This is the first Grinch movie i've seen so maybe that alters my judgment but I really enjoyed this movie, animation is really good, it's heartwarming, and funny. Charcaters are all really likeable, soundtrack isn't the best but overall an enjoyable movie.
Spending time and spreading joy with family and friends is the real meaning of christmas and also eating lots of food of course.. I was never fond of the original with (Jim carrey) but this one put joy into my heart and specially loved It's sense of humor. It's got a bit of twist on the original story and I prefer it and also It's got a lovely message behind It.
It's the Grinch, and if you already know the story, you will find few surprises here. Still, it's fun to watch, so if familiarity hasn't bred contempt in you, don't be a Grinch and give this adaptation a go.
This movie is totally different to the original and live action stories of the Grinch (bar him stealing Christmas of course!)
I disliked the soundtrack, it felt like they'd purposely tried to modernise it by turning it into rap songs, it just got on my nerves. However, the storyline was sweet and the ending was particularly nice. Wont be a Christmas classic for me though,
Did we need another Grinch movie? Nope. Not at all. But it's not bad, it's a safe, pretty retelling of the story. I was worried it would be awful after that opening song, but it was fun enough.
This latest incarnation of Doctor Seuss's Christmas classic is as unnecessary as a stethoscope for a politician, the heartless bastards.
The irony is that this cash grab is more likely to turn you off the holiday season than anything else so, in a sense, the Grinch did steal Christmas.
I'm not gonna put the soundtrack on my daily playlists but a few will make it to the Christmas playlist. it's really good for what it is, a children's movie and my daughter enjoys this much more than the live action.
Well, it's tough to review this without comparing it to the other films. I prefer the Grinch to be at least a bit more of a pill than this one was painted. The animation was stunning, but I felt that by softening Grinch at the start, the impact of the transformation was watered down.
Jim Carrey Grinch has something even better. I understand that something need to be done for the kids, and you can forget the storyline. But nothing new, only the soundtrack is good. Sorry, it's a good movie, and i enjoy it, but only once.
Grinch's like a Christmas poem, written by a not so talented Christmas poet. Stick with Home Alone if you want Christmas so badly.

ok let's say I wasn't sure about this cause I thought the old Grinch might. be a miss well as it turns out I had no need to fear that good old Grinch was funny and I grinned from ear to ear that Grinch made me smile yes smile alot that old Grinch also had a pretty fast plot I laughed long and hard at that old wicked man you should take your family whenever you can. there's plenty to enjoy for young and for old even if you have a heart full of mold this made me laugh that's for sure that's all for this review there is no more
This is NOT an improvement on the 26 minute, 1966, made for TV, Classic HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS. It's not as bad as the 2000 live action version, but it begs the question, "Why mess with success?" As a stand alone, animated, seasonal movie, it has some good points: the animation is good (the young Grinch is absolutely adorable and will probably sell a lot of merchandise - which may be the point of making this remake), it has some entertaining and diverse additional characters and it has an additional umbrella morale about the sacrifice of mothers and value of family. However, Benedict Cumberbatch is wasted in this movie (indeed any nasal toned American actor would have done as well), Pharrell Williams offers up some lame rhyming narration that doesn't come close to the excellence of Dr. Suess' craft. Cindy Lou Who is aged about 5 years and loses the innocent charm of the original. Under the stand alone criteria, I might give it a 6 (fair) out of 10 [Holiday Animation], but, as an updated version of the original work, I give it a 5 (unnecessary remake) out of 10. [Christmas Classic].
Umm...not good. It avoided being a disaster but Max saved it. Period. Cumberbatch doesn't sound like The Grinch, does he??
A decent remake of a Christmas classic but nothing special. Doesn’t have the same silliness as Jim Carrey’s. Benedict Cumberbatch does a good grinch voice. Not sure if this is going to become a yearly watch.
Cuter and more charming than the loud and overstuffed Jim Carrey version. It’s just too obvious that not much will take for this Grinch to be nice. Since yes he’s a jerk but with a nice guy side throughout the film.
This version is easily better than the Carrey one though. It may even get more of an emotional reaction than the original short. Still, it does nothing too spectacular with a story we all know by now.
While Pharrell Williams as the narrator is like he thinks he’s telling the Night Before Christmas. Should have got Morgan Freeman lol.
I am a bit bias because rap and hip hop are some of my favourite genres of music, but I loved the soundtrack! I thought it was a fun take on the original music.
As someone who has seen all of the different Grinch films many times, this one very well could be my favourite (next to the original of course). It made me laugh, it was sweet and had a good way of getting the message across in my opinion. It followed the original storyline well while also adding its own twists and original characters. Fred was by far one of my favourite characters in the whole movie and I felt he added something new and interesting to it. I also loved that they added more personality to Cindy Lou’s mother. The motivation behind Cindy Lou trapping Santa was adorable and so kind.
And an added bonus for me is that the animation is beautiful, the different textures is so satisfying to look at. It’s a lot cuter than past Grinch films which personally creeped me out a bit as a child. Overall I adored this movie and would absolutely recommend people to watch it if you’re a fan of the Grinch!
Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas is once again adapted for the big-screen, this time as Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch, and once again fails to recapture the spirit and magic of the original. The story follows the curmudgeonly Grinch who lives alone in the mountains and avoids Christmas, but his annoyance with Christmas soon turns to anger when the Whos triple their festivities. The film goes to great lengths to set itself apart from previous versions, including changing Seuss’ limericks; which is unfortunate as the new ones aren’t as charming and poetic. And the filler subplot about Cindy Lou Who is incredibly formulaic and predictable. Also, the soundtrack is rather garish, featuring a lot of pop-music. Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch is an improvement over the live-action version, but it has a number of its own problems.
I just love this movie! I watch it every year with my grandbabies!
A pleasant film, with a simple but very fun narrative, full of great jokes. The quality of the animation is excellent and leaves nothing to be desired in any aspect. The dynamics between the dog and the Grinch, providing captivating moments throughout the story. I recommend it for anyone looking for a light and humorous experience.
Greatly enjoyed this version of the story of the The Grinch, and how it is modernized a bit with the single parent. Music I was not a fan of. Great Christmas classic.

