I had forgotten just how good this one was. Greengrass maintains the frenetic pace of the last film and even steps it up a notch, finding creative ways to keep us entertained.
Perhaps the story arc could have had a more interesting conclusion, but as a new spin on the pure-bred spy thriller the Bourne series (or at least the first three) stands as one of the greats.

These films could have way more potential if the camera work wasn’t done by 4 year old on a caffeine rush.

Not bad. Though it starts immediately after the showdown in Russia but before contacting Landry in New York and part immediately after said contact.
a great action film...another fine installment to the bourne trilogy....though the patterns kinda felt same...also there was a little too much shaky cam effect....but overall a fine and acceptable movie to enjoy..we get to know more about treadstone and how bourne is related to it...this movie had some awesome sequences..i really liked the part where this movie connected to the previous film...a great watch..
I saw a movie very similar to this recently called The Bourne Supremacy. Even though they are practically the exact same movie, this installment is still quite enjoyable. I literally think they just took the old script, used some white out on the locations and assassin names and went to work making Ultimatum. I did like the interlacing of the closing scenes of Supremacy with this movie and the travelling back to see the other end of the events that preceded Bourne starting to piece together his mysterious past.
This movie has got to be my favorite out of the three. I really enjoyed how well they've blended the first two films with the 3rd one. The only thing I didn't like about the movie was the fact it took Bourne just over half the movie to get to New York. Everything else was just perfect.
S .M .A .R .T_V.I.L.L.A.I.N.!
Another nice Bourne movie. I though Bourne's meeting with Simon Ross (when they tried to loose their trail and avoid being spotted) would be the highlight of this movie but luckily there where even two additional highlights:
1) Bourne and Noah:
"Where are you now?"
"I'm sitting in my office."
"I doubt that."
"Why would you doubt that?"
"If you were in your office right now, we'd be having this conversation face to face."
This never gets boring :)
2) Pam and Noah:
"You better get yourself a good lawyer."
Pam was so badass and Noah's reaction when he realized that she faxed the secret documents was priceless!
It was also nice to see more of Nicky Parsons (although she didn't talk much, even for this movie) and it's so nice that they continue ending the movie with the same song :D
Also: Yay, they have flatscreen monitors now xD
Had they killed him and he got escaped a third time? ;) We can have fun watching as they play cat and mouse.
A very good action movie that never lets up during its nearly two hour running time. The "shaky cam" that gives the Bourne films their gritty look is almost too much due to the constant quick cuts/edits. Everything is moving so fast that its hard to get focused on what is going on. It does add considerable tension to the movie though. Matt Damon really does a nice job of portraying a man on a mission. And Joan Allen plays a welcome friend to Bourne as Agent Landy.
Bereft of ideas and coasting on fumes, The Bourne Ultimatum delivers a stale and mindless action thriller. In this chapter of the series Jason Bourne has another flashback to his Treadstone days and seeks to uncover how it all began. In essence this is just a carbon copy of Supremacy, only not as clever and a lot less interesting. Additionally, the cast isn’t as strong this time and doesn’t have much to work with. The Bourne Ultimatum is an uninspired, trite film that pulls out the same old bag of tricks.
Don’t know if it’s the best of the trilogy, it’s mostly on par with the second one. Meaning: nothing new, but a great conclusion to the overall story. The way they tied the ending of the second movie into this one is so good. What an enjoyable trilogy this is! Amazing!
The sequence with Bourne chasing down Desh across the rooftops is in ( my book) one of the best cinematic pieces ever.
I don't think it deserved 8/10. But how they managed to fit the ending of the second movie into the third one was remarkable.
Apart from the foot chase in Morocco being way too long and the camera work sometimes being too shaky, this movie was excellent.
Don't the government goons know that after two movies now, you can't just send a couple dudes after Bourne. You have roll up in there with a whole squad, and even then, he'll probably still get away.
