This effort is more National Lampoon than Dukes of Hazzard but it is almost on par with 2005 feature film. The story here makes more sense than the non-sensical strip-mining fraud story of the film. Harland Williams as Roscoe seems like a major casting blunder because he is hilarious in movies like RocketMan and Down Periscope but was not given much to work with. There is an extremely stupid sexual/stuffing a turkey scene that is horrible. Sherilyn Fenn as Lulu says she is going to go slip into something sexy and returns wearing a yellow/flowery robe that could have covered the Lulu from the TV series. Willie Nelson actually seems more comfortable playing Uncle Jesse instead of just delivering one-liners and corny jokes like in the movie. This is not a must see for Dukes fans unless you liked Coy and Vance replacement episodes of the original series.

Straight-to-video garbage, The Dukes of Hazzard: The Beginning is borderline unwatchable. The “acting” is just abysmal and is painful to watch, and the writing is awful (particularly the narrations and really all the dialog). The sets and costumes look incredibly cheap and the music is as corny as all get-out. The Dukes of Hazzard: The Beginning has no respect for the original television series and goes out of its way to be as insulting a red-neck caricature as possible.
