death Race, and any number of other post apocalyptic game show movies ). From a low level, it was really let down by poor and confusing fight scenes. We don't get much character development (it became hard to differentiate the angry - or smug - person in dark clothing from the next one. During the major fight scenes, the camera cut between the various contestants, so it was hard to recognise who was fighting and what their skill was. In general, the choreographer on the fight scenes was awful. I don't know why casting agents continue to think that any random B-grade actor can stage fights.
And I missed the bit where it said why people were doing this - apart from "great power".
It really feels like it was an ego-based project by someone whose ego was not reflective of their abilities.
It's hard to know what would have made it better. Probably not making it, but alternatively if the producers had watched some of the others and not thought we can do better.
And it all concludes with an ending that would had any other producer asking "can I really do that? That's not an ending". I actually googled the key people - and did see that for some of these folks, this was the typical movie fodder they produced, for others, it was their first time in their role, and - most incredibly of all - there is a sequel (at least this is an explanation for the non-ending).
If you read this before watching - my strong advise to you, even if you are a teenage male movie addict - is not to.
On the bright side, the use of music was pretty good.

The budget on this movie was too low to make the movie they were trying to make. It has bad lighting, bad special effects, and uninspired acting.
The things is, with the new computer AI technology that is being invented now, people with ideas to make movies might be able to execute them way better in the future. That should help movies like this be of higher quality, script wise and visually! That of course won't solve the problem of uninspired acting.
