The Curse of La Llorona 2019

Yet anther in the long line of "Jump Scare: The Movie" films.

They had some quality suspense building moments, but most of them were squandered on cheap scares instead of doing something more memorable. It's sad, considering the quality of most of the performances. There were more than a few cringe inducing one-liners, though, mostly from the "Rafael Olvera" character.

TL;DR - Save your money and see it when it hits your preferred streaming service.

I wasn't disappointed in this, but I do fail to see how it fits in the Annabelle/Conjuring franchise. Apart from the bit part played by the priest - with a cameo by the Annabelle doll, there was absolutely NOTHING that remotely connected this to the other films. Overall, I thought the story was good; maybe I'm just tired/bored with the usual savoir faire of "horror" movies, and this one proved to be more interesting as a "spooky drama". The jump scares were very few, so no, it wasn't a typical "scary" movie. I did think the makeup and special effects were good...definitely up to par for this particular movie. I would caution against watching it as a "part of the franchise" (unless, like me, your OCD just insists that you do) but watch it as a standalone film and enjoy it. If you're looking for blood, guts, and gore, you'll want to skip this one but if a "spooky ghost story"-type film is your cup of tea, I highly recommend this one.

"Ta da!" What a completely classic line for a "scary" movie.

I have had it with stupid girls and their damn dolls!!! (Just have to get that out of the system) I've watched quite a few movies recently that have girls causing problems coz of their stupid dolls, I mean yea they are kids but my godddd it just eats me up with they would just want their dolls so bad they don't care bout their own/family's lives (I really wished that girl would've drowned at some point, very evil of me, I know~~) This movie isn't too bad but yea like most people who commented bout it, the jumpscares are pretty typical that you know it's gon happen and some of the effects aren't too bad. But other than that, this show is just an average for me. I thought the part where Rafael said the girl is responding to Llorona's calls would be interesting but it just happened once and then it stopped working. The girl just kept running away FROM Llorona when she was chasing them so errr... bad call signal so it didn't work? LOL Oh well, this show would've had potential if done right but yea, it's mediocre at best

Give it an 6. Not that bad, give 2 or 3 jumps. But most of the suspense part are killed by usual scares. It's a shame, because if it have more scary, but really scary it might be a great movie. The movie business still have a lot of money, because nobody cares how the movie is filmed. I don't believe that nobody said to the director that "we going to do the same stuff presented in the last 40 scary movies".
I believe it's more, "do it, we get 10million on movie theather, then sell it to cable or Netflix and make more 10 million, and we are happy to create another.

It's a very bad movie. Special effects are interesting, but situations involving chorona and persecutives are always the same. Many predictable Jump Scares and a very bad end ... in the middle of the end you only "will not lack a lot to end?"

loading replies

Predictable jump scares and fake outs.
The best part of the movie is the cg was actually not that bad.

the movie breaks it's own story universe by putting the little girl in a trance and then ignoring the trance the next scene there was also one good fake out but it was so poorly presented. Like watching a flashback to a previous episode of a late night TV show.

Definitely one of the weakest entries. Dumb kids doing dumb kid stuff. Acting is low tier. Directing isn’t much better. Feel like a streaming movie.

With "The Curse of La Llorona", the Conjuring franchise delivers a film that has some touches of J-horror. However, an exciting mystery is not built up in this story about a vengeful female ghost. Instead, most of the film plays out as you'd expect. Every scary moment is foreshadowed, and the characters don't behave in a comprehensible way in some places. Like the other installments in the series, it's all solidly directed again, but I just don't warm up to these spin-offs. The scripts lack substance overall, resulting in mass-produced fare at best. It doesn't appeal to me, but as long as there is an audience for these films, I'm sure the approach won't change.

Perhaps the dreariest, most sleep inducing movie I've watched all year. The actors are fine, but the writing is shallow and the execution much too slow.

It's been a while since I saw the movie. Now I wanted to write a review and I notice that I hardly remember. I think that says a lot. I remember that we found the movie at least a bit exciting, but it wasn't special either.