omfg I loved this film, why are the reviews so bad lmao. Dunno why it took me so long to watch this but wow, one of my fave christmas movies now I'd say. maybe i'm just a giant young child at heart.
As a big fan of the 1966 original and a big anti-fan of the live action 2000 version, I didn't make it a priority to see this when it came out. However, this year I finally gave it a go, mostly at the request of my niece and nephew. I was pleasantly surprised, as this adaptation is both respectful of the original and reasonably successful in fleshing out a 26 minute story into an 85 minute film. The animation is impressive, the voice acting is solid, and none of the story additions/changes bothered me. At the end of the day I think I'll always prefer the original, but I certainly don't begrudge this film its place as a Christmas tradition for the next generation of kiddos who want something a bit more modern.
This feels like a dumbed down version. The animation and design of the Whos is bland and generic rather than quirky and Cumberbatch just doesn't nail the voice.
This might be ok for little kids, but I don't think there's much here for anyone over the age of about 10. I know that the original book is very short, but I really expected a bit more of a cohesive plot here. The entire reindeer story felt like a waste of time, like it was shoehorned in just to sell reindeer plushies to kids. Cumberbatch is yet another example of why actual voice actors should be doing voice acting roles. I thought he was terrible. Like I could imagine him in the sound booth doing this voice, and thinking he's doing a great job, and the people recording it trying to smile through a grimace while giving him a thumbs up. Also Pharrell narrating was awful.
I liked the idea the Cindy Lou is trying to trap Santa, instead of just happening upon him, since that gives her a bit more agency, but I really thought The Grinch and Cindy would have more interaction with each other. But that's probably my memory being clouded by the 2000 version. Overall I thought this was generally harmless, but also boring, and it should not have been Cumberbatch.

I like it. It has a few issues but still does most things right, it's definitely solely made for families but that's not a negative - it does make sense to make an animated version of this Dr. Seuss book.
With that noted, I don't rate Benedict Cumberbatch in the lead role. I don't think his voice suits the role at all, it needed someone who sounds more menacing and treacherous. I never felt, away from his obvious acts, any horrid side to Grinch here - though perhaps that suits the aforementioned family vibe they were aiming for.
Away from Cumberbatch, I thoroughly enjoyed Pharrell Williams' narration and it's cool to hear Angela Lansbury in a minor role. The plot to this 2018 film is solid, but the thing about it that stands out most to me is the humour - which I found consistently amusing, there are some funny gags in there.
Overall, this is a film I'll look back on as being good - even if it could've been greater, especially with a more suitable lead. If we're comparing this and the 2000 production, I think I prefer this one? It's close, Jim Carrey is great in that but this one's pacing is much better.
There really is nothing to pick at this movie for. It's cute, it's clean, and some laughs are to be had. People are far too critical. Hip-hop Grinch is questionable, though.

Like take a 26 minute short and stretch it out to 90 - a similar mistake that Ron Howard did.
The Grinch himself whose not as horrible as the narrator and songs suggest, just slightly frustrated. The animation is bright and colorful, but lazy at the same time as I can tell they copied the same character model's while changing the appearance a little - same thing with the backgrounds.
Still, it's not a terrible movie just mediocre at best. I guess my heart didn't grow three sizes as it hoped.
Not as funny as the live action Grinch but still a quirky and enjoyable movie on it's own.

What the hell... A mess.
I thought the movie was sweet and charming as an addition to the classic movie. I like that they didn't stick to the original plot too much so that the movie still felt like it was adding something new. Definitely a nice relaxing movie to watch, but the music was awful. I don't mind them trying to remix the original, but only if they actually make a good song from it. It really felt like they didn't put any effort into the music.
Perfection. Grinch personality is dense and well elaborated, Max is cute and smartest ever. Real Dr. Seuss fans will love the movie.
