The Caine Mutiny 1954

The Caine Mutiny is a striking early cinematic take on the effects of war on the mind. The fact that it was so popular AND was approved by the US Navy speaks volumes to what Director Edward Dmytryk (who had been blacklisted) was able to do. The film is not as good as writer Herman Wouks's novel that it was based on, but it does a pretty good job of turning a bad novel for film into a cohesive story line. There can be little doubt that the film would have been better had the love angle between Willis Seward and May Wynn been dropped . The film is well worth a watch.

That speech at the end by the drunk lawyer felt like something the Navy demanded to have on in exchange of their cooperation. BS.
