Special movie with great perfomance from Al Pacino and beautiful women 7.4/10..I think Keanu is one of the most cool personalities in Hollywood but his acting skills ooo man in this movie he is terrible sorry to say that...
And the verdict is: Guilty (Pleasure)!
Story: 8...GREAT premise for a movie. A little too exaggerated and fantastic in many parts, but all in all a devilishly fun tale
Script: 7...a couple magnificent scenes of dialogue, but the bulk is pedestrian and cliche
Performances: 7...I cannot think of anyone who could play the devil better than Pacino. He fucking rocked it. Reeves and the rest are either bad or forgettable.
Misc.: 4...oh man the special effects are not good, even for the era. Score was bland. Nothing remarkable. And the elevator door swipes were so dumb!
Influence: 7... Pacino's probably set the bar for this character in any future tv or movie. I think it's pretty rewatchable too.
Overall: 7
arrogance is Satan's favorite sin. arrogance and ambition blind one's eyes and become unable to see even the most precious being. There may be a comeback in the movies, but they won't survive.
One of my all time classic guilty pleasures!•!•!
The reason Al Pacino's satan character in this movie is so scary is because he's just a smooth talking normal person. Too relatable.
One of my all time classic guilty pleasures!•!•!
what a movie. i mean just incredible.
The world is consumed by vanity, but the ball is still in the game, we have a choice, even if we play against the masterful talent of Pacino.
This feels like an extension of the movie The Firm, but with a more interesting idea at the core. It's trying to do that typical mix of high concept drama and genre filmmaking that some prestige filmmakers are known for, someone like Darren Aronofsky would be perfect for this kind of material (especially given all the biblical references). Instead, this movie takes the cheesy, commercial route, leading to much more mixed results. The first hour I found kind of a drag, because the acting, dialogue and directing aren't at the level that they should be. Keanu is as wooden as ever, Pacino feels like he comes from a different film, the dialogue is way too cheesy and overdramatic, the shots have no personality (also some painful use of green screen), etc.. The central metaphor is interesting, but besides that I didn't get much out of it. However, as it goes along, it starts to lean more into the bizarre genre elements of the story, and the film becomes more entertaining because of it. It's still kinda silly and schlocky, often relying on cliché iconography and overblown use of sound, but it isn't afraid to go to some weird, dark places. If it had pushed things into Sam Raimi camp horror territory, I could even see this being a light recommendation. This film I don't find recommendable, however it does have that type of creativity we're nowadays missing in big mainstream films.
4/10
Devil's Advocate is an artistic film with wonderful acting by its actors. This movie tells the story of a lawyer who is very skilled in his work and has never lost any of his cases. In the meantime, he is given a great job offer and he moves to New York with his wife. It has everything there! Big house, money and everything. After some time, his wife notices something in that house and their new life. Worryingly, she gets hurt and the man who doesn't care about the woman is too busy with his own work. At the end of the movie, you are strangely surprised and just when you think everything is over, you are surprised again. If I want to say something about the other things in the movie, I must mention Al Pacino's masterpiece. This man did not act in this movie, but he did magic! When he looks at Sheka from inside the movie, his gaze penetrates to the depths of your being and this is really strange! The acting of Keanu Reeves in the lead role of this film is very extraordinary and there is no problem with the acting of these two people in this film. If you like crime and drama movies, you should see this movie.
I have never seen anything so magnificent in all my life.
I don't know how to describe the feeling I felt when I saw this work, I just know that what I felt, I will never feel in another movie.
Personally found this movie entertaining and engaging.
Nice surprise. I decided to watch because of Pacino. Not being a fan of Mr. Reeves, yours truly was pleasantly surprised at his acting chops in this vehicle.
title is literal. should have watched the trailer first
"Donald Trump could not come"
"Flemish"
Years without seeing it and I still like it, the desire to climb Keanu, the fall of Charlize prepared by Pacino. "Vanity, my favorite sin"
An interesting concept and a fun performance from Al but it wasn't as good as I hoped it would be.
The Devil’s Advocate is a seductive and stylistic thriller that’s full of mystery and intrigue. When a gifted Florida trial lawyer is recruited by a New York City firm and groomed to be a partner, he discovers that success comes at a price and that it may be too high for him to live with. The cast is quite impressive and features Keanu Reeves, Al Pacino, Charlize Theron, Connie Nielsen, and Craig T. Nelson. But it’s Pacino who steals the film with his inspired and charismatic performance. There are however, some problems; the script in particular is confusion and uneven, having trouble integrating the supernatural elements into the plot. Yet James Newton Howard’s score picks up a lot of the slack by setting a dark, mystical tone with sweeping themes. While The Devil’s Advocate has some problems, it’s also tantalizingly irresistible.
Great movie that is long forgotten and overlooked. A thriller featuring Al Pacino playing the devil and Keanu Reeves as a young hotshot lawyer. Charlise Theron does a great job as the wife losing her mind. Great pace, suspense and great story.
We know Keanu isn't the best actor but he doesn't usually annoy me. Here his performance is bad and he doesn't even come close to bringing the character alive. The story is pretty based and when you see a cliché like black people doing voodoo or whatever you know it's not going to get any better. I don't even think Pacino's acting style fits.
It's already ageing bad.
