Not sure what to make of this.. Didn't like it, didn't dislike it, just opinion-less. I expected something weird and I got something super-weird. The feeling of mystique that this movie brings is brilliant, the actors all do a really great job, but all the while I was wondering where the story would take me.. If anywhere at all. In the end I should have just enjoyed all the fantastical imagery and thoughts on the screen and not worried about any story whatsoever. Now I just ended up with this strange feeling that I might have seen something awesome, but it didn't come together for me.

In the event that you have not heard of this movie, it is the last film made by the great Heath Ledger. Ledger did not live to finish the film so his friends stepped in to help out - Johnny Depp, Colin Farrel and Jude Law (it may sound silly but it works in the movie - you'll see why). It is also directed by Terry Gilliam of "Monty Python" fame. I started to type out what the story is about but then realized as that was a pointless exercise. The film has some amazing performances (with the notable exception of Vern Troyer) and it absolutely keeps your attention. It is very rough around the edges and that is part of what makes it an enjoyable film.

The latest in a long line of confounding Terry Gilliam movies that I can't decide whether to love or hate. Parnassus comes fully equipped with the director's requisites: damningly eccentric characters, gorgeous cinematography, far-left-field humor, delicate plot and utterly befuddling dialog.

The scenes set inside the imaginarium are fantastic, dream logic-dominated landscapes on par with Michel Gondry's best work, where we're encouraged to celebrate the fact that absolutely nothing is static and chaos rules. Unfortunately, the real world scenes do nothing to lasso the film to the ground in any way, a function which was desperately needed. When the dust settled, I... think... I understood what this was all about? That's more than I could've said for some of the Python alum's earlier work, at least after one viewing.

Either way, it's basically a moving painting. You take away what you can and just accept that some parts of it aren't meant to be comprehended by anyone but the artist.

I loved this film, so whimsical with lessons along the way. The story is one of decisions and consequences presented in this beautiful cinematography with characters you can’t help falling in love with. Heath Ledgers last film and he is brilliant in it. A great watch.

That was weird, but a nice one to watch.

Good film but not for everyone. This being a Terry Gilliam film, you know it's going to be a) fantastic in a classic sense, b) complicated with many red herrings and original characters, and c) something you can watch more than once.

terry gilliam always delivers. i thought the story in this was a little weak. seemed like it may not have had a clear goal. was it about val or about tony? neither was fleshed out as fully as i would have liked and both left me kinda empty. that said, there was a cohesive enough plot that i didnt feel like this was only an eye candy movie. the scenery porn in this was amazing. i wish there had been more. gilliams bigger than life sets always give me the greatest thrill. he has the knack for making the absurd seem common place.