This movie was just boring. I was really looking forward to watching it but the plot and the execution was really disappointing.

"You don't have to be religious to have faith"

I was excited to see some Mexican folklore and be frightened but this fell a little flat. The second half felt like a Supernatural episode, but at least Supernatural usually does a pretty good job with haunted scenes. Raymond Cruz did good with that he had, but I just really like him as an actor.

Common horror movie I did not get scared at all .... good for kids

Pretty generic haunting horror flick. Nothing special really. Might be good for a scary family movie night but nothing more.

This is in the Conjuring universe, which is kind of important in a matter of quality. Conjuring/Insidious (basically Wan's movies) set the bar very high. Unfortunately, this movie has a lot of "nothing parts". The atmosphere, which was even in the Nun damn good, is just not here. It is very weak movie in the atmosphere, music which is very important for me. Remember how important and awesome music in Conjuring/Insidious was. The Nun had epic dark choir music. Here, nothing catchy.
Another thing is Rafael's writing. That character was completely badly written in my opinion. He tried to be badass and so clever yet it was a very weak, useless character, which is too bad.

I am very scared of one thing - Conjuring 3. As I have read, it is suppose to be directed by the same director as this movie and I am really scared for it.

The curse of La Familiar strikes again! Its not a bad film exactly, but it is awfully predictable. Notable only for a cameo from a replica of the 'real' Annabelle - and no, I am not talking about the porcelain doll that looks nothing like her.

An Annabelle/Conjuring spin-off, The Curse of La Llorona is a disappointing and mediocre ghost film. When a social worker removes two children from an unstable home she runs afoul of a vengeful spirit called La Llorona, who then comes after her children. Linda Cardellini leads the cast and gives a fairly solid performance. However, the La Llorona myth/spirit isn’t developed very well and doesn’t make a lot of sense. And it’s really not all that frightening (other than the jump scares). Additionally, there isn’t that much blood or gore; particularly given that it’s an R rated film. The Curse of La Llorona has its share of creepy and disturbing moments, but overall it’s rather tame.

Way too many jump scares and nothing around it to make a good movie.

Typical and topical movie of easy hand and scare spirit. Script, development and very weak characterization of the characters. Totally expendable.

Scariest movie I’ve seen in a long time! Excellent!

Why would La Llorona, a Mexican folklore not take place in Mexico, yet the entire movie takes place in Los Angeles? It would be interesting to see a Mexican cast and a Mexican setting for this type of folklore to do the story justice - rather than the repetitive scars we are so use to now.

Not so good, not so bad, surely nothing new. The idea it gives it's that you are rewatching some horror movie. Again, not something to avoid, but if you miss it you lose nothing. One thing i don't get it's why they point out the llorona got the little girl, that she is in trance and she will go to her whenever whe calls her, and then..nothing!?!? So, the point? I'm not one who analyze too much details, mostly on horror movies, but don't get the sense of that scene. Anyway.

Nothing special about this horror movie. It all jump scares and full of clichés. Not even the demon was interesting.

This was an enjoyable movie. I mean, it is a bad movie, it has more jump scares than it has actors.
But u can laugh at it, some of the js's are funny and of course if u're a BrBa fan there's also a bit of salamanca family fun.

It has not been bad. Linda Cardellini well, Raymond Cruz curious policeman healer. When they help to win the spirit touches me the noses

The movie wasn't that bad. It was actually pretty enjoyable. There were some moments that you would describe as "stupid" or "Come on" moments like when a ghost burns your arms it's not imaginary anymore. So I don't get why everyone says "it was just my imagination". Yes it has alot of jumpscares, which I think are pretty cheap scares for an horror film and don't always make a horror movie good, but I liked the store. I am wondering if this is now part of the Conjuring Universe. It didn't had the special opening like The Nun had, but there were some references to Annabelle.

They followed the same recipe as every other horror film in the past 10 years and ended up with the same microwaved shite that's cold in the center and really stinks.