Seriously though, Ultimatum might be the best movie of the franchise up to this point because we learn more than just bits and pieces of Jason's past as he remembers more and more. The action sequences, especially that one extended fight sequence with the first assassin and the ensuing chase scene were on point. The endless camera cuts, the Shaky McGee cameramen, even in dialogue driven scenes, and the quick-zooms onto buildings all get to be a bit much at times, but it seems like this one had the most satisfying conclusion as Jason shows mercy over vengeance, and two top dogs get taken down. I felt like a great actor like Scott Glenn should have had a larger role, maybe as Noah Vosen rather than the Ezra Kramer, the complicit high ranking official who doesn't have much dialogue except for a couple scenes.
The Bourne Ultimatum is undoubtedly the best movie in the Bourne franchise, and an excellent film overall. It's another great installment of my favorite franchise, delivering everything fans have come to expect - intense action sequences, complex plot twists, and incredible performances from the cast. Matt Damon once again proves why he's the perfect choice for the role of Jason Bourne, and the supporting cast is equally impressive. The film's fast-paced editing and tight direction create a sense of urgency and tension that keeps you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. If you're a fan of the Bourne franchise, or just love action-packed thrillers, The Bourne Ultimatum is a must-see.
The usual shaky camera during the chases and the spy atmosphere. Nothing special to remember after you see it.
Just as the second installment of this trilogy, The Bourne Ultimatum suffers from en excess of shaky cam. This takes away some enjoyment of an otherwise excellent movie. Why directors use this lazy technique is beyond me, but here we are, almost 15 years later, and it's still widely used.
Anyway, The Bourne Ultimatum is certainly worth the watch. Matt Damon does another killer performance, and the story is still strong. This would have been the best in the trilogy if it hadn't been for that pesky shaky cam.

It’s funny how people think of these movies as ‘realistic’.
Do people actually think an American intelligence agency is capable of pulling live footage out of a camera in a train station in London? Within like 5 minutes? Not to forget that this takes place in a pre smartphone era.
I know that paranoia and anxiety were a big part of culture post 9/11, and these movies play into that, but they’re far from being realistic.
I’d say they’re grounded, and it’s got a director at the helm who’s really good at selling the heightened stuff.
Having said that, this is one of the most thrilling and tense films I’ve seen.
Paul Greengrass is a master of building tension through visceral camerawork.
Sure, there’s a lot of handheld and shaky cam, but that style actually works in this film’s favour, because Greengrass knows how to use it without loosing a sense of clarity.
The story is again very solid, it’s got a surprising amount of memorable dialogue, the acting is solid, interesting characters, John Powell’s score is iconic, and there just isn’t a single dull moment.
High octane action filmmaking at its finest.
9/10
I still find it a great movie, in the spy genre, but FUCK the canara work almost made me have to stop. Wonder how I didn't notice last time. The CONSTANT shaking is absolutely horrible.
Now, this time I was tempted to turn off. It's essentially the same movie again with another twist in the story. And it just isn't enough for a third time in a row. This even has sequences carbon copied from part two. Would have been better to make one movie instead of two. Maybe even make one 2 1/2 hour movie instead of three and stretching everthing out to the max.
Plus they implied something happened between Nicky and Jason in the past. Why ? Because there has to be some male/female relationship ? The even made her dye her hair black and cut it short like Marie did in the first. That's lame.
So, overall not that great a trillogy from my point of view.
It is getting better. Other than being best of the series, one of the best of its kind.
1 of the best fight scenes, 1 of the best car chases, this is 1 of the best spy films ever if not the best.
I'd read beforehand that they never intended to make a third film, but when the dollar bills in the studio's eyes grew too large, they had to come up with an excuse of some kind. That's definitely evident in this story, which has its moments but never really shakes the feeling that it's "just another adventure" for Bourne and not an integral part of the overarching primary storyline.
I had trouble getting invested in the hunt for the new government goons, after Supremacy effectively wiped out the last remaining string pullers, and it's never adequately explained what interest the new guys have in capturing / killing / hunting Bourne. Julia Stiles is crammed into the Franka Potente role of the wide-eyed, good looking field liability, but she doesn't have the same kind of connection with Matt Damon that made the first relationship work so well and ultimately her enhanced role feels like a step back for the series.
The action is still good, though, with a rooftop parkour chase through Tangiers being the highlight and another high speed street chase that does its best to mimic the successes of the previous one (even ending in, basically, the exact same manner). Sadly, the number of goddamned hand held shots has flown recklessly over the top. Rather than relegating them to just the action scenes, where they at least make sense, this time around we're getting the shaky treatment everywhere from baggage check at the airport to a sit-down conference in the pentagon. ENOUGH ALREADY.
Having said that, I still enjoyed Ultimatum for what it was. It's a high speed thrill ride, but one that pales in comparison to the first two.
I swear, if I hear them say the asset one more forking time... >_<
How on Earth did they manage to write such lame dialogs!? Sure, the first two movies also had some "Hollywood nonsense spy talk", but in very few scenes. This one is just ridiculous. And it's not like the story is awful or anything, it's on par with the second movie, not brilliant, but not bad either. It's just the awful dialogs.
On the other hand, it's nice to see a movie actually filmed where the action is supposed to be (Madrid, Tangiers...). I've seen too many idiotic location mistakes in other movies (Mission Impossible 2, Day and Knight, or the unforgivable Vantage Point, to name a few).
Well crafted, fast paced and actually exciting, this, with its sturdy performances, good plot and assured direction, is easily the best film of the franchise.
The culmination of a fantastic trilogy of films, this a propulsive action film that rarely lets up. Dropping the audience into the moments immediately after the conclusion of the last film, it relies on audience awareness of the story to date to truly embrace the characters, as it rarely pauses for breath. It is as frenetic as the last entry, but no less gripping for it. With Bourne by now an unstoppable force of nature, the filmmakers ratchet up the tension in each act by giving Bourne someone or something to protect before a final sequence in New York that is as much about misdirection as it is about Bourne fighting off an increasing number of obstacles. The filmmakers also wisely choose to end the film (and the series to this point) on a character moment rather than an action sequence as Bourne finally confronts his past. It may stand on the shoulders of the previous films, but it is a fine conclusion to the main arc.
J'adore la franchise bourne, surtout quand c'est Matt Damon qui y joue
Great movie. I'm not sure I caught this first time around but watching this back to back with Supremacy I realize this overlaps with that one. Pretty cool and a damn good story device for a sequel. They're also pulling it in Legacy which I'm now watching but stay tuned for that review if it worked. Definitely stoked for this August! (Update: Should not have been stoked)
Image 4.5/5 and Sound 4.5/5. Une of the best film of action by direcction, actiones scenes and fill editing, the thre oscars well deserved
This franchise just keeps on keeping on. They really just can't help but stay in the same exact same style and quality. I'd almost say it is a flaw, that each film feels so similar. But when they all feel so similarly fantastic, I don't really want to knock it down at all. Over 30 or 40 years, if they kept doing the same style every time then maybe it would be a flaw. But a trilogy like this is great.
I have no intention on watching the Legacy one. I've just heard so much mediocrity about it. I act like it isn't in existence.
three Oscars for Film Editing, Sound Mixing, Sound Editing deserved.
The sensational conclusion of the Bourne trilogy!
3rd and (imho) final installment of the Bourne trilogy. It has the same pace and action oriented directing style as the 2nd part of the movie series. It couldn't keep up with the 2nd one in it's originality and outstanding action scenes, but that's no shame. Nonetheless a great piece of work, with some really nice development, and of course the final closure.

Incredibly boring and disappointing movie. Waaaaay too long action scenes we saw a million times in other movies and the dialogue could have been written by 5-year-olds
